  1. This is true for all proper for-profit corporations. Shareholders' interests above all others.
  2. Yes, but this is a ship's officer, not the FNG.
  3. First clue that it might actually be worth watching! 😎
  4. Yeah. Funny story. I was on the Bliss's first AK sailing in April. She came in empty the day before, so there were no disembarking passengers. We arrived at the port a bit before 9:30. They opened the doors at 9:30 and we literally just walked through everything and were on the ship at 10:00. The Local wasn't supposed to open until 11:00 but they said we could have a seat and they got me my first beer. They took our lunch order at about 10:30, which was fine because we ate breakfast at the hotel. We were absolute steerage. Cheap inside cabin. As I enjoyed my beer and awaited my lunch, I observed a constant stream of Haven parades. These are led by a NCL employee holding up a sign proudly proclaiming "HAVEN!!! passengers, get your cheap steerage butts out of the way!" Okay, not really but that was the message being sent. Where were these parades going? I guess to their cabins, but ours were already ready as well. Did it annoy me? Absolutely not. I was on vacation on a cruise ship. Did it amuse me? Absolutely! I had paid 10 cents on the dollar to be in the exact same place! 😎
  5. I don't know anything about other cruise lines, but most hotels I stay in have checkin times of 3 or 4 in the afternoon.
  6. I would just order one of these from Amazon and pay for next day delivery to me at the hotel. Amazon.com : Best Choice Products Folding Zero Gravity Outdoor Recliner Patio Lounge Chair w/Adjustable Canopy Shade, Headrest, Side Accessory Tray, Textilene Mesh - Beige : Patio, Lawn & Garden
  7. Yeah! That's somewhere around two thousand dimes!🤣
  8. I sailed the Sky in January and it was fantastic. Was I on a different ship? Is Alexa still on the Sky? If so, listen to Alexa for an hour and you'll be in a much better place. Also, I recommend full utilization of your beverage package.
  9. It's marketing. Designed to instill envy in the masses of steerage peasants so that they feel compelled to pay for Haven on their next cruise.
  10. Exactly. They've publicly acknowledged that they made a very stupid move. That's the only positive I've taken out of this. Please fellow cruisers weigh in so that NCL has no reason to believe that this was anything other than an awful business decision.
  11. Ten High is lower shelf stuff. Last fall, it was the ONLY bourbon included in the basic package on the Joy. I just drank JD and Scotch instead. Fortunately, they fixed that.
  12. I'm guessing that the OBC and FCC will drop the percentage of "extremely upset" folks from about 90% to 30%. It certainly wouldn't be a surprise if that remaining 30% still demand removal of DSC, complain to the staff and post damning things about NCL on social media for the foreseeable future. There are a lot of people who scrape and save to take a cruise like this. They may have to "settle" for the cheapest cabins, figuring "well the ship has that fantastic OL to enjoy the scenery." They likely aren't even in a position to use the FCC for another cruise in the next year and a half, nor are they necessarily going to get much benefit from non-refundable OBC. At the end of the day, NCL hasn't made anything "right." They can't unless they have a time machine. They've (hopefully) admitted that it was an extremely boneheaded decision and have disciplined those responsible. I hope I never read anything like this again.
  13. I've bought the Glenfiddich 12 year in the past, but haven't tried the higher end stuff. I do like Scotch! At one point, I decided to try all the major players to see what I liked best. I wound up with Black Label as my go-to. I probably tried three or four single malts but decided that I preferred the Johnnie Walker blend the best.
  14. I'll have to do that as a B2B someday. This Summer we're planning a ten day including Hubbard glacier (first time for us). Next Summer has us targeting the HI to AK 16 day Spirit (I know we've previously discussed this), so probably another year. I'm also looking at an early Spring 2024 AK B2B again (because this year's was just so darned much fun!😁), but that would likely be the more generic Breakaway+ sailings.
  15. Bulleit is my go to bourbon, and it is now back in the basic package (it was in 2021, and then wasn't in 2022). They also had Wild Turkey 101 in good supply in April. Cruising is good again.😎
  16. Yeah, somebody has to take the heat for this. This is plain awful publicity, and (rightfully) they had to bite the bullet, admit their stupidity, and spend some $$$ to try to fix it. I'm envisioning an internal NCL memo to all management today: "Due to a recent incident on our latest ship, the Prima, any function wishing to remove any public venue from use by the general passenger population must receive advanced approval from the VP of (whatever)." IOW: "if any of you clowns do this again, we wish you well in your future employment endeavors." Followed by, "I am happy to announce that fancy title Joe who has previously led our special events department has accepted a new position leading our green waste disposal team. In this role, Joe will be in charge of determining optimal methods to dispose of human 💩 at sea without upsetting governments, regulators, whales, residents, protestors and anybody/everybody else who gives a 💩about 💩. We wish Joe well in this roll and expect all teams to provide support to Joe as he deals with his new pile of 💩." MegaCorp taught me a lot.😎
  17. That looks like a great itinerary! Both Glacier Bay and Hubbard Glacier, with the inside passage as well.
  18. In my experience, yes it is. It shows up not as a payment but a reduced base fare.
  19. Fantastic!!! This is reassuring, as it indicates that they clearly got the message that removing the OL is totally unacceptable. Thank you for your reports and your actions. I have this itinerary booked in the future and find it reassuring that they've (hopefully) learned their lesson here. For anybody planning to sail by the end of 2024, that 20% FCC can be a lot of $$$.
  20. I can easily believe that this is the root cause for some of the angst. DW and I are both OCD. I don't recall us ever forgetting to change it but at times we'll ask each other half way to breakfast, "did we remember to set the room status?"
