  1. I understand that an internal email went out today advising that Capt Tommy has left the company. Funny, though, when I heard about it, I thought the person had made a mistake and really meant his father who has been rumored as close to retirement. But, no, it is indeed Tommy.

  2. Beth, I got this info from post #1995 on the old CD thread:

Hi I had send ken rush a message on Facebook asking if he gonna take out the quantum his replied was yes he wil be on her until jan 2015 and then he will give the ship over to the other cd.i am hoping Richard spacey will take over

Ooops. That post was while I was on AL and I'm still skimming what I missed while away.

But, that doesn't change what Ken said. I suspect he's not yet ready to go public completely.

Now, just to add to the speculation. If he does take QN out and stays on until mid Jan, that leaves enough time for a vacation and then to head back to Germany for Anthem!

AL Allure --(Concierge)-Fernando Ugalde Nadal(till Sept '13) and Carlos Guiza

OA Oasis (Concierge) Allan Fajardo(till 06/22/13) and Israel Sanchez(as of 04/27/13)

OK. Now I'm confused. I got off Allure this morning. Didn't pay enough attention to full names, but I'm quite sure the concierges were Fernando and Allan.

I only go by what people tell me...Last I heard Allan and Israel were on the OA.......

Is there another Allan that could be on the AL??You wouldn't happen to have any paperwork with that info, would you??

I guess I've been cruising too much and it's all blending together. But that is not going to stop me!!!!

Sorry for adding confusion to this great thread. It was Rahim on AL.:o

  5. Forgive me because I'm sure this has been asked a zillion times - how long is the average rotation for a master of a vessel? We are boarding Allure on Sunday and I can't remember if it is 8 weeks, 10 weeks, etc. We're on the cusp of a changing of the guard, so to speak, and was just curious who our captain will be.

    Thanks!!

    Stephie

Do you know when Captain Tommy and Johnny switch on Allure? We are sailing in a week an a half and with their usual schedules it should be soon I think? Doesn't matter either way, both great captains, but curious. Thanks.

Oops, didn't see Foffie just asked a similar question, thought I went to the end. BTW, for Allure I believe the schedule is 11 weeks, but not positive.

I got off Allure this morning. Capt Tommy was also leaving today, with Capt Johnny coming onboard.

  6. see post 1265. Not sure if Capt Dahlgren will be back in June, if he is then you'll have Capt Patrik Dahlgren.

The last I heard was that he'll be back on June 29. I've been out of touch (on VI from April 17th until this morning and on NV tomorrow). I'll call him to confirm when I get home next week.

  7. I'm pretty sure the MDR wasn't open that day for breakfast. I know it was announced that you couldn't even get room service that morning.

The only time I was aware of room service being available on the last day was on the turn around day of a back to back. Even then, it was only available for those who were b2b, so it was actually published as not available. I've been on a bunch of b2bs, and was only offered room service once.

  8. the dining room wasn't open disembarkation day. They had pastries coffee/tea/water in the theater where C&A members can wait

With all due respect, I have to disagree. I was on OA exactly a month after you and the MDR was definitely open the last morning.

Do you still have the "As You Depart" flyer? On the front side, usually the first paragraph lists the times the various venues are open for breakfast. The MDR is always listed - sometimes at hours earlier than usual, sometimes on a different deck (on ships that have multi-level dining rooms), but it's always listed and always shown in the same area as the other venues.

Perhaps you are more attuned to other venues or you have breakfast before the MDR opens on the last day.

I drive home, so I'm not in a rush to get off the ship. As a result, I have never not had breakfast in the MDR the final morning.

You may be right, but that's so different from my experience on many, many Royal cruises. Of course, YMMV.

  9. I was just being funny....he's an RCCL man, he is retired but will answer the call if a master has an emergency at home and needs to leave, Capt Bill will be available to fill in until the master either gets back or rotation occurs and the relief captain signs on.

And yet, if you read an article from today's USA Today Travel email, it would seem to be an ideal fit for him to help straighten out Carnival. I'm not trying to be funny.

