  1. Solo travelers pay double for the cruise fare only (also known as a 100% single supplement) and are charged the single per person rate for the port charges. Having said that, there are some Princess sailings that have an abundance of empty cabins and don't charge a 100% single supplement. If a sailing doesn't sell a certain number of cabins by a certain date before sailing, Princess tends to lower the single supplement for solos. The single supplement can be as low as 0% to 10% in addition to the per person double occupancy cruise fare.
  2. If you have an iPhone, you can call other people with an iPhone through FaceTime Audio and use the ship's wifi.
  3. Same check-in window listed for all passengers listed in the travel summary. Even when passengers had to select boarding groups, the earliest groups available was 11:00am. Most ports had check-in open at 10:00 am and let those that were there at that hour check-in and wait in a boarding lounge until the ship was ready for them to board.
  4. It's the Medallion Class App that has helped speed up check-in. Passengers can fill in their passengers details and accept the passage contract pre-cruise in the App. If you can complete the pre-cruise check-in steps in the App, the port agents just verify your identity with your docs and fetch your Medallion if you didn't already have it shipped to you. If the App is glitchy for and you cannot complete check-in, port agents can do every step there or complete the steps you've failed to complete. Everything is electronic and no need for a paper boarding pass.
  5. The best time to call the trunk line is after 5:00 p.m. Pacific time on Fridays. Hold time is minimal. It's still the call center abroad that answers. Once, I kept requesting that my issue be escalated until finally the foreign agent put the call on 3 way with a Princess agent in the U.S. The Princess agent from the U.S. said that her job was only to give instruction, and it was still the foreign agent's responsibility to make the change to the booking because the Princess agent from the U.S. had no access to POLAR. It seems like the decision making authority is given to the Princess agents from the U.S., if the problem ever escalates that far.
  6. The entire My Preferences section should be removed. No one from Princess ever pays attention to the info you populate there. Might help to speed up the app in the tiniest way.
  7. Sorry to hear about your Medallions. Nothing Princess can do now; too late to remake and reship them. Hope the culprit gets caught and pays the time. I remember an news expose a while back about how thieves in LA were able to pilfer though carriers package freight cars and leave the opened packages on the side of tracks. As a tip, Vancouver is a port you want to be late for. Let everyone embark before you and your check-in, security, and immigration experience will be a breeze.
  8. Been on the receiving end of this when Princess still used cruise cards. I was inside my cabin and I heard the cabin door knob trying to be turned. I looked through the peephole and saw a woman using a walker trying to intrude. Mind you, I don't have anyone that uses a walker in my travel party. I didn't call security because didn't think she was enough of a threat. I did, however, open the door and the woman turned beet red and looked mortified. She profusely apologized and explained that she must've gotten her cabin confused from the last cruise she was on. She recognized me on a sea day and introduced me to her husband to which he replied, "so you're the one my wife's trying to have an affair with!" in jest.
  9. I agree with the Horizon Court, specifically the Horizon Bistro side. That's where I like to work in the afternoon. Crowd dies down by 14:00. The Internet connection is strong. Food is near and you can grab a table by a window. The outdoor seating to the left and right of the Horizon Terrace and can be quiet, but using this area depends on the weather and wind. Another place I like to work is Crown Grill Bar during the day. Hard to get seating sometimes. Sometimes have to worry about nosy passengers that ask why you are working on a cruise because it's on the main corridor on Deck 7. Before selecting a seat, look up at the ceiling for a white plastic box with a small blue light illuminated. These are the routers and you'll receive the strongest Wi-Fi signal by situating yourself near one of these.
  10. The info engraved is used depending on the situation in port. In San Juan and La Rochelle, the port security guards asked to see ID and matched the name to the name engraved on the Medallion before allowing passengers to enter the cruise terminal. In Santorini, I experienced a day where there were 2 Princess ships anchored and ship security checked the ship name on Medallions to make sure they were in the correct line for the tender ride back to the ship.
  11. For me, the Medallions become garbage after a cruise. I know some people like to save them as a memento. Since there's a battery inside, are we allowed to toss them in the trash? In some states, that's prohibited. Being able to reuse/reactivate them would be a nice eco friendly feature. Never had this problem with a cruise card because it's one trip though the shredder.
  12. Medallions can't be reused. Your name, ship name, and embarkation date are laser engraved on them. I presume that Princess engraves the ship name and embarkation date so that port security can check to make sure you are a passenger before allowing you entrance into the Terminal. This was the case in San Juan and Ensenada; passengers had to show their Medallion to gain entry into the terminal complex. Once in Cabo, ship security at the tender area shoreside were giving an ocular inspection to Medallions because the tablets used for passenger control ran out of battery and a new replacement hadn't come from the ship. The only time a Medallion can be "re-used" is if you are a on a B2B cruise. You won't be reissued a Medallion at the start of the new segment and you will use the the same Medallion for both segments. Even if your Medallion dies during the 2nd segment, the replacement Medallion issued will still have your embarkation date from the 1st segment engraved on it.
