Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. OP here. Just glad I got my question answered before we digressed. 🙂 Cheers!
  2. Thanks for this. I have heard that WiFi is spotty on the ships. I have been cruising since before WiFi was ever publicly available and I never missed it. The one thing I will likely miss at sea is being able to text my kids but I don't care about posting to social media or steaming a video and I'm certainly not conducting stock trades so I could probably do without the WiFi. In that case, the Princess Plus package is not worth the cost.
  3. Hello, I am sailing on the Crown Princess next January and when I log into the portal on the web, I am bombarded with a request to upgrade to the Princess Plus Plan for an additional $60 per day. I don't drink alcohol so I thought there would be no point, and I started to look at the Non-Alcohol Beverage Package. Here's what I found. Ala Carte: Non-Alcohol Beverage Package: $247 Crew Appreciation: $112 WiFi (I heard it is $15/day): $105 TOTAL: $464 Upgrade to Princess Plus Plan: Everything on non-alcohol Bev. package Alcoholic drinks up to $15 (would not use) Crew Appreciation WiFi for 1-device 2 specialty dessert per day 2 fitness classes per cruise Unlimited juice bar TOTAL: $420 Seems like a no-brainer to go with the Princess Plus. Is that a good price on that package? Is WiFi $15/day if purchased by itself? Thanks for any tips. Eric
  4. Just booked a Mexican Riviera cruise for next January and I was looking at both the Non-Alcoholic drink package and the Classic Soda package. I can't see spending $35.39 on the NA package but I think I will try the Classic Soda for $17.69. I don't drink soda but if I can get club soda or seltzer, and I would go for a mocktail or two. Even I only got 2-3 smoothies/mocktails a day that is only $6-$9 each. I figure that's the price of vacation. If I do want to order a cappuccino in the dining room is that an extra charge? Also, I assume I can get water, tea, coffee, iced tea, etc at no charge even without a drink package. Is that correct?
  5. I've decided to book my cruise and select the stateroom I want. The deals are really good right now anyway that I think I would kick myself if prices went up. Including my airfare, I am paying less per day than I would to stay in any number of hotels at the beach near my home. And that is with no food.
  6. Final payment for both these sailings is in October. I do have a cabin reserved on the 10-day with a fully refundable $100 hold but thought I might get better prices if they are trying to fill cabins. I can pay for either cruise at their regular rate, and I don't want to sound cheap but if I can save a few hundred bucks, that pays for my flight, or part of a spa treatment.
  7. Hello, I am planning on sailing solo for the first time next year and cruising for the first time in many years. I am considering a couple of January cruises down the Mexican coast. One is a 7-night from Los Angeles (Discovery Princess) and the other is a 10-night from San Francisco (Crown Princess). Because I'm sailing alone, I am planning on an inside cabin. Wondering if it is a good idea to book now, or if I can get a better deal if I wait until closer to the sailing date. Right now I can get inside cabins (single occupancy) for $1,026 (7-night) and $1,671 (10-night). Does Princess discount unsold cabins as a cruise approaches? When do the deals start? Am I just better off booking the cruise and cabin I want right now? Thanks in advance.
  8. Phil, Thank you for the insight on the spa program on Azamara ships. I will definitely pass along the word.
  9. My daughter and soon-to-be son-in-law are getting married this July then sailing on the Quest from Venice to Istanbul for their honeymoon. I have visited the Azamara site and found the Bon Voyage & Onboard Gifts page and am wondering if anyone has had experience with this service on Azamara? I was thinking champagne & strawberries, some flowers, and spa credit. Spa is pretty safe as it won't spoil or wilt. Are flower arrangements fresh and well done? Are there any other items on the list that people know are good? Thanks in advance, Eric
  10. Great suggestion. I am very mobile so BART may be a great option. Thanks!
  11. Hello, It has been many years since I last cruised and apparently so long since I have posted on Cruise Critic that only my recent posts are showing. I consider myself a ReNewbie because much has changed since I last cruised but I am recently single and looking to try a vacation alone. I am currently booked on the 10-day, Mexican Riviera cruise out of San Francisco in January of 2024 on the Crown Princess. Based upon that, here are some of my questions... I have booked an interior cabin as a single. Currently in C106 on the Caribe deck. It looked a bit larger than other interiors on the floor plan but that could be deceptive. Anyone know anything about these cabins? Has anyone sailed out of San Francisco? Is the port easy to navigate? Should I get a cruise shuttle from airport or hire my own taxi? It appears as thought Princess puts you into boarding groups. Do you know how early you can arrive to board the ship? If you arrive prior to your boarding group what happens? I may be on a flight that gets me to SF 5-6 hours before the ship departs. Any other insights would be great. I think this will be the largest ship I have sailed so that will also be a new adventure for me. Thank you in advance. Eric