  10. Beth, I hope you get a response from your comment card and I

hope you let us know what they say.

If I do, I will, but I'm not holding my breath.

    See you soon.

    ???

    Anita

    Beth,

You also have our vote. And, yes, the handwriting is very clearly written on the wall.

We also noticed Willy's indifference to D+ and P on Freedom. It was disturbing.

Finally, the good news in the last post is that you and Anita are sailing again together. Do you know something I don't know? Wish we were there! Have fun!

    Rick and Deirdra

    Thanks for the support.:D

  11. Beth, that is terrible treatment. You are Pinnacle and in a Grand Suite. I would certainly elevate this to Adam Goldstein's office.:)

Like I mentioned before,I got that very same attitude(as Beth) with Willy on the FR.he very clearly let us know DP was not worthy of his time....he was only interested in the suite guests......

I second the idea of emailing someone like Adam about this.......I did....

Ladies, I generally agree with this suggestion, but, this time I'm handling it differently. As much as I don't like to be negative on my comments survey, I did mention this situation. Rather than say "... was acting inappropriately..." I merely asked why he said what he said and acted the way he did.

Thanks for the vote of confidence!

  12. The writing on the wall is that the CL will be for "Gold" card holders and the DL will be for everyone else.

And, with no disrespect to Beth, but it wasn't her prediction.:)

perhaps Beth's treatment is indication that once all the ships have a CL, all including Pinnacles, will be kicked out of the CL. Then the CL will be for suite guests only and the Diamond Lounge for all other D/D+/P members. Just as Beth predicted long ago, she's a very smart cookie!

    Patti and Karen,

You both got me a little curious, so I did a little digging. It's sometimes hard to remember what was said publicly and privately. I found 3 posts on this subject:

My post #84 July 3, 2012 (Diamonds in December thread)

I agree that the room is nicer. However, I've been convinced all along that they are setting us up for a "use it or lose it" scenario. As part of the coming restriction of CL to Pinnacle and Concierge Suites, they will say we didn't use it when we had the chance, so it's no big deal if they take it away from us.

Another part of the handwriting on the wall is the new email addresses for the new concierges. On FR class, the email is to Concierge and DiamondConcierge. On the older ships that have been revitalized (such as GR and SP) the email goes to SuiteConcierge and DiamondConcierge.

    Hello???????

My post #439 April 18, 2012 (Concierge thread)

    Patti,

I think this is just some more of the handwriting on the wall. I am convinced that when all the ships (or maybe even most of them) have been revitalized and have 2 lounges, the current "CL" will become a Suite Lounge with admission only by gold card.

Setting up a new email with the Suite designation puts one little thing in place for the future.

    JMHO. Time will tell.

    My post #2260 Feb 24, 2012 (old D/D+ thread)

    JMHO, but...

I believe they will continue to allow kids into CL only. After all, Adam's excuse was that the suite people wanted it.

That may make DL more attractive to some. I would agree that, given the choice of kids in one lounge and not in the other, I would normally prefer the one without them. (No flames, please, I just don't think they belong in any drinking environment.)

However, I also believe that they will ban D+ from CL when all the are fitted with DLs.

In the meantime, I believe they are monitoring the D+ usage of the existing DLs. I think they will say we're happy with the DL, so there's no need for us to go to the CL.

    USE IT OR LOSE IT!!!!

    Again, JMHO.

Soapbox off. No disrespect intended here either, just a treasure hunt!

  13. Are you talking about the Liberty of the Seas? If so, I agree with you wholeheartedly. We have sailed her 4 times previously, twice with Mario as Concierge and twice with Oana and both were wonderful. We are Diamond Plus and also sometimes sail in suites, sometimes in balconies. This past month happened to be in a balcony. The CL was never crowded but the Concierge never got up from his desk and mingled with the guests. We were lucky if he even said hello as we walked in the door. He didn't seem to want to have any interaction with the D+ members. I actually heard him refer one D+ member to the Diamond concierge for assistance. He was only handling the suite guests.

