  1. Vegasgal, we will be sailing on this cruise with you. If your Steward doesn't make you a Towel Animal, let me know. I can come and make you a swan or an elephant. They used to have towel folding classes (not sure if they still do), but those two are the only ones I remember. DH has accused me of taking every class Princess offers, which isn't true. Sometimes the classes overlap and I can't.

    Lol. Thank you!

  2. You buy tokens from the machine in the laundry room using your cruise card.

My experience with the self serve laundry Deck 10 on Star last October was that the washing machine did not spin enough of the water out of the clothes and the Dryer did not get hot enough to dry the clothes even in two dry cycles. Had to finish drying several items by hanging them in the bathroom.

Thank you for the info. Glad I don’t have to come up with quarters. Lol

  3. I have never had a PVP, I either call Carnival or book with an on line booking agent for the extra perks. I called Carnival today and asked for a PVP. The rep said she has to submit an email and will hear from CCL in 48 hours. The rep says I can book for you. I told her we would like to cruise in March on any of 4 ships, balcony, B2B and same cabin. I said this could take quite a while, can you call me back? She said only PVP's can call you back. My question is, why the dog and pony show?

Why don’t you call your local travel agencies and talk to an agent? They will be available to you after hours should you have issues or need help.

  4. I'm planning a cruise with a few friends in high school and want to have my brother and his girlfriend be the legal chaperones. They will be 23 and 24 during the cruise. Their names would separately be on two rooms and we would just switch rooms when we get there so they would have their own room. The rest of us will be 17 and 18. I'm wondering if this is allowed to do and if so, what paper work we would all need?

Most cruise lines have a form that you can download from their website. I know NCL does and I’m pretty sure the others do. I would use that form and have it notarized even if it doesn’t mention it needing to be notarized , no need to take any chances

  5. Just got off the phone with Princess...was told if I wanted the water package I would have to now purchase the premium beverage package at $68.99 per day because the water bottle package has been discontinued. That would be some expensive water!

That's totally ridiculous and a ripoff.

  6. JF is spot on, and I can add a bit more. Princess uses the Aquatec Washing System. The machine does 350 pounds per load and at 160 degrees. They do not do dry cleaning any more. Soiled clothing are first spot cleaned and then put into the Aquatec Washing machines. After washing, all clothes are then steamed and pressed out. Rough on delicate and silk clothes. Ships crew clothing are synthetic, so fading is minimum. My color cotton tees did fade. I don't bring all new clothes.

Thanks! That wont work for my clothes.

Do the machines to do your own take quarters? The Carnival one I was on did.

  7. I just went to preorder some bottle water for my cruises and can't find it. I checked all 4 bookings and it's not there... did Princess get rid of that option?? It's under the onboard reservations - beverage packages?

I ordered and paid for 4 cases so hopefully I still get them. Water bottle option is gone from my personalizer also.

  8. We did the Ultimate Ship Tour on one of our cruises. The tour includes the laundry "room".

There were many very, very large machines for washing & drying. They all use HOT water. Each batch of passenger laundry is placed in a mesh bag and washed all together. Don't recall if they separate whites. We take "old" clothes (not tattered, just not brand new). If the laundry ruins it, we don't care.

If you have something that will fade, shrink or is delicate...DIY.

If it's just a couple of items, you could wash in the bathroom sink. If it's enough for a load, you can use the laundry room.

The dry cleaning isn't the "dry cleaning" that we think of on land. Someone may post how it's done, I don't remember at the moment.

Thank you very much! Doesn’t sound like I would use them for all my clothes. Maybe just socks and jeans.

  9. You can request anything you wish. Whether they will honor that request or not is a different issue....and my answer to that is "I don't know." As above' date=' self serve washers and dryers are available. If you use them, you know your laundry was done to your specifications.[/quote']

Thanks! I get free laundry so I prefer to use them IF they wash as I requested. [emoji4]

  10. On the Star on our Hawaii cruise last September, Traditional Dining was in the Amalfi Dining room on Fiesta Deck 6 Aft. There is no walkway access on Deck 6 beyond the Piazza. The only ways to get to the Amalfi Dining room are the aft stairways or two of the four aft elevators from Deck 7 (or above). You can't get there from Deck 5 without going up to Deck 7.

Starting at about 5:00 PM people start arriving and by the time they open for the 5:30 seating the little elevator lobby on Deck 6 aft is full and the crowd has spilled up the stairs and into the Deck 7 elevator lobby.

So just be prepared if you have early Traditional on the Star, particularly if you can't do stairs.

Thanks! We have 6:30. Hope its better by then.

  11. I've cruised on Princess, Royal, Celebrity, and Carnaval. We only had towel animals on Carnaval.

I guess it depends on your cabin steward cause i had them on every cruise I've been on. Never been on Princess or NCL. Will be sailing on the NCL Bliss in September.

