  1. I just got off a 7 day voyage on the splendor. We had a great time (minus me having stomach issues most the time, not the ships fault). Our ports of call were Grand Turk, St. Maarten and San Juan with 3 sea days. I was with my wife, 7 month old son and my mom.

Just a few points. We did not go to any production shows and we tried to see most of the comedy shows. We had early time dining. We went to the dr. Seuss at sea brunch. Ship is Still on old menus. New wifi options are available but not the funhub. We had adjoining OV rooms 2293 and 2297 which were great rooms.

Regarding the shows, we were last on a carnival cruise during the summer of 2013 and unfortunately the production shows have not changed at all nor the mini shows in the dining room. That's why we didn't go. I just remembered we did go to a ventriloquist that was funny.

Most things were good no issues. Food was good, comedy was great as always, the decor wasn't that bad, ship was spotless, I hardly noticed wear and tear unless you really look. Can't think of anything else, so please ask away.

One very negative was our cruise director Kevin Donahue ( I think that's his last name) he was nowhere to be seen or heard other than during his scheduled talks or hosting events, and even then didn't seem into it. His announcements were very lacking and non energetic. I just don't think he is ready to be a CD.

  2. We are arriving in FLL 2 days ahead of our cruise and plane to spend some time at Sawgrass Mills, but would also like to see some of Miami and the surrounding area. Are there any must-sees within a reasonable drive of Pembroke Pines? Would it be worth the drive to South Beach for a few hours? Are there any other cool/safe destinations for a scenic drive? We'll have our 7 year old with us and need to keep his enjoyment in mind too. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Not much to do in Pembroke other than shopping. I agree with the above that you can go east to A1A and just drive that down to south beach, its a nice leisurely drive down the coast.

You can also jump onto the turnpike south and go on the Tamiami trail and drive through the everglades.

  3. Has anyone recently used Uber or Lyft to go from an area Fort Lauderdale hotel such as the Embassy Suites to the Port of Miami for a cruise? Has anyone used it for a return trip from POM to FLL when they returned?

I'd like to know as well. It seams that Lyft Plus is a lot cheaper than uberXL for this route. anyone have experience with Lyft? is there a code?

    Thanks

  4. I just booked a cove balcony on the Dream have I chosen wisely??

    Thanks for your Input!!

    YES, YES, YES, and YES:D:D:D

It was the best balcony we've had. We loved it on our Western Caribbean cruise.

  5. Probably, but they'd have to refund everyone else on the bottomless bubbles program because the ship hit bottom filling your bubba mugs. :D:D:rolleyes::p

LOL, ya probably, those things are huge. But they're great for us folks that dont want to move from that perfect beach location....

  6. Looking for info on the The Sheraton Old San Juan. We have a room booked there in May 2016 for a Cruise departure the next day

It appears to be literally at the end of the Cruise docks in San Juan. We booked it thinking surely it is possible to walk from the Hotel to the Ship and Embarkation, correct? Not really concerned with luxury just as long as it's clean.

    Anyone?

Stayed here a few years back before a Carnival cruise. It was great!!! location is literally minutes from the dock. ADVICE.....check out on the TV before leaving the room and just drop the key off in the box, it is usually packed in the lobby the morning of a cruise.

  7. I'm definitely going to call and ask about that then. I just assumed it would be a pack and play and I'm thinking her issue with it is that she so used to sleeping in her crib now that she want able to sleep without the mattress.

  8. Are any other southern Ontario residents finding it difficult to get reasonable fares on flights to FLL or any nearby airport for this coming March??

Leaving the dollar exchange aside (and that's hard to do!!) and forgetting about leaving from Toronto (YYZ) for which you have to take out a second mortgage, I'm usually able to find reasonable rates out of Buffalo or Detroit via Delta or JetBlue. Not this year!

Perish the thought I have to consider Spirit Airlines (which I took one year and vowed never to fly again) but their schedules are horrible and fees for baggage when you have 4 travelers makes it not worth it.

Has any southern Ontario cruiser found any good flight deals to Florida this March?

Are you talking about march break? I always have found Detroit the best prices. We took spirit last year and it wasn't so bad. But we ended up saving lots of money over taking Delta (which is what we have always taken in the past). Just watch out for the luggage weights. They are 40lbs i believe not 50. we found that out the hard way on the way back. and of course you need to pay for your carry-on but we managed without.

Another option you can check, is out of Rochester, NY. we have taken that route lots of times and its closer than DTW. There are direct flights i believe on Alegiant Airlines.

Try also Spirit from niagara int'l. Its a late flight, but cheap. We have never taken it though.
