1.
The new prices are not comparable... Take a good look at the new price list that has been circulating around the board. $10 for a foo foo drink and 7-8 for a Coors/bud. I get better prices pool side in Vegas.

The bottom line is this. 41 bucks for the lowest level alcohol drink package each day (just went up $6 each day in the past month or so) or 8 bucks a beer... Both are very bad options. $24 for three beers (not including gratuity)... That isn't happening in many places that are keeping their doors open unless they have the cult type following. In the end, the mark up is outrageous when at home anyone one of us can buy 2 twelve packs for the price of 3 beers on the cruise. At what point is the mark up too much is the real question. RC is pushing to find that out as we speak based on the comments on this site.

The bonus we have at ports is that if we don't like the price point, there is another bar/restaurant to choose. A ship out to sea's only competition is a customer that is fed up.
The foo foo drinks are 12 plus gratuity.....14.16 and my husband said i better darn sight love my pina colada..this was on feb 15 cruise on adventure as the week before it was 8 something...same bar....guys said new prices loaded into the computers. So i will drink on land if I drink or enjoy my wine I bring on board. Sorry RCCL I am not paying those prices to make up for your drink packages you sell.
  2. I think it is time for land vacations. RCCL is my home...loyal to Royal...but with the increased drink prices, the cutbacks, and the dining changes...hubby is saying we need to try more land vacations....trade the timeshares more...

Ehhhh have some of those next cruise certs still to use but not as these prices...yikes

  3. I apologize for hijacking this thread but would you mind telling me if the doors on cabin 8690 are full glass or partial glass. Some voyager class ships seem to have full glass not sure about adventure, I know it's not a slider

Daughter says it was a full glass door.....she loved the balcony...her first...she is usually in an inside cabin..

  4. Sorry to hear of your experience. We were on Feb 8 and 15th and had excellent service the first week but the second week we switched to MTD. Captains night has never been the steak and lobster night on the Adventure. Lobster is offered as the fisherman's platter.

We found the food to be ok but the kitchen having some real issues. This ship had a lot of crew taken from it a few weeks ago and sent to Quantum to help with staffing issues. We have been on 8 cruises on the Adventure and have found some of the most amazing crew to be here on the Adventure.

We have been on Carnival and also Celebrity and found Royal food to be the same if not better then on Carnival for sure and Celebrity experience was great food but service was epic fail.

  5. We were just in 8616 which is the opposite side of side of the ship on the hump. The new chairs are adjustable but do not recline. With the size of the new tables on the balcony a lounge chair would be out of the question.

Love our hump cabins....but sure loved visiting our kids back in 8690 this past trip....ahhhhhh sun good times....no snow....no ice except in the bucket

  6. We were on board with you and this past week. Service great but food lacking. How a chef forgets to make sure his corden bleu is proper...meaning it lacked the stuffing...is beyond us...the head waiters heard it from all tables.

We didn't have musty smell on deck 8. To the poster...been there done that with Carnival...with food. Even this food was better than our last trip on Carnival Victory in July. Windjammer dinner was great .

  7. Curious how AoS has stood up over the years. This was one of the speculated trickle down ship changeups with the new ships debuting over the next couple of years.

Always liked the idea of leaving from someplace tropical very little chance of 'weather' slowing the process down(except Hurricanes.......)

    Enjoy! Keep us posted.

Just got home sunday after two wonderful weeks onboard. The crew takes excellent care of this ship. She had a mini dry dock last spring and late next year she is scheduled to have her full dry dock done according to the Captain during his session for questions and answers.

Its just wonderful to take your coat off when you get on the plane and its so so wonderful to be in warm weather when you get off the plane.

  8. Cruising on Sunday just notified today not to check in until after 5:00 anyone know what this is all about. I am not going to sit at the airport for 6 hours waiting to go to the port. Anyone have experience recently, in years passed we were always on by 11:00.

go you will be fine. They are trying to keep from having backup at the port. We were on board by noon in the Windjammer having lunch.

