Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I've started doing a bit of research, but am struggling with this. We land at KEF at 6am. We are planning on spending the day in Reykjavik exploring on foot. Looking for suggestions of a hotel or airbnb somewhere in town that will let us at least drop our luggage super early, and even better, allow us a super early check in (obviously with a fee), so we can get a couple hours of sleep before exploring. Any suggestions??
  2. Sorry ...NCL Bliss at Long Beach/San Pedro
  3. We just disembarked NCL at Long Beach...we were the first group off where you put your luggage out the night before (so not self assist)...called our color at 8:15, off the ship, in a cab and arrived at LAX by 9 am. It was Sunday, so minimal traffic, but it was crazy fast. Just a note...an Uber was $119 and a taxi was $65...for 4 of us and 4 big bags.
  4. We are looking to do some sort of cooking class in Puerto Vallarta. I've done some research and found a few classes, but wanted to see if anyone has actually done a class they would or wouldn't recommend it. Thanks so much!
  5. We always book our cruises online, on our own, but will be on a cruise next month and are wondering if you get any better deal by booking a future cruise while on board a ship. We've never even looked into and were just wondering. Thanks for any insight anyone has
  6. We just booked a trip on the Bliss in December....we usually do balcony, but were trying to save some money this time and ended up with a oceanview cabin at the very front of the ship on deck 13...13102. Anyone stay in this cabin (or a similar one before)? Pros, Cons? We love the higher decks, so weren't thrilled with the idea of a 5th deck room, but maybe it's better than the forward facing one??
  7. We've never used wifi when cruising before, but our oldest will need to be working remotely a couple of days while we're on a cruise this winter...Bahamas or Caribbean (not sure if location matters). Anyway, for those who have paid for a wifi package, does it work well enough to work...more than just checking email and social media 🙂? He's planning to work on the at sea days, so using data in port isn't an option.
  8. We just sailed on Serenade over New Years. We made MTD reservations for every night. There was a line...but it rarely took more than 5-10 minutes... except lobster night...that was nuts and we waited about 30 minutes with a reservation. The reservation line always went faster than the walk up line. I didn't want dinner at 5:30 or 8, so decided waiting a few minutes to be seated each evening was worth eating when we wanted to.
  9. We took a cab for $5 a person to Radio Beach. Brought our snorkel gear and enjoyed a beautiful day. Several vendors selling drinks, food, and renting chairs. Easy to grab a cab back to the ship when we were finished. Cheap, fun day that got us away from the cruise crowd for a bit.
  10. We just finished our first cruise in years with RC...there didn't seem to be any enforcement of a dress code...shorts, flip flops, tank tops, gym shorts, sweatpants.... everyone was seated no matter what the dress code stated for the night.
  11. Thanks for all the responses...I was hoping it was just the hours on this ship, because other than this, the trip has been great. Knowing this is normal for RC, combined with the challenge of finding clean eating options for our health conscious family member (all the protein options and veggies in the buffet seem to be heavily seasoned, breaded, sauced or fried...I know we can request simple foods, but it's a hassle and takes a long time for them to make it, even when we request it ahead of time). We'll probably go back to NCL and Celebrity where eating options are easier for us. Disappointed because other than the food, we have enjoyed our trip.
  12. We are finishing up our first Royal Caribbean cruise in many years...we usually cruise with NCL and Celebrity, but it was a good deal with a good itinerary. We've been really happy with the experience except for the times the buffet is open. Afternoon is 11:30-3:30, then 6-9. So, when you come back from a shore excursion mid afternoon, there's no food (except for a handful of desserts and a couple of tiny sandwiches with really long lines with one poor person trying to serve everyone or room service, which costs $8 plus a tip). And there's not much except pizza and dessert after 9. Is this the same on all RC ships?? Or just the one we're on??
  13. We are just returning from a week on the Solstice...she's showing her age in a few areas, but the crew has been amazing! While not the newest and brightest ship, I wouldn't hesitate to sail on her again. We had a great trip...good food, good drinks, friendly crew, every need was met with a smile.
