  1. Yes as long as it's before the 90 days when final payment is due. After that you can upgrade to a better room if it's available but not reduce the price. One final caveat is you have to book in the US. Different rules for UK cruisers.

Thanks, didn't know if WOW sales were for new bookings only

  2. No, you're missing the whole point, there won't BE any formal nights in the MDR in this scenario. This would save on food costs. It may even drive more people to specialty dining, increasing revenue.

You can dress up 1, 2, 7 nights if you wish. But there would be one designated Royal Night with meet the Captain / Photos, maybe some live music and dancing on Promenade, Atrium, or maybe an evening champagne toast on the exterior decks. I envision a string of themed activities, totally optional, participate or not, and this way no one gets rubbed the wrong way by what's going on at dinner, because there is no formal dinner and no pretense of one.

IMO, Royal, and other lines, gave up "formal" years ago along with the food, service, special touches and atmosphere. The MDR used to be the best food and service, and no longer is, and I think anyone arguing otherwise is really grasping at straws. So Royal may as well stop being "half pregnant" and just get on with the MDR being a nice dining experience, but it is not fine dining. They don't need strict adherence at dinner because they have refused for years to provide a special dinner atmosphere or food. So move the dress to the 9's out of the MDR and to other venues where they could use it to generate more revenue (champagne sales, photo sales, etc.)

100% agree. Formal nights disappeared years ago. Food quality down and people dressing much more casually. Nothing wrong with this but some posters just won't acknowledge the obvious facts

  3. Hello Ray! Right now, our plans at St. Maarten are tentative. I realize that with five ships in port, it'll be crowded pretty much anywhere we go, especially the beaches. It'll make us appreciate our week at Hilton Head when we go there later this year.

Five ships are not unusual. We had 6 in port last month and when we got to Orient about 10:00, it was probably 15-20% full, much higher by noon. Never really hits full capacity

  4. Cruising on Liberty in a few weeks and am trying to plan my packing. We are eating the first night in the Steakhouse and the rest in the MDR. I see that MDR is cruise casual which includes "long dress shorts" in the definition. Is it common for folks to wear nice shorts with a nice polo/golf shirt in the MDR? If so, what type of shoes can men/boys wear?

Also, what is proper dress attire in the Steakhouse?

The dress code on Carnival is not complicated and really doesn't warrant a long thread several times per week. Martini Mom and Beachbum gave very good responses; just use some common sense and you will be fine.

  5. Is it for Oasis-class only? Test phase?

Smart of them to allow this pre-cruise. A lot of people use OBC to offset gratuity. If they use OBC pre-cruise to buy things that have a lower value than 1:1 and pay out of pocket things that directly pay into a bucket, such as gratuity, the cruise line is ahead.

    Check your logic???
