  1. I am booked for March 7th - looking for info on a reasonably priced, clean hotel in old san juan...any ideas? tx!

We used hotwire and got the Sheraton for about $120 US, plus there was the %14 tax which added up to about $9.

Great location, and great room. Only a 5 min walk to the pier.

  2. torontomale26, I apologize to everyone, I know it's the victory thread, but since you recently went on Silvermoon...We are sailing on Victory March 14, and have booked the 24 person as 12 person cruise was full. I have 2 questions if you please answer, I would really appreciate it! Which cruise did you do with them and did you have time after the cruise to wander around the port? We are on the cancellation list for the 12 just in case, but I really feel either will be great. Thanks in advance!

Thanks so much to everyone who contributes! You have helped us plan & I know this will be a great trip because of all of your input!! :)

We were on the 24 person, about 20 people came. You do not notice the amount of people at all, its a big enough catameran. We had about 1 1/2 hrs to explore the port area before needing to be on the ship.

This is a great tour, and you will love it. The staff and owner are great, and the food was pretty good too.

  3. Favourite island is tough.

St Thomas - Beach, shopping. on our own. Beautiful island.

We swam with the turtles in Barbados - Great time! Totaly recommend it - Ocean Adventures, Silver moon cruises.

Dominica we took a tour with Reyno- Pretty good tour.

St. Lucia - Toured with Cosol - awsome tour, and beautiful island.

  4. I just wanted to make a post about the customs inspection in SJ. I know there hasent been anyone asking about it lately, but incase someone was interested.

It SEEMS that they have tweeked the disembarkation process to be more smooth. They no longer have the long line ups to disembark on those "full custum" inspection days.

Thats what i gathered from our sailing Dec 20-27. Karl (the cruise director) was informing everyone that as of the last couple months they have come to some sort of agreement with customs? and they now use 2 seperate gangways for disembarkation. Non US citizens take one and US citizens take another.

Anyone else that was on any recent sailing, can you confirm? or did I hear it incorrectly. Was this always the process?

We are NON US citizens and it took no more than 10 minutes from our number being called to picking up our luggage.

  5. Yes, there are two scans in San Juan. The first is for United States Agriculture Dept (USDA) making sure no plants, food like produce get in to prevent bringing in disease, bugs etc. It usually goes pretty quick from 5min to 15 or so. If I recall it is right near doors as enter- glased in area, but its been a few years since been in SJU airport. It is just one of those huge xray scanners. They then slap a sticker on bags and can proceed to checkin at counters. Do Not go to counter without stickers or they will send you back and stand in line again. It us unclear if carryons need to be scanned (but makes sense they should) at the USDA screening. After check-in then proceed to regular security screening. Make sure to try and eat before security, they do have some spots for food after secuirty checkpoint, but often lines moves very slow. So bring your own snacks that are factory sealed (or won't pass USDA:p.)

Also, as we learned the other day, the food is very expensive in the airport.....over $7 for a cheeseburger that tasted like wendys. no fries, no drink.

  6. We are leaving in couple of weeks boarding Jan 17 and staying on for 2 weeks we are so excited to do our first B2B cruise.

The dining room on the first night is served at what time?

Carl Bird is our cruise director for January, Is he any good?

Does the Victory have the omelette stations?

    Thank You

We just came back yesterday from a great cruise.

The dinning room was open i believe from 530pm-900pm on the first night

We had Karl (with a K, as he puts it) He was not bad, funny and energenic.

Yes, there are omlette stations at the buffets and at the Deli during breakfast. (but there are line ups)

  7. We just returned home from the Victory late last night....this was our first Carnival cruise, but our 5th cruise overall. This was a very relaxing cruise for us (even though it was port intensive). We stayed in cabin 9262 on the Lido deck...couldn't beat the location!!!

How did you find the motion of the ship from your room? we are in 9294 on the Lido this comming December.

    Thanx

  8. WE look forward to the review.

Since it is so port intensive, would i be assuming wrong that elegant nights arent so elegant? ive read that ppl wear jeans/shorts to elegant night in the dinning rooms?

what did ppl wear on your cruise for the elegant nights? men and women.

    thank you

  9. This may have been answered before and if so, I apologize. I've cruised before, so I understand how customs works when you disembark. Because we are flying out of San Juan, will we have to go through International Customs (yes, I realize that Puerto Rico is a US territory, but when you call Delta to ask about flights to San Juan, they transfer you to the International department) when we land back in the continental US? We're flying on Delta from San Juan to Atlanta and then on to Kansas City and I wonder if we're going to get stuck in a line at International customs in Atlanta. Any experience with this? Thanks!

We are flying from Bufallo-Newark-San juan later on in the year.

I called continental to ask if we would need to get our bags in newark before connecting to san juan. I too was transferred to an international agent. However, we will NOT be required to get our bags or go through any customs, just a change of terminals. Same thing for the return flight.

  10. So for the Hertz rental that you picked up at the airport and returned to the Sheraton the next day, did you have trouble finding parking overnight near the Sheraton Sat? We could do that. Thanks.

Sorry, i actually havent done it yet. This is for a rental comming up in December. We are staying at the Hampton inn and parking there is $5.

  11. Thank you very much for the responses it sounds like the ship isnt that rocky and we will just take everything and hope for the best

So for your car rental at the Sheraton in OSJ, did you plan at the Hertz desk? Are you reserving first or just showing up? We will be there later this month (woo-hoo!) and want to also drive to El Yunque, but see that Hertz there costs a lot more than others. I think it is for the convenience - we really don't want to drive or shuttle all over to get a car or return it. We are staying pre-cruise at the Sheraton one night, will go to El Yunque about 9am day of cruise, returning by about 3 or 4 to board.

We reserved a car from hertz picking up at the airport on saturday at 230pm and dropping off at OSJ sheraton on sunday at 12 noon, 37.00USD taxes in. this was with the entertainment card.

And for the return we did the opposite (picking up at OSJ on the sunday at 9:00am and dropping on the monday at the airport at 230pm) we would need to rent it for 2 days. and was quoted 86.00USD taxes in. again on the entertainment card.

the entertainment gets you about %10 off i think. I think that CAA or AAA gets you the same discount.

  12. Ive read a few posts on here about this ship being more 'rocky' than most ships....is this true? we will be there December 20-27. I heard that its because of the itinerary, that because the ports are so close together that the ship goes so slow?

Im not worried, but my wife is extremely worried and since this is her first cruise, i dont want her sick the whole time.

Thank you to all that reply