  9. How was your trip? I leave on Indy this Saturday.

food was hit or miss...not sure what was going on with the kitchen but we were told a lot of crew were pulled during the captains corner session at a last minute request to go to the Quantum. Some only got a one day's notice. So lots of new faces and lots of training. First week waiter excellent and food was off...second week we switched to MTD and still had great service and some food like my favorite escargot were over cooked....I gave up...lol

love this ship and even tho so so many new faces...everyone smiling and never a no I can't do this. Windjammer was excellent for dinner!

Mercedes, the cruise director was pulled away to Miami after the second night of our first week and was not back this past week as well. Activities director replaced her and I think was a little overwhelmed.

Ports were great...some rain in ST Thomas up at the tram but we loved every minute.

    Enjoy the Indy!!!!!!

  10. Also to the poster....sign up for your meet and mingle!!! We have met so so so many great people and cruised again with them from meeting and chatting on the roll call for that cruise and then attending our meet and mingle!!!

I met Bob on the Adventure of the Seas finally after reading his posts on cruise critic....Clarea! great guy!!!

This past trip..our two weeks on Adventure...we had family with us and didn't get up to the CL or the DL but we did have dinner with our cruising buds doing MTD. We would see each other around the ship and some in the ports.

  11. We must have been on the same cruise 15th Feb to the 22nd.

I only ate in the WJ one evening meal, the night we were in Aruba, and the variety was pretty decent and the sushi was prepared fresh.

The lunch options were pretty similar each day and I did hear a lot of people complaining about the constant emphasis on pork. I never had an issue with it, but I do know many would have liked more variety day by day.

The Main Dining Room dinners were really good in my opinion. I was careful what I picked and rarely had any issues with the variety offered. Any failings were my decision to try something a little out of my comfort zone. Our seating time was 6pm and we were often still in there at 7:45. In no way did this seem the fault of our wait staff, who were great. Thankfully we had really nice people to chat to, but I do think over an hour and a half for dinner each night was a little excessive.

Our first week was great but kitchen really messing up....cordon bleu...plain chicken...forgot to stuff it...how you forget to stuff the entire dining time entree? just little things that after so many cruises and 8 on adventure it just didn't make the experience enjoyable. second week was crazy the first two days...our waiter was too over the top...demanding we stop talking so he could do his talk. I don't think so. We were sitting..the four of us with two spanish speaking couples...one couple had no english and didn't say a word much less acknowledge us at the table first night and other couple was so excited to just have someone willing to talk to the with limited english and had bad table experience week before. Our friends were supposed to sit with us as well but had switched to MTD and we decided we were doing that also. What a difference but service was fast like our week prior and was better.

  12. Sorry to high jack. But any chance you would post new compasses??

Especially if you have both itineraries

    I didn't keep the compasses....sorry....

We also had the activities director as our cruise director as Mercedes was called to Miami in the middle of our cruise the week before. Really noticed the cutback in activities....really missed the PA announcements.

The captain noted at his captain corner session that these changes were brought about by surveys from the Quantum. Yep the ship that keeps on spilling over changes to all of the ships. Sorry just shaking my head.

  13. Just back tonight from two weeks on board the Adventure. We ate one night in the WJ for dinner with our group after a long day and not wanting to hurry and go to MDR. We were glad we did. Nothing was appealing on the menu for MDR but the food was great up in WJ. We loved the stir fry station and the steaks cooked just right was added bonus. Food this trip in MDR was hit or miss. We switched to MTD this second week as our waiter was moved to another area and service was way to slow the first two nights and food orders were not correct. The kitchen was slow and not sure why.

  14. two bottles of wine is supposed to be carried on as that has been our experience the past years. There is a small store inside the terminal and you can purchase there as well as taking a taxi out.

You can drop off your luggage and go check in...you can get something to eat and then rooms are usually ready between 1-130 drop off your things and go explore Old San Juan. You have to be back for muster which is usually around 6. There will be an all aboard sign when you go off the ship.

Enjoy...we are getting on sunday for another two weeks...
