  1. Getting the CSC doesn't mean that ships can sail at 100% capacity, it just means the ship can sail in a revenue capacity. I seriously doubt any RCG ships will sail at 100% capacity this year. We have to remember that the healthy sail protocols require an expand medical area and rooms for quarantine. The first sailing have been under 40% and will gradually increase.

     

    @Biker19 I still stand by that all the extras are what brings in the most profit, they might be just breaking even when it comes to fares.

  2. RCG makes money, that 10% profit at 108% capacity more than likely is only talking about cruise fare. Lots of businesses have thin profit margins on initial offerings, that's why they push upgrades and luxury experiences. If they sell an internet, bev or dining package to half those cruisers, I am sure its at least 90% pure profit. I think that because they have already accounted for the cost already.

  3. @TheMastodon Turning a profit on a couple of sailings, is no where near the idea of printing money at full capacity. I specified Oasis and Quantum class ships only when talking about profitability. They hold over 5000 pax and sell the fares at almost double or more of the smaller classes. With 35% at the price point, that's like sailing at full capacity in any other class. Plus factor in all the extra things they charge for and the profit from Royal Class. Like a 6 day on Mariner is roughly $500 in an inside but close to $800 on an Oasis or Quantum ship, not to mention that a star class cabin could be $5000 per person. You might spend $1000 per pax for the DBP/UDP/Voom and fare for a lesser class but $4000 for that on Oasis.

     

    Being able to make money on reduced capacity sailings for this particular situation is a good thing. But that profit will have to go towards all the debt they have accumulated during shutdown. I run a restaurant and during shut down we kept turning a profit, great based on the fact that the dining room was closed. But no where near what we normally do since the dining room was closed. As a business I am sure RCG understands that something is better than nothing. They understand that there is a threshold they can operate to make things worth it.

  4. @HMR74 I believe 100% that no cruises in 2021 will be close to capacity. Mr Fain actually said that they weren't even going to get to 50% capacity until a few months after the first sailing...rather they were slowly going to 50%. I cruise Oct 31st on Allure, I was estimating maybe 70% capacity. I think the number may be lower, around 60%.  I don't think there will be many kids or unvax pax because many people across boards say they won't get vax'd or cruise with mask. I would say since CWC is still around and if you don't feel confident, it is better to cancel before payment. My cousin works for American Airlines and they were told to expect mask to be in place until 2022.

  5. I normally prefer smaller ships but couldn't pass up the great deal to try Sky class. I recall reading that Oasis and quantum class ships only need to be at 35-ish percent capacity to profitable. While the other classes have to be over 60%. I have also been told by many other pax that on those classes you usually don't feel the crowds because of how the space is utilized. Based on looking at available rooms, it looks like my Oct Allure will maybe hit 70%

     

     

  6. I personally hated the mask and only wore them when absolutely necessary. If I didn't want to comply I order online. The day we no longer had to wear them to work, I was face free. In Feb 2020 I planned a hybrid vacation for my mother's 60th birthday: she has never been on a cruise and always wanted to go to Disney/Universal. We had been resigned to the fact that mask might be a thing, we weren't going to cancel our vacation as we missed out on our Oct 2020 RCG cruise on Liberty. None of us planned on getting the vaccine as I had Covid in April of 2020, but our jobs required it so we bit the bullet.

     

    I don't think its a good idea to have mixed cruises but I want to cruise. It is not that as a vaccinated person I am overtly concerned with catching Covid. My concern is that there has to be different sets of rules and restrictions. I understand that ports may change and they may have mask restrictions. I really want to cruise so I am okay with mask in common areas, not happy but okay. I have a 2br GS on Allure with 5 adults. The current price for 4 adults is almost double. I am not missing out on finally trying suite class on an Oasis class ship because mild mask restrictions.

  7. @Crazy planning momJust because the CSO will no longer be law doesn't mean ships will sail at full capacity any time soon. I don't see that happening until at least 1Q 2022, if that. RCG always said it would be a slow, methodical start back to cruising. They have a quite a bit of fleet that hasn't even been put back into rotation. Plus with the criteria for their healthy sail, they have to leave a percentage of cabins available for quarantine.

     

    A rep I spoke to said that they are closing booking once they reach a certain capacity, they included holiday cruises...which would have commenced after the CSO expired. To answer OP's question I think future cruises after March 2022 are being sold to close to capacity. As the situation is ever changing, they might be keeping capacity limits until the summer of 2022
