In a few years the old hands will be singing the praises of the old ships Britannia, Iona and Azura......I'll stick to the small ships like Britannia.  I'm not going on the magamonsters. 15,000 passengers....no thanks.

Actually old chap the old hands will still be comparing p&o to other cruise line, I really miss the cheese wheels and the choco on the pillow

I don't think folk have identified this as a problem,  just that on fred the staff carry you to your table in a sedan chair whilst a butler cleans your shoes. Good old Fred.

Now that's what I call service

You mean you have never had a waiter struggle to know where the table is?  Or had the host send you to a table where they were halfway through their meal?

No never they have all been professional even the young lad who was looking after us who struggled with the order, we got our food and drinks so we was happy.

Same on our Iona cruise last year,,problem was those who now show you to the table are commandeered from the cabin steward team even when they had a map they was getting lost.

They don’t even dress them like restaurant staff, they are the ones in the scruffy grey polo shirts.

Standards must have been very poor on Iona, we was on Arvia and not once did we have a problem getting to our table and have not read it anywhere else there have been problems

P&O do now attempt to take you to the table, but quite often the waiter/stewards don't know where the table is!!😯

No idea which ship you was on, they give your waiter a ticket which tells them the table you have been given and they take you straight to it, that is the system they have used on every cruise ship we have been on.

  6. I wasn't going to bother replying to this thread but after reading how this cruise line or that cruise line is far superior to p&o, I really would have thought they would have abandoned P&O by now, why pay to go on a cruise who you believe is the pontins of the ocean waves.

  7. The best thing any cruise line should do is refuse to accept debit cards at point of booking, if the person still insists on using one they must accept the consequences, before people say some people cannot get credit cards, there are multiple companies that supply them to those with poor credit issues, and I know the interest rate is higher but you would not be using it for general expenses.

  8. I still find it interesting to see P&O compared to other cruise lines, you can only really compare them if going on similar itineraries, then you make the choice is it worth paying more to have turn down service and seeing more items on the menu which you probably wouldn't choose anyway.

Bear in mind that P&O are part of Carnival, and Princess, Holland America and Carnival itself, as well as Costa and AIDA, all do Med fly cruises, so adding extra P&O med fly cruises would simply increase competition and put pressure on prices.

Plus P&O as not got the largest fleet in the group so they try to cover all basses

Why is it amusing? We all have choice to go wherever we want, when we want. Do people only ever shop in one supermarket? Only ever get petrol from one station? It is called choice and it is great we all have so much choice. It is 2024 and gone are the days of remaining loyal to one cruise company. I will continue to pick the ship and itinerary and company that suits me for where I want to explore and sometimes it will still be P&O.

Your reply to my post is baffling but those who liked your comment obviously didn’t read my post, at no point did I question anyone’s choice to sail with whoever they chose to it’s your money to do with what you wish, so please reread my post.

  11. I always find it amusing how people moan about p&o and still sail with them, but p&o must be doing something right for the amount of people still sailing with them, but each to there own.

It always strikes me as a damned cheek that vegans moan & whinge about the food offerings available to suit their lifestyle choice. My lifestyle choice would be to cosy up with Kylie Minogue but I am yet to find her waiting in my cabin.

Actually she passed me in the corridor and said she gave up waiting for you in your cabin

    Thanks.

Hope you had a good holiday.
Must feel ‘a bit weird’ berthing up at Southampton today, only to be allowed off tomorrow when it moves to it’s usual berth?

Looking at your sail history, appears you last docked on the 26th March what with not being able to dock at Ponta Delgado. How has everyone got on being at sea for 8-9 days?

We love the sea days hence why we mostly do TA’s, so the 8-9 days would be great for us.

But did you book on day one anything else is not early. I have still not had my price I paid on day one beaten for any cruise, up to 5 per year. It got close just after COVID but it is now back to pre 2020 conditions.

Same here we booked our Christmas cruise whilst onboard ship, the price is yet to be beaten

Am going to say this and duck for cover but if people are really struggling I find it odd that they spend thousands on a cruise. What exactly does struggling mean? It should mean having what you can afford and not what you want but in today's world I don't think it does.

I want to go on a Celebrity Edge cruise again but we can't afford the prices they are charging at the moment. Does this mean that Celebrity need to dumb down their offer for me? Sadly no .. we have to save up and see if our circumstances change.

I struggle to pay for cruises, not because I cannot afford it, I just don't like spending money.

Guys... you know that you are allowed to eat a vegan mean even if you aren't vegan right?

There certainly has been a bit of gradual erosion to the experience and a move downmarket as P&O and others try to not only replace the 'traditional' cruise market who are dying but grow as well. In order to survive/thrive they need to appeal to younger solos/couples/families and many people are really struggling financially.

As time goes on there may be a greater and greater divide between 'mass' and 'upmarket' lines.

I am vegan, I will never hurt a vegetable
