  1. Are you looking at a 5 or 9 day sailing, I think that's what they have August. There is a very different vibe between the two. The ship is beautiful, however on the 5 day there just doesn't seem to be enough time for the passenger load to do all the activities which leads to a lot of grumpy people. If you are looking at a 5 day make sure to watch for the reservations to open so you can get your early.

  2. Thanks! I like the bed away from the bathroom, whichever way it faces. So very happy w that news.

Anyone know about martinis, or a recent drink menu?

    Thanks!

Last fall when we sailed on Jewel they did have many types of martinis. You may not be able to get all varieties at all bars, but you should be able to get most on the ship.

There is a current live thread, you can always ask there for current info.

  3. We have the kids in one room and we are in the one next door. We could do post its on the door but they might fall off.

We do post it's, or other types of notes on the mirror or desk in the room along with messages on the cabin phones. Get extra keys for each other's cabins so you can leave them inside, not in the hallway where other can get to them. We started cruising with our kids before Internet, texting, etc was the thing. It really is not hard if you let the kids know what is expected.

Even now our kids, in their 20s, do not want to carry their phones around with them, nor do we. With the water activities, etc (my son spends a lot of time on the basketball court) on the ship it is more of a pain to figure out where to put them safely.

  4. First, glad Jim is better and had good care from ships medical....and glad you had insurance!

Second, shame on RC for not putting these people off the ship. Multiple complaints form several others? Nothing done except a fine....unacceptable.

    ***

And I am betting they whined and made a scene until the fine was taken off. Agree totally unacceptable, but what I have found is royal is very lax in enforcing most of their rules. Very unfortunate.

  5. Doesn't seem to matter if it is pre purchased or not, seems more about which ship you are on wether it's pre printed or not. Friends on Harmony and Anthem had it pre printed. We have sailed Oasis, Allure and all 4 times pre purchased months before sailing and have never had it pre printed - we just got off end of October on Oasis and it was still a sticker.

I am wondering if it something new they are rolling out to have it pre printed. When we sailed on Anthem back in August we pre purchased but it was a sticker on the card still. Nice to have them pre printed, harder, not impossible, to rub off.

  6. So Royal wants to sell 10 balcony GTY that can hold 3/4 guests. They put 20 out on the market because they know that at least half won't end up sailing. Oh no, we're two months from sailing and 15 of those GTYs are sailing and still don't have room assignments. Royal has 10 balconies available that can hold 3/4 per their plan. Where do those other five rooms go?

Royal is obligated to give them a balcony or better. They literally cannot fit three people in a double occupancy room. But hey look, there are 25 doubles booked in rooms that can hold more than that. So folks get bumped.

Is it legal? Yes. Is it fair? Depends on which side of the coin you're looking at. Is it right? Personal opinion. Does it suck? For the people who get bumped, yes.

Those guests who booked GTY rooms bought and paid for their cruise just like the room assignment folks did. Royal has to put them somewhere.

I 100% get what you are saying and agree they have to go somewhere. Where I have an issue, and I think many here, is the fact that they took a cabin from someone who had booked so far in advance and it being a "coveted" cabin. The cruise lines know which cabins are favored by regular cruises, and in fact often charge more for them due to their desirability. Why, if there are so many other cabins on the ship that can accommodate 3 is this the cabin they pick to oust the original occupant? Can they, yes, but it truly makes me wonder why I would want to cruise a lone that takes that most desirable cabin that was booked so far in advance instead of a regular side facing balcony that can fit 3. And yes there usually are a lot of those so it's not a matter of only having that one cabin left.

To the OP I very much sympathize with you and hope you have a resolution that you are happy with. Please do let us know how it all works out.

  7. I don't usually quote entire long posts, but I wanted to this time.

    Ski-Lady, this is exceptionally well-written.

I strongly suggest that you send the entire thing to

    mbayley@rccl.com

Agreed. So sorry for what you had to go through. I am sure I would not have been able to keep it together and explain so factually as you did. Totally unacceptable what happened to you.

