  1. Look at the excursions offered by the ship to St. John.

Good advice. We usually do tours on our own but the RCCL tour (actually just a boat ride) to St. Johns is inexpensive, convenient, and walking around St. Johns is a fun day.. Make sure to catch lunch at a beachside restaurant.

  2. We are booked through Celebrity on a excursion to St. John. When they docked at Havensight it was my understanding that they departed right by the port. Now that they are docking at Crown Bay where is the boat to St. John for their excursions leaving from?

    Al

Don't know but a good question. RCCL did depart to St. Johns from close to the Havensight pier; about a 10 minute walk.

  3. I agree that Carnival won't guarantee it won't happen to another. That's just impossible. And as another poster noted, this complaint has been seen on the boards before - its rare, but it still happens.

Contact JH from FB - I am confident he will issue an apology. Who knows if they would offer anything else.

And chalk this up to a case of the first time - shame on him...but a second time? Shame on me...

Isn't JH just another Cruise Director? If so, why would you even contact him and what would his apology even mean?

  4. We have tours in our other ports but have decided to take it easy and just wander around St. Thomas. We will walk into town and have mapped out a self-guided walking tour that goes to some places we want to see. Once we are done, we would like to find a place, perhaps with a nice view, and have a drink or two and some appetizers and people watch. Any suggestions? We are looking for really good prices.

Not sure about cheap drinks, but the Greenhouse in town is a nice place.

  5. We recently (Oct. 2016) took their St. John on your own shore excursion. The timing and cost were similar to us doing the same trip on our own. Once on St. John we hiked to Honeymoon Beach for the day. The boat ride was bumpy and I was glad I took Dramamine. Enjoy your cruise.

Agree, good way to see St. Johns, even just to walk around Cruz Bay and have lunch

  6. Email the owner Junior and tell him what happened...that woman can be a bit of a con artist...she used to rip off people much worse then before (i.e. claim they never paid their deposit!). I actually emailed Junior about my concerns before I arrived so things went smoothly for us.

Junior could refund your $5. Also post this on their F***B*** page.

Maybe Junior should find another employee.

  7. DH and I have never paid for any specialty restaurant on any of the cruises we have taken. We are happy with the food offered in the included eateries, but sometimes I do wonder if we are missing out.

DH, despite willingly paying for a cruise is of the mind that 'why pay any extra when I don't have to'.

So, what are we missing? Is it worth the extra? And how would you convince DH that it's worth trying?

We will be on the Breakaway. BTW we don't do seafood apart from fish. (you know what I mean I hope).

Why don't you just try one. The cost is insignificant compared to the cruise cost. And yes, the food quality is better than the MDR.

  8. I would say that they will have to drink a Pepsi product  or or water or some other beverage. I can't believe this is a real topic of discussion. Are they that really dependent on having to have a Coke every day? Man that must be a bigger addiction than cigarettes! lol

Is anyone forcing you to read or respond to this issue. If you don't like it, move on

  9. Just goes to show, Chops is very hit or miss. For $35/pp though, it should be more hit.

Everything I've been hearing and reading about the internet connection has been disappointing. For this so called upgrade in the system, it should be just like Oasis Class and it isn't. Oh well, the recent sale made it worth buying... email, news and weather is all I really want... the stream was bonus.

Thanks for the info you've provided. [emoji106]

You are 100% correct on Chops. The service and food are far too inconsistent. Inconsistency is an indication of weak management in the food industry. Please, I don't need to know if you had a good experience; that is not the issue

  10. We have a cruise booked with NCL for the end of 2017, and we want to pay for it over time.

On another cruise line, they had an unpublicized policy that you could mail in checks to pay for the cruise but nothing else. I noticed the NCL has an address for travel agents to mail in checks. I wonder what would happen if a passenger used that address to mail in checks?

That way, we could set up an automatic payment with the bank, and we wouldn't have to think about it.

Has anyone else had experiences with this? Both good and bad.

    Thanks!

Why??? You're complicating a very simple process.

  11. Greetings cruisers, My husband and I will be dipping our toes into cruising again after many years away. Husband always loved cruising, me.. not so much but I'm game to try it again. Last cruise was probably early 80's and I believe it was Admiral cruise line we traveled.

I know the Carnival Triumph is an older ship but we aren't really into all the bells and whistles, so not really concerned about it.

Likewise, it's been maybe 15 years since we've been to Cozumel, looking forward to looking around to see what's changed.

Bet you were surprised by how cheap cruising has become. Hope you have a great time but remember, you didn't pay for the luxury of the 1980's.

  12. I know platinum guests can go to guest services and be escorted down to the tender boat and skip the tender ticket process. My question is do platinum guests get escorted to gangway on non tender islands?

The reason I ask is on our last cruise another platinum guest saw us waiting in line on the stairs (like we always do) and told us to follow them to guest services. We politely declined and off they went. We didn't see them again so I didn't get the chance to ask them about this. I have never heard of this on non tender islands. Has anybody else heard of this?

It's not that difficult to walk off the ship by yourself. Next thing you'll be asking for is an escort to the restroom

  13. My first cruise for our family is coming get up...Thanksgiving week on the Miracle, and I'm trying to budget and plan for expenses that I may not be aware of (or even optional, but decide I want when I'm on the ship). I've prepaid tips already. Here are some of the items I'm thinking...what am I missing?

Hotel w/cruise park n stay for the night before

    Porter tip/luggage $10- $20

Case of water for room $5

    Steakhouse for 1 night - $100

Room service if we ever want to order

Drinks (still deciding whether to Cheers or not)

    Bubbles package for the kids

Off shore excursions (if we decide)

Casino...thinking $100 per day at most...we go to Vegas frequently so casino not a priority

Bingo - how much is bingo usually? Do I bring my own dauber?

Arcade for kids - is the arcade free, or cost typical to a usual arcade?

Any unexpected expenses with the kids programs?

Souvenir for kids - $20 each

What other potential expenses? I'm expecting a few "little" expenses, which I know will add up, but I have no idea what they would be...so I'm trying to plan for those. Depending on the added expenses, I may be at the point of choosing between Cheers and an excursion - La Caletas or Rhythm of the Night...not sure if I can swing both.

What other items were you charged for or spent money on...and how much were they?

We don't budget to that detail. We estimate what we think we need in 5 minutes and bring an extra $500.

  14. I try and find a middle ground. I don't pig out or eat just because it's all included but if let's say, I see two appetizers on the menu I like or want to try, I do.

I also don't eat bread, to me it's just a "filler". I want to enjoy the food, not the bread.

However, I won't eat something I don't love, I leave it and save those calories for something I really love.

I also walk a lot and take stairs so it also kind of balances out.:D

Great answer, we try to do the same. Obviously many cruisers don't
