  1. We took the "behind the scenes" tour on the Jewel this time, and during that tour we passed a chart in the galley area that broke down the passengers by age range. I asked about the chart, and our guide said that NCL alters its food buying for each cruise based on the age of the passengers. While the entertainment clearly doesn't shift from cruise-to-cruise on a weekly basis, it's possible the age ranges may influence the eras of music the entertainers choose to play. I can't remember the exact numbers, but the age ranges for the Panama Canal cruise we were on was something like:

    Under 18: 50

    Under 21: 75

    22-59: 350

    60+: 1700

That could help explain all the 50s/60s music on board!

Makes sense. More cruise lines should do the same.

  2. I disagree with the part that I underlined. I feel that you should choose what you want to see/do first & then choose the itinerary/cruise line that fits it.

That way you won't come back here asking why you can't do the small boat Tracy Arm excursion on your cruise, as one example.

Also, not all cruise lines go to Glacier Bay or Sitka.

Agree, the cruise line is less important than seeing what you want in Alaska. A year ago we chose to go into the Yukon to see the gold rush history in Dawson City. It was a great choice but HAL was the only cruise line to offer a flight into Dawson. Don't like HAL as a cruise line but it turned to be a great experience. The ship really didn't matter.

  3. I have flown in the day before a cruise but in an effort to save money, we will be flying down the same day. Our flight lands at 9am in Fort Lauderdale and we will need to get to port of Miami. When you land so early, what do you typically do? Just go to the port and wait??

Don't understand your concern. If you land on time, it will be 9:30 by the time you get luggage . By the time you wait for your transportation and drive to Miami, best case is a 10:30, probably 11:00 arrival. What is your concern, waiting maybe 30 minutes?

  4. Sometimes it feels crowded (shopping, shows, elevators, peak WJ breakfast, pool deck on a sunny sea day) and sometimes not. If you make all your dining and show reservations before you board, it helps a lot.

I think that a 5 day Anthem cruise in the summer is the most crowded. The longer cruises let people spread out and they are not so desperate to do everything in a short time.

Of course summer cruises are more crowded. There can be an extra 1000 kids on the ship vs. cruises during the school year.

  5. i am having serious indecisive issues with this. I have finally narrowed down to celb silhouette or harmony. on silhouette we can do aqua class balcony. on harmony a superior reg balcony. silhouette would be april 16 sailing or harmony april 22.

    :o:eek::rolleyes:

You seem very indecisive, just pick one, both will be fun

  6. For all those interested just returned from the Freedom of the Seas and found out our credit card number was STOLEN!. The ONLY place this card was used was in Tanzanite International Grand Cayman. No other time was this card used. All our on board purchases were with the R.C. card. T.I. was a "trusted vendor" by RCL according to the on board "expert" Li. :eek:Ha! so much for "trusted". RCL should really examine with whom it deals in the future and if a percentage is worth the future distrust of this family on anything RCL sponsors on future cruises.

As far as the 6 day Western cruise it was "hmmmmp" and if you have any questions just ask.

You are jumping to a conclusion which may not true. Try googling how card numbers are stolen.

  7. Seriously, I think it is stupid. Just give me my card when I check in. Now the waiters, etc have to carry around my SetSail pass to get me a drink. Another stupid idea by Royal. I want my SeaPass card when I get checked in. Guess we will see how it works when we do Harmony in Dec

Why not pick something important to get upset about.

  8. We were in Alaska from 8/24-9/6 in 2015. Layers of course, jeans, and a fairly warm jacket; many days were cold and damp. Packing is not as difficult as some try to make it, you don't need special clothes. Also, in early Sept. the stores run very good sales before the season ends. You can always buy an extra sweatshirt or mid weight jacket

  9. :cool:i think cruise lines should offer new / different itineraries to Caribbean for winter vacations ,I would love more Southern Caribbean islands .ABC islands or others .I.m tired of same old same old eastern western routes ...done those many times ...Its time for a change ...plus longer cruises than 1 week ...12-14 days is best

Celebrity offers some very nice 10-14 day cruises, many going to Aruba and Cura?ao.

  10. I begrudge having to pay full price for a meal that essentially is already paid for in the price of my cruise. I would be more tempted it if cost an extra £5 or £10 as an addition to top up the price.

Of course, if it were cheaper many would be more interested.