  13. Too extreme of an example. Won’t say it will never happen, but a extreme change like that would for sure ruffle a lot of feathers. As has been said before, all the major cruise lines have engaged in this practice. Some a lot sooner than others. I remember when RCCL became the first major cruise line to start charging for room service in 2017. Lots of upset passengers, but the storm has passed, ships are still full, and they are continuing to cutback and raise prices of fares and amenities. You may not accept it, but the changes are happening. Take it or leave it.
  14. New normal in cruising...Don't expect to get what you paid for. Cruise lines will arbitrarily change included amenities and/or start charging for them. An arbitrary date will be chosen and grandfathering existing reservations won't happen. Maybe cruising won't be for you in the future.
  15. If you are bringing your own nightlight, make sure to bring one that is battery operated or has non polarized plugs. The only socket in the bathroom doesn't allow for polarized plugs and has a cover which might hinder your ability to plug one in.
  16. The décor is definitely dated. This is true for all grand class ships that are 20 years old or approaching. Wish Princess replaced the busy patterns with more sold colors or more modern patterns and got rid of the murals during the refurb. Also wish that they did more to cabins aside from changing to Princess beds and linens. The all the mirrors in the cabin are a dead give away of the ship's age. Ship cabins are no longer decorated in this manner. Celebrity changed the décor of their older ship's like the Millennium, during refurb which makes their older ships more in tune with contemporary times. Also it's worth a look at the P&O Pacific Adventure, which was the former Golden Princess; P&O's refurb made the public spaces more contemporary. The Emerald is still in fine condition and can't complain about the promenade deck.
  17. Those are varietals available to the public. Most likely, Princess is using what Lavazza manufactures for food service. Also, the varietals you’ve listed are for espresso, so not sure that they would be using these for brewed coffee in the buffet.
  18. Some of the specialty cocktails unique to Good Spirits have prices over $15. If this is the case, he'll be charged the difference.
  19. IC will have bottled water as well as the bars. There are 2 sizes of bottled water on Princess. The 500ml size is included with packages ($2.25 with no package) and are available at all bars. The 1.5 liter size is not included with packages and are $5 each and not all bars stock this size. .
  20. Disregard that email. No more arrival times; just show up.
  21. No matter how cruise lines market their packages, there will be some cruisers, like me, who will always take the standard fare. If it's not included I can do without or can pay for it piecemeal. The only time I've purchased amenity packages from Princess is when they've been on sale, i.e. there was a 50% promo for Princess packages for cruises booked through Future Cruise, so for $30 pppd, it was a no brainer. As has been stated before by some, myself included, Princess cruise fare and package pricing is still lower than it's mass market competitors. Don't like the all inclusive pricing of more niche cruise lines because you don't get rebated back what you don't use. For example on Viking Ocean, passengers won't get a rebate on unused shore excursions which is why the vast majority of passengers take them. What would get me to react more would be if they were to charge for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the MDR and buffet or for cabin steward service. Then the standard base fare isn't all that it's cracked up to be. EasyCruise, related to Europe's EasyJet airline, tried a concept where there was a base fare for transportation and accommodation and an upcharge for every thing else, but it didn't last for too long.
  22. Was checking on the status of the EZAir ticketing status of my parent's reservation through the Cruise Personalizer and browsed other details of their booking. It seems that the Princess package amenities descriptions have finally caught up with the recent changes under the Onboard Services tab.
  23. 2 is closer to 0. Pretty soon, there will be 0 Casual Dining included with any of the packages.
  24. This offer is not new and has been offered since the beginning of the year. It's run by One Exchange Network (O.N.E.) Don't know of anyone who has purchased a future cruise package. The hotel stay sounds too good to be true. The hotels exist, but the dates might not jive with your schedule. Also probably best to ask to see a list of affiliated hotels that are available before biting the bullet. I was one of the fortunate ones (NOT!) to have gotten the cold calls at the beginning of the year. Talked about multiple times. The thread below is one of the first that comes up in the search. It is legit and is recognized by Princess on their official website.
  25. Speaking of a pre-pandemic, late night, check-in experience in Quebec... Yes, you can check-in and embark that late at night. You will have to carry all of your suitcases onto the ship. There will be a port worker before security asking to see your cruise docs (have a print out or an electronic copy handy) and WHITI document, and they will radio the ship to make sure that you are really a passenger. After port security, you will have plead your case again to ship security on the gangway. After which you will be directed to Guest Services to check-in.