Beth I agree with you about both LB and ID. In each case the Concierge really wasn't interested in anyone other than the suite guests, and even then didn't put himself out - we were in the Presidential suite on ID and we felt like we were still a burden to him.

Oana and Columella are gems and we preferred to be there anyway.

I'm glad you both agree with me, despite your having had a somewhat negative experience. It's nice to know I'm not alone. Thanks.

  14. I am wondering what if any effect the new tipping policy will have on the concierge. We just did a B2B, with the first week in a JS and the second in a GS. The new policy hit the second week so we did not get a form to add tips. As far as I can tell, the concierge does not inter into the breakdown of tips that are auto. At least the explanation page in our suite did not list him. We tipped him in cash both times, but many of the other suite guests never came to the lounge. Anyone have a better idea how all this will work? We even talked to Guest Services regards his tip and didn't really get a good answer. Do you suppose that the attitude being reported has anything to do with this?

I don't think it has anything to do with the new tipping policy, unless it made the negative treatment more so. My first experience of this nature was on ID in December.

  15. I was on ID in December and just on LB this weekend. I found the attitude of both "regular" Concierges rather disturbing.

A few times on ID I clearly heard the Concierge tell a Pinnacle member that he was not his/her Concierge. He/she should work with the Diamond Concierge. I also heard the same comments made to 3 different D+ members.

I booked LB 10 days in advance. A week later I discovered that I had been moved from a balcony to a GS. Needless to say my amenties were not delivered. Not surprising. I handled that myself.

Despite the broadcast voicemail telling me about it, I did not get the binder of Suite information. When I asked the Concierge, he said I had to see the Diamond Concierge. Huh?? I asked why, since I'm Pinnacle and I was in a real suite. He relented and said he would send me one.

This was a 4 night cruise, Thursday to Monday. The binder was delivered on Saturday afternoon. It did not have any of the menus and the Sunday menu was neither delivered Saturday night nor with the Sunday morning service.

This Concierge was not overworked, at least not due to people. The lounge was never crowded. As a matter of fact I heard that there were 35 D+ (someone said maybe it was 35 cabins of D+, making it approx 70 D+ people) and only 2 Pinnacles.

Yet he stayed at his desk most of the time. When he worked the room, he did not seem to say more than "hello" to people that I knew (meaning D+) but spent quite a bit of time with those I didn't know (probably suite guests).

I felt that the attitude and treatment were so out of the ordinary that I had to put some mention of it in my comments. Rather than stating that so-and-so has a lousy attitude, I merely asked why he told me I should deal with the Diamond Concierge. Now I wish I had mentioned it on ID, but that wouldn't have been kosher because it was not said to me directly at that time. This time it was.

    Has anybody else seen this?

  16. Capt Stig was scheduled to leave JW today. Didn't see him because disembarkation was running late and I was worried about catching my flight home.

He was somewhat invisible on the 8/19 Baltics cruise, but he was very visible and communicative on the crossing with the problems we encountered.

First, we had the mishap entering the Faroe Islands, where both the ship and a security officer were injured. The crew member was first hospitalized in Klasvik, then flown to Denmark, and has since gone home. The ship was repaired in Iceland.

Then we had to skip St Johns NFLD and change course to avoid the storm(s).

Finally, we then changed course again, headed north towards Halifax instead of continuing almost due west we were doing, and another crew member was med-evac'ed yesterday.

It took less than 7 minutes from the time the rescue boat came alongside until they left with the crew member. Before and after that we were going at maximum speed - over 23 knots.

I'm sure Capt Stig is very happy to be on vacation now!

  17. There is a BIG gap between the Jewel and the Rhapsody so hopefully the Adventure will be in that gap.

RH gets back to Vancouver from Australia (where the menu is somewhat different) on May 16. It's easier to provision and monitor in North America.

My guess is that most of the other ships will change during that big time gap, on a geographic basis. After finishing the European seasons, VI goes to FLL in Oct, LB in Nov, ID in Dec, etc. That looks like a very logical roll out schedule to me.