  12. We had a great cruise! The Star had just come out of drydock so we were on for the repositioning prior to the holiday cruise (so 18 days in total). The staff were outstanding, lots of great activities, lots of special things going on for the holidays, and the ship itself was great - especially the brand new kids clubs! Already booked for next Christmas!

Glad you had a great cruise!

  13. We just got off the 15 day Hawaii cruise on Star.

We were in a Caribe balcony, half covered and half uncovered. You could see the balconies below but it wasn't a big deal.

We had no towel animals - I think this is dependant on cabin steward rather than ship. Sometimes on Princess we get them, sometimes we don't. We have been on Star before and got them. This time we didn't.

Star has a covered pool and several uncovered pools. None of the pools were particularly hot but they are all "heated". The hot tubs were all a good temperature for me!

Ships onboard were disappointing - the usual "boutique" where you can buy magnets, clothing, souvenirs, etc; a chocolate store that also had limited duty free alcohol and cigarettes, essentials you may have forgotten (Tylenol, toothpaste, etc); Effy jewellery store; the store that stocks the Clinique, prefumes, high end beauty products (the name escapes me). In addition there were constant "pop-up" stores in the dining room (outlet sales - clothing, stuff from old ports, etc) and on decks 6 and 7 (gold, t-shirts, port souvenirs). I wouldn't plan on getting too much shopping done onboard - even when I really TRY to spend money in the stores on the ship I fail miserably. There is just nothing much in there to buy!

Btw, did you enjoy the cruise?

  15. We'll be on the Star for the March 4 Hawaiian sailing; we took this same cruise last March.

This will be our 24th Princess cruise, and we've never had towel animals.

There are more than 3 shops.

There is a covered pool, but I don't know if it is heated.

We always book a Baja balcony, and you can see part of the balcony on the decks below.

There is plenty to do every day; Patters will be delivered to your mailbox each evening, and it lists all of the activities for the next day.

Also, the dining room is open for lunch on all sea days, but closed on port days if that matters to you. Breakfast and dinner are served every day whether it's a port or sea day.

Thanks! Is there a reason you always book a Baja balcony? Is it that bad seeing the balcony below you? So you cant look down and see ocean? Have to look out?

Weird no towel animals. All the other lines I've been on had them. Holland, Royal, Celebrity and Carnival. Wonder why they don’t do that. It's ok, just curious.

  16. I've never been on Princess so I have a few questions. I'll be on the Star balcony cabin 15 days. Do they put towel animals in your cabin? I was told they didn’t.

How many shops do they have on the ship? I was told 3.

Do they have enclosed pools or jacuzzis that are heated?

Do the cabins on the Baja deck have a blocked view of the ocean (looking down) by the premium balcony below on the Caribe deck?

Are there fun activities on board?

    Thanks!

  17. our first princess cruise is coming up and considering getting one coffee card. confused with the wording of "unlimited brewed coffee". My husband likes brewed and I like latte's. If he goes to get me a latte, can he get himself a brewed coffee at the same time, and is he just charged (or one punch) for the latte.

we are on a 28 day cruise, and would prefer not to have daily charges for one or two coffees a day on our acct - we are not getting a drink package.

if hubby goes to get a coffee for himself, gets a brewed, do they punch the card ?

    thank you for any explaination

I might be wrong but regular brewed coffee is available in the cafe/buffet area for free. Specialty coffee is not free. I was considering getting the coffee card also until I saw the prices of the coffee. They aren’t very inexpensive especially compared to Starbucks.

I searched for coffee prices online for princess star and finally came across a menu they were around two dollars and under. I figured it wasn’t worth getting the coffee card.

    Here is something i found

  18. None of that is effective against droplet spread viruses like the flu. Those measures are done to reduce transmission of contact type spread, like norovirus.

There's not much the staff can do , aside from monitoring staff and passengers for obvious signs of illness. They certainly can't require everyone to go around wearing N95 respirators.

Just follow the CDC recommendations: ://www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/preventing.htm

I heard on the news that you can get it by breathing!

  19. My DH doesn't even get to see his packed clothing until he gets on the ship. I tend to purchase some "new" clothes for him that he would likely complain about and say that he doesn't need. However, once onboard, either he goes naked or wears the clothes that I've packed. He doesn't mind because he doesn't have to think about packing or unpacking -- it is all taken care of for him!

Note: I have never packed jeans in our luggage. There are plenty of cotton slacks without having to pack heavy jeans.

Geez, i thought my DH was bad! He packs the night before. I then do my work on what he packs. I start packing weeks before. However clothes go in, get removed several times. Lol.

  20. We leave in 10 days and I’m forcing my husband to, at least, pile up the clothes he plans to take so I can “edit” his selections. Left to his own devices, he would have no dress shirts, no belts, and insufficient underwear in the pile.

Although we are gold on Regent, I am uncertain whether white jeans are acceptable after six. They are pressed and belted but they are denim. What say ye, fashion police?

Lol. Thanks for the laugh. Sounds like my house before a trip.
