  1. We were also on this cruise and never heard any announcements about the passengers health other than the fact we were speeding up to get back to Bayonne early due to a medical emergency. Was it this woman, I do not know. There were so many rumors floating around the ship, all very diferent, and most were positive their story was correct. I came here to see if there was any concrete info.

    Prayers to the family.

  2. We have used walkie talkies many many times on cruises. They are great onboard and off the ship. Pick a channel that everyone in your group will monitor, that cuts down on chatter. Carry them in your carry on so you can have access when you board before your luggage is delivered.

Just be careful if you are using them off the ship as they are illegal in many ports. The local police use the same channels and you can be fined or worse if you do use them there.

  3. We are on the same sailing and very much looking forward to it. Yes there are some that have nothing good to say about the ship, but for the most part they are looking for the old time Royal experience which this ship does not have. Check out Swim13's review, lots of great pictures and good words. It is a different sailing but gives a good idea of what is there. Most of the recent reviews have changed around quite a bit and most are enjoying. If the reviews are troubling you stop reading them . I do continue to read and take what I can from each. If you haven't already make sure to join the roll call.

  4. Sorry to hear about your experience with the north star. We too booked for sail away time in Bermuda. We are doing the 5 day in August, have checked my reservation and it's still there. I would hope they would let people know ahead of time if this is what they are finding now that Anthem is doing sailing there. How far ahead had you booked your time?

  5. No problem rescheduling -- unless you've done it already. Here's a story to illustrate:

I'm a teacher, and I was scheduled for jury duty on exam week. That's a week teachers just can't miss. I sent in a letter to the address on the summons. They ignored it, but I called two weeks after sending the letter and as soon as I talked to a human being they postponed me to a summer date.

However, one of my fellow teachers was assigned to jury duty the very same week. He too asked for a postponement, but he was refused. Why? Because he'd already asked for one postponement, and this was his rescheduled week. Because it was the end of the year and graduation day was imminent, he had to come in after hours to grade his exams and submit his final grades.

The moral, of course: Don't ask unless it's really important because you just don't know when they'll reschedule you.

I recently rescheduled county court, no not quite the same as OP but, due to a cruise. I was granted a reschedule and given a new date along with a notice that I could change that within x days. Thought it was a good date and forgot about it. When my new notice came realized it wasn't a great time but was stuck. In the end I ended up not having to go due to a switch in court schedules. If that hadn't happened I would have been stuck since I didn't take the out when it was given.

  6. CB at Sea, You must not have children, mine are 16 & 18 and of course they will be with us on this cruise! This is now the 3rd largest ship on the ocean with 17 decks. Do you want to go through all 17 to find your kids??? Or when its 2:00 am and they have not come back to the cabin yet! No thanks I'll take the ZOOM package & yes they will respond to their cell phones!

I have sailed on Allure with a 17 year old and no texting. We set the rules and my kids follow them (almost all the time). Have sailed with my kids on many cruises and have yet to use walkie talkies, texts or any other electronic type of communication. My kids know exactly what will happen when they are not where they are supposed to be. What do you think people did even 10 years ago before cell phones were everwhere. To us it's not worth the cost, or chance of loosing/misplacing cell phones onboard the ship, especially with so many places water comes into play.

  7. Thanks Donna!

    That's great to hear.

We'll be on Anthem in a little more than two weeks.

I'll ask the attendant once we board.

While I agree with others that you should not have a problem please do come back after your cruise and let us know your results. We have 2 adjoining (not connrcting) balconies on our upcoming Anthem cruise and expect we will be able to open the divider.

  8. Not complicated. I wonder why they bother to list a dress code. Either have a dress code - or don't. Signage at the entrance of the dining room as well as a post in the Compass states no short/hats in the MDR at dinner, yet it is rarely if ever enforced. Until recently, Celebrity had a requirement of a jacket in the dining room, for formal night. No jacket, no entrance. If the passenger had no jacket, they gave him one to wear. The point is, the code was enforced.

Folks are SO casual now, gym shorts and t shirts for dinner.. perhaps the "dress code" keeps it from getting worse.

    M

Yes, if the cruise lines changed or eliminated the dress code there would be nothing to enforce. However, if you have one you should be enforcing it. Its just like everything else on the ship where they put a "rule" out there and then don't bother to correct people when they don't follow it such as saving seats, chair hogs, etc. As long as they won't enforce their rules people will continue to ignore them.

  9. So then they don't have to be returned on the day that you scan them out? Just so long as they are all in before the end of the cruise.

Can you can them back in and then scan out clean ones for the next day so you don't have to stand in line the day you want to go into port?

Just out of curiosity - how much do they charge?

No you don't have to scan them back in each day. We simply take the wet used ones to the stand and switch them out for clean dry ones. We keep those in our cabin to use the next day whether that be on the ship or in port.

I believe the current charge for unreturned towels is $20 each.

  10. For some reason on Anthem (and a number of other new ships) they decided not to put pullmans in the standard cabins. I agree with 2 kids it is so much easier to have at least one. Not sure what their reasoning was.

If you are comfortable with it look into a balcony with an inside across the hall. We found that is often about the same or cheaper, and you get 2 bathrooms!

  11. Hello.

The Dining Room Dress Code is as follows:

    Smart Casual:

Ladies: Skirt or pants (no holes, rips or tears) with a blouse.

Gentlemen: Pants (no holes, rips or tears) with a collared shirt.

    Formal:

    Ladies: Cocktail dress or pantsuit.

Gentlemen: Suit (black tie is optional).

    Note:

    • Swimsuits, robes, bare feet, tank tops, baseball caps and pool wear are not allowed in the main restaurants or specialty restaurants. T-shirts, shorts and flip-flops are acceptable for lunch.
    • The dress code above is applicable to children of all ages.

    We hope this info helps.

I am glad to have the explanation from you, Royal Caribbean International. I have no problem with these standards, but there is a sad lack of enforcement by the RCI staff.

Agree, if you have a dress code why oh why do you not enforce it? Personally I don't care what the official word is if I chose to sail with your company I will follow it, but it is getting harder and harder when hardly anyone else does and NOBODY enforces it.

  12. How old is your son? If he is under 18 (I think that is cutoff, if not I am sure someone will correct me) I am pretty sure he will get different coupons than you do. Kids get stuff like buy one get one free tatoo, discounts of pets at sea, match play in the arcade, etc.

Either way call C&A and have his account linked to yours if it is not already.

  13. The hair dryers onboard are not the same as what most people have at home but they work just fine. It may take you a bit longer to dry your hair but you are on vacation what's the rush. My only suggestion is to bring a rubber band as most have the button you need to hold down while using the dryer. Put the rubber band over the button and no need to hold it. Leave it on the dryer for the next person in the cabin when done. Had someone else do this a few cruises ago and thought it was a wonderful idea. Try to pass it on.

  14. We book most of our excursions outside of the cruise line. Some ports the excursion we want you can only do through the cruise lines so do book through them, some ports no excursion is required, and the rest we book on our own. No right or wrong answer for everyone or every port. Do your research and you can find what fits you best.

  15. Did you wife let them know that she lost the old one? Or just that she needed a new key? We have often gotten additional keys from guest services for our kids or others we are traveling with, that could only open the cabin door. Not doubting that they did it wrong, betting they most likely did, but good to have all the details.

Thanks for the heads up to clarify with guest services exactly what you are looking for.