Hello! We are also on this cruise.....as well as last week and next week. Everything is great. I have found the food in the MDR to be very good. My husband orders off the children's menu and has had Mac and cheese just about every night with different things. He is happy! We have eaten in Chops twice and will go again tomorrow night. It was excellent. Our friends ate in Giovanni's last night and loved it.

We have been in two cabins so far. The first week we were in a JS and it was fabulous. We moved down to an E cat. Balcony for the next two weeks and that was quite an adjustment' date=' but we are managing. I like the new firm mattresses. I can't sleep on a soft one.

The B2B turn around was quite hectic last week and there were some very rude passengers pitching fits!! Apparently they have never done an B2B before and didn't know you have to be flexible. At least we didn't have to get off the ship. It DID take longer than normal, but they are just getting started with the Caribbean season down here and I'm sure they will work the kinks out. We don't have nearly as many for the upcomiing turn around. The luncheon was excellent.

We have had wonderful weather and just had three perfect beach days in a row. We have had smooth sailing and Capt. Lis is the best!![/size']

We are doing the same trip you did last week. From your previous reviews I know you find some really good beach spots. We haven't finalized our days yet and hoping to do a more relaxed sailing this time. Would you be willing to recommend/share where you spent, or are spending your days in port?

  8. Yes, I believe it depends on the demographic. It was always crowded on the second sailing from PC last month.

More senior folks seem to enjoy spending the day sitting inside the mall there, just staring at people. I noticed it on the Explorer OS also out of Port Canaveral twice last year.

More kids and younger active people will indeed be out taking advantage of other offerings.

Could be, we have usually sailed during the summer months when lots of families are onboard. Have also had great weather so the outside venues were all open. This applies to all ships with promenade areas.

  9. D+ dropoff is before you get in line for the terminal security entry. I say it's on the left side because if you are looking at the building the security entry is on the right side and the luggage drop is about 1/3 of the way from the left.

After you drop your luggage get into the no-baggage line.

    Enjoy

Is this just D+ and above? We are diamond and just trying to plan. If we need to the regular route that's what we will do, but if we can speed it up all the better.

  10. I remember some older threads stating some rooms did have a single sofa bed, basically a chair that folded out. Can't say if this cabin is one of those or not. Hopefully someone will know for sure. The original poster was not happy about it if I remember correctly.

  11.

As you must have noticed I based my post on RCI website under the FAQ section. I realize RCIs website at best sometimes is not up to date. IF what you're saying is correct than that's good to know.

No IF, i have personally seen it myself on Quantum and Anthem and it has been discussed a great deal on many threads Harmony is the same.

  12. I will keep that in mind. I guess you can hardly avoid the buffet at breakfast and lunch.

The thing is on Oasis class ships you can since there are a number of places to get breakfast and lunch. They have boards (pretty sure they are still on Oasis) showing how crowded each place is. We only went once to the Windjammer, buffet, when we were on Allure. You can do Johnny Rockets, Park Cafe, Wipe out Cafe, etc. Lots of options.

  13. cb could post "grass is generally green" and you guys would say she's wrong and ask if she's a botanist. It's getting ridiculous. If almost anyone else had posted what she posted no one would get on that person's case about it.

In MY case what cb said was true. The symptoms I had after our last cruise, which lasted for weeks, DID go away. And I didn't feel the need to see a doctor. It was annoying and difficult, but not an actual medical problem.

Unfortunately most of what cb posts is either inaccurate or misleading, not all but quite a lot of it. In this case she said it WILL go away and basically don't worry. For some it doesn't always go away and a doctor visit is warranted. I would rather have her posts corrected to allow others, sometimes first timers, to realize there is another side. If cb would ever come back to see the corrections maybe the incorrect information would stop, but it never appears she does as the same incorrect information is posted over and over again.

  14.

Yes anything after midnight incurs a charge. I would assume people read the menus/compass to understand that certain services incur additional charges during certain times.

I was assuming OP ordered room service before midnight.

FYI, on Quantum class ships as well as Harmony room service is different. Most items now incur a charge regardless of time of day.

To the OP, I suggest going back to other ships, a lot of your complaints are changes they have made on the new high class ships, supposedly for us [emoji6], such as the room service charge.
