  1. Sorry you are resentful of advice being giving about arriving the day before embarcation. Here is more that will probably cause more agita: Travel is never a sure thing and unexpected costs can arise for any reason. If the budget is so tight that there is no room for unexpected costs , perhaps the trip and its cost needs to be reevaluated. In your friend's case, they are not suffering a "hardship" by arriving the night before a cruise and paying for a hotel room. NCL owns them nothing. By the way, in that realm of unexpected costs, a driver busy texting on his cell phone caused us to be involved in a car crash in our new car on the way to port three weeks ago (two days before the cruise and an eight hour drive). We had to pay out to rent a car to continue our trip and to return home after the cruise. While we will eventually have part of the cost paid by insurance, it still was an expected cost.
  2. We never paid for the Celebrity loyalty program. It was free for those of us that had joined under Chandris/Celebrity and we were carried over into the Royal Caribbean buy out transition.
  3. I understand how frustrating it is to receive an "upgrade" that is not an upgrade in the passenger's view. My husband and I prefer a midship inside cabin on a low deck and that is what we always book if available. Unfortunately, we have received "upgrades" over the years to balcony cabins. For many reasons, we do not like a balcony cabin and consider the balcony to be a waste of space that would be of more use inside the cabin. We now have our reservations marked for any cruise line as "no upgrades." It has worked fairly well accept for Celebrity where are last two cruises we were moved and only found out at the pier when checking in. One we bit the bullet and went with the flow, the second time we flatly refused the cabin that was assigned as it in no way matched the location or size of the original cabin. Guest relations did move us to an acceptable cabin.
  4. MSC does not routinely place tissues or washcloths in the bathroom. The wash cloths are not there because many passengers do no use. The tissues are not in the bathroom because of a problems with passengers using the tissues for toilet paper and clogging the plumbing. A simple request to your cabin steward will result in either (or both) being placed in the cabin. By the way, I was just on another cruise line where a box of tissues was not provided unless requested. Cabin steward said it was because of the same misuse by passengers.
  5. This. From traveling with another couple that needed the an accessible stateroom, I know that MSC will accept a reservation for an accessible stateroom. However, the reservation confirmation includes the statement that additional information demonstrating need that give the particulars of the need including a signed doctor's note of fitness to travel, must be received by MSC within a certain time period. If the required information is not received by the deadline, the passengers may be moved to a non accessible cabin.
  6. You may or may not have port charges refunded for a missed port. There have been numerous threads that contain explanations on the reasons why port charges may not be refunded.
  7. Play it safe and double plastic bag anything placed in any waterproof case: Place item in a bag that can be zipped closed, place bag with its opening at the bottom of a second bag that can be also zipped closed. It prevents any problems should your case not be completely closed.
  8. I don't know what Royal Caribbean ship serves a free cold water lobster tail in the MDR. Our cruise on the Radiance two weeks ago only offered the usual warm water crayfish tail (spiny lobster). Cold water lobster was an upcharge.
  9. Key words in this post "my previous employers." You are not dealing with your previous employers.... This is like the passenger at Guest Services on board an MSC cruise that starts their complaint and expectations "On Carnival...."
  10. Besides breaking into the US market, MSC also has a good handle on controlling costs. Make sure that when booking a MSC cruise, that one reads and understands the MSC cruise contract and the terms and conditions. One of the ways that MSC has headed off fare churning by passengers is by tight control over their definition of cancellation with attendant fees and price drops on fares.
  11. Please read and understand the information that is on the NCL website about booking conditions and that you agree to when booking a cabin. For additional help, find an experienced travel agent. Moving to a cabin in the same category (cabin, perks are different) is not a downgrade.
  12. This procedure is explained in the ticket contract and terms and conditions that your friend agreed to when booking the cruise. If a passenger is left solo in a double cabin because of one of the passenger's cancellation or "no show," a single supplement will be changed to the remaining passenger. In your friend's case, the additional $75 was the cost of the single supplement hat remained after the friend cancelled. By the way, other cruise lines have now added similar terms to their ticket contracts.
  13. It doesn't matter what you think. Read the ticket contract and terms and conditions that you are agreeing to when you book.
  14. Look on any deck plans. See all those funny triangles, circles, squares, slashes, etc.? That gives information on the possible capacity of a cabin as will as bedding options, connecting with next door cabins, etc. Cabins that aren't labeled for more than two (or the rare single passenger cabin, are cabins for two. And yes, single passengers do often pay a single supplement when the only option are cabins that hold two or more (although single passengers often find that the cabins with capacities for more than two passengers can not be booked by a single). If the deck plans do not show all the cabin details on the deck plans when at the booking stage, you need to find a website that does.
  15. In any case, theyt are labeled for a possible occupancy greater than two.
  16. The deck plans I have for the Escape says the angled balconies has a capacity for three passengers. Whenever a cabin is booked for less than the labeled capacity, the passengers can be moved to another cabin to allow someone to book that is in need of a cabin with the higher number of beds. At that point, the status of the life boat station capacity comes into play. The cabin being rebooked at the higher capacity will need to still have space for passengers. Good rule to follow, never book a cabin that can hold more then your number of passengers in your reservation. If one does book a larger capacity cabin that required by one's party, there is always a chance that you will be moved without notification.
  17. Well established procedure to be transported from Florida to Texas to Martha's Vineyard....
  18. I sent our passports in for renewal; mailed them on July 19, 2022. At the time, the website said six-nine weeks for processing once received. They were delivered back to me on September 2. I am from Florida so it is the Texas passport processing office that did the processing.
  19. You all are confusing a "Real ID" and "Enhanced" Diver's license. It is the "Real ID" requirement that is being pushed back , not the "Enhanced" that is limited to a small number of states bordering Canada.
  20. You lose your money if you miss the excursion. It is also possible that if your are prebooking the excursions on the NCL website, the two bookings will not be permitted because of the lack of time between the two excursions.
  21. There are situations where the remaining passenger will not be able to cruise without the other passenger. You need to check the restrictions on the fare under which you are booked and not depend on blanket statements of forum posters.
  22. Essiesmom already gave the correct information about the Princess cruise. My post was an attempt to help people learn that the assumption that a birth certificate and photo ID is all that is needed for closed loop cruises can leave them standing on the pier at embarkation.
  23. Make sure everyone in your party can swim. If the tide is in, there will be a section you will have to swim a short distance to continue.
  24. I just read the Cunard website. Unless you checked the specific voyage number on the list published on the website, I wouldn't be positive that vaccinations are not required.
  25. You are correct. I have been checking periodically the testing and vaccination requirements for Royal Caribbean from the time I booked it in June. While mine is not a transAtlantic cruise, I have noticed the requirements for the cruise itineraries that do require vaccinations and testing .
