  1. IF you cruise solo - NCL is one of THE BEST lines to do so. They have Solo Groups where a designated NCL employee gathers the solo travelers before dinner at a bar for a quick head count and meet & greet type gathering with coupons, gifts and prizes, etc. . THEN they take the group and walk to the dining room and we pass the LONG line of people waiting and we get priority seating. It has been an absolute BLAST to be part of this group. Sharing life and previous cruise experiences, and what you did that day, etc.
  2. IDK what cruise lines you have been calling ... but: NCL doesn't have dinner seating times. I travel alone almost all of the time and I tell the dining room when I enter that I am open to sitting with others OR having others sit with me. I don't plan it before hand and I have had several great people seated with me. Carnival - I typically get 'My Time Dining' and say the same when I arrive at the dining room.
  3. 7 or 8 ... It was a transatlantic from NY to Amsterdam. It was wonderful ... I LOVE using the ship. The weather was rough, rain with high seas. The doors had to be locked to keep people from going out on deck. I LITERALLY had a woman say to me ... "WHY are they locking the doors?" I replied "Because the decks are wet and people can fall and break bones." (ELDERY clientele) She LITERALLY said to me "SOoooo ... they get airlifted to a hospital ... no big deal!" ????? The Capt. had announced that morning we were 450 +/- miles from land. I asked her ... "What helicopter do you know that can make a 900 mile RT for a cruise ship with a person with broken bones??" SMH
  4. I have done guarantee cabin twice ... and both times were FANTASTIC. Once were 2 cruises b2b, and I did have to move cabins. But the steward packed my things and moved them for me and it was perfect. I would do it any time to save significant money.
  5. I booked both cruises at the same time. I waited until almost the last minute - 7 days before sailing - and condition was BOTH cruises HAD to be available .... I was lucky ... they were. I was in cabins that cruise ship chose and I DID have to move from Deck 5 in one cabin to Deck 8 in another cabin. I packed and steward took my luggage and set up my next cabin. AMAZING service. BUT usually people don't have to move cabins. It's because I waited until so close to sail date.
  6. In 1982 I paid $500 for a QUAD with a couple of friends and 1 we didn't know. Woman at work was organizing the cruise .... about 35 of us .... LOL. The 4th girls was a friend of a friend of a .... I was 19 and on the Carnival Mardi Gras Boston to Bermuda. I was hooked after that first cruise.
  7. I LOVE doing both ... Grew up camping in a 24' bumper pull and my ex-husb and I had a 45' Voltage Toy Hauler that we lived in traveling from his work project to project for 5 years. My first cruise was when I was 19 years old ... Boston to Bermuda on the original Carnival Mardi Gras. I was hooked from day 1.
  8. Thank you for your kind words. NOTHING untoward happened and nothing was taken, although, if I hadn't been there, I do think some of my jewelry would have been taken. I don't always put it in the safe. Often I drop it in top drawer when I return. BUT I don't take any real stuff on vacations. I should say 'when I got up' ... I hadn't fallen asleep yet ... But Princess NOT handling it was beyond my limit.
  9. I was NOT asleep ... I had JUST laid down ... and he most certainly did NOT knock on my door. But thanks for sticking up for sketchy employee who had NO business being in my cabin. It was NOT my steward!
  10. It was October 2018 on Princess. The partial charter was a group of 300+ followers of Lt. Joe Kenda/Homicide Hunter - TV show. REAL life cop/Lt. who had solved 387 murders out of 400 or so in his career. Yes - I was DEF part of this charter. We had locations reserved solely for our group for a set period of time throughout the cruise. We had halloween costumes but so did most of the other cruisers. We pretty much did everything in a 'group' ... so you could tell us apart from other cruisers. It was SO MUCH FUN ... but Princess is not for me and I will NEVER cruise on them again. I laid down one afternoon to take a nap before dinner and a steward (NOT my steward) came in my cabin with a passkey and was petrified when I woke up and ran him out of my cabin.. I reported this to Guest Services and requested a talk with Security and NOTHING was done. I asked repeatedly to talk to someone and NOTHING was done about it. NEVER again.
  11. I have never had an absolute aft balcony cabin. BUT I have read people post that these sometimes have a fine black soot all over the balconies. Just FYI
  12. YES absolutely a GREAT price .... Wow. That's WITH taxes, port fees AND gratuities? Really great price.
  13. LOL ... Yes, I took the statement as the flight TO the cruise is non-stop. The flight home AFTER the cruise is non-stop. There is the 'both ways'.
  14. Also - does RCL require BOTH people/ALL people in the cabin buy the drink package if one person buys it?? THAT is something to consider also. VERY expensive with grats on top of cost.
  15. Short 2 - 4 day cruises are good way to bump up your loyalty/reward level with cruise lines. If you live in FL and take off out of Miami where you can drive/take car to port ... they're great!
  16. Call the cruise line you are looking to travel with. They can give you the most accurate and definitive answer.
  17. My opinion ... NO ... you do not wait for the other table mates. People don't show up for dinner and they don't always notify dining room. And your plans - shows, performers, etc. - are YOUR plans ... work your schedule.
  18. Thank you. This is a very nice reply. I am just getting mixed answers ... Some are saying YES NCL does this and the cruisers/cabin residents - for lack of a better phrase - never sees it on the itinerary. But I'll look into it some more.
  19. Hello all, I would like to have my friend's cabin decorated for their 25 Wedding Anniversary. I want to order this and pay for it myself. BUT I don't want the cruisers / cabin residents to know I am doing this. I would like it to be a surprise. Is there a way that I can order this as a 'gift', pay for it myself, but NOT have it added to their itinerary so they see it and know about it? Thanks!!
