  1. Do you not take any extras? Last January we had a two day extension of a trip due to mechanical issues. There were a lot of retirees on the trip as well as college kids who were still on break. Most were pretty happy with the extension — except those who did not bring any extra meds. Do you and Laura have a strategy? I always bring at least 5 days extra. (This could be a “public service announcement” for those who have never thought about it”.) Katherine

    Katherine, a great reminder.

  2. It’s funny you mention the bag! They had me breath into one. Usually that works, but I was too far gone at that point. I had myself in quite a state.

One day I’m sure this will all be a funny story....”Hey Lillian, remember that time you had a panic attack in the middle of the ocean on a dream vacation?!? Ohhh hahaha! That was crazy!!”

    One day....

It will and you will be laughing too! And thank you -- went to the clinic today to get a new prescription for the 'instant inhaler'. Seems like a waste of money since I've not had to use that inhaler in over an a year, but as you say one never knows. And something I haven't always done, and was reminded at the visit, is to have it with me at all times.

From reading other posts -- seems like most of us are guilty of expired inhalers :) .

  3. OP -- I hear ya about the "instant" puffer collecting dust. It seemed the only time I did remember to renew it was I was off on a cruise! With a change in asthma meds I hardly use it anymore, but like you I'm supposed to have it with me.

Good to hear everything worked out!

I too have experienced that panic / anxiety attack -- it is a very scary thing. (it doesn't work for everyone due to factors, but sometimes doing the breathing into a paper bag helps to try and calm us. Of course you have to get passed the 'bark cough' while trying it.)

  4. My first RCI cruise was on Song of Norway -- 7 July 1991 (my cruise history shows Majesty of the Seas - but, I believe fire in dry dock delayed her release by a year and Monarch came out first -- I was booked on the Song of Norway so was glad for the delay). Sailed from San Juan to Martinique, Barbados, Antigua, St. Maarten, and St. Thomas.

I pulled out the photo album -- Cost - are you all sitting down -- a whopping $1,809.00CDN single with air from Montreal!! Cabin was Cat H - larger outside stateroom, two lower beds - Number 328.

    Captain: Ole Johan Gronhaug.

    Things are sure different now:)

  5. LOL, I must be the only one -- yes, one of the first things I do is check the table assignment/placement in MDR (if doing traditional dining - which is usually the case) and make note of when someone will be there if I need to have it changed. But I don't bother unpacking until after muster drill (usually have late seating) - or even later, as will have what I want to wear in my backpack in case of missed luggage, or if thing I want to change my mind will have something packed close to the top of the suitcase.

Since I'm usually on board well before the 1pm timeframe for cabins to open, I'm roaming around and getting pictures before the masses start arriving, getting my bearings on what stairs to use (as usually avoid waiting or the elevators), scouting out bars, walking around the ship.

And grabbing my first Wildberry LavaFlow at the pool bar, grabbing a lounge chair and taking a deep breath -- oh yeah, I'm on vacation!
