Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Just sailed on Legend out of Norfolk first week of April. Birth Certficate was same line as everyone else and fast
  2. Had digital debarkation on the Legend a week ago. Got a notification on Friday to pick my schedule for Sunday morning. I chose express debarkation and snagged a Group B spot for 8:05am-8-30am. At 7:42 am they announced groups A and B could debark. It was all pretty seemless. Scanned my sail card like normal and off I went into the terminal. Let me also say Norfolk is on top of their game. Embark and Debark both went smooth with no long waits.
  3. Just curious if this also affects non alcohol for those with Drinks on Us Everywhere. Love the special coffees, milkshakes, and soda. Honestly, I don't know of any new Virginia laws regarding this. I follow new Virginia laws pretty closely. For instance, there was an effort this year to pass a bill to allow cruise ship casinos to operate while in Virginia waters that failed to pass. So, if you are used to the casino turning on quickly leaving Baltimore don't be surprised. It takes much longer leaving Norfolk according to a friend. There is also a law that specifically allows casinos in Virginia to give away alcohol. Sounds more like a move to get back some of that $100 on board credit they are giving people. Possibly avoiding an ABC fee as well, but that doesn't make complete sense as they will be selling drinks.
  4. Fyi, for those wondering how Norfolk plans to handle parking for multiple cruise ships. I looked at their website and it appears Carnival cruisers will use the usual Cedar Grove lot. RC cruises will use the MacArthur Center South Garage with more details to come. https://www.norfolk.gov/6030/Cruises It also sounds like both cruise lines are running buses between Baltimore and Norfolk, so some will park in Baltimore. Best case drive between the 2 is 3 hours. Worst case is 5 hours like today.

  6. Update corncerning the cruise leaving on March 31st. Carnival is offering shuttle buses from Baltimore to Norfolk for those who need transportation on the 31st to embark onto the ship in Norfolk. It gave me details in an email as I am going on that cruise this Sunday. Fortunately in my case I'm in Virginia, so my drive became a bit shorter as now I'll just drive to Norfolk. I was looking forward to the part where the ship goes down the Chesapeake Bay though. This all threw my weekend plans off a bit, but I'll be fine. My main concern is with the loss of life and regional impact from this tragedy. I hope that there aren't many shortages from the import and exports getting backed up. As a Virginian I hope the buses have the good sense to avoid I-95 between Richmond and DC. Traffic nightmare. There are ALWAYS traffic jans. Even on Sunday. US 301 is better option. There is also a 2 lane section of I-64 between Richmond and Norfolk that can get bad if a bad accident blocks both lanes, but is usually smooth sailing.
