  1. This is the first that I have heard of a steep drop off. That concerns me. Are some areas better than others?
  2. Am I correct? Can we take a cab to Divi Little Bay Resort and spend the day using their facilities as long as we eat and drink there? I am fairly sure that I read the cab fare is $4.00pp each way Can/should we make reservations? Many thanks.
  3. Thank you both so much. I am not really an art follower but do find his paintings interesting. Will see if we can look into your suggestions. We will look for Cafe Nino for a lunch for quick snack. Ellen
  4. Sorry, forget about the Cezanne exhibit. I misread.
  5. Thank you so much Hank. We are actually on a tour where we are just driven to the town/city and then given instructions as to where and when to meet the bus again. The tour info does state that there will be no commentary on this tour. Now, I guess if the leader is the type who likes to give info, they may but really we are on our own except for the transportation. We prefer DIY also but we are now older and need the security. Those were the days when we braved local transit and driving a rental car. Really the best way to do it as far as we are concerned. No, I am definitely not a shopper but don't mind a short time of wandering in little shops. And, we love to eat al fresco and people watch. Definitely Old Town for us. What do you mean All Things Cezanne? Is there an exhibit?
  6. We are on a Med cruise and will have the day in Marseilles next week. We have booked a DIY tour through Princess Cruises which takes us by bus to Lourmarin for a couple of hours and then on to Aix-En-Provence for a few hours and then back to the ship. We enjoy meandering through European towns and cities. Anyone done this tour? Which is the better side of the bus for good scenery? Suggestions for our time in both these cities? Thanks.
  7. I like this! Because you don't agree, does not give you the right to put down someone else's experience.. Thank you SunshineCoast.
  8. Good story MeHeartCruising! Thank you roger b. Lucky you living in Mallorca. We spent 2 weeks in Mallorca several years ago. Saw most of the island and have to say that it is beautiful. We enjoyed great food, great weather and lots of wonderful experiences.
  9. Turns out that I have one more question re this discussion. We have traveled extensively in Europe over the past 50 years but not for the past 6 or 7 years. I was wondering if the practice of tipping has changed. For a taxi fare of E39, it used to be considered a proper tip to bring the amount up to E40, for instance. Is that still the custom or is it now more like North America where 10% is considered the least and 15-20% is expected.
  10. Thank you both. Fixed fare is good because then there is no confusion.
  11. Would anyone know the approximate charge for a taxi for 2 with luggage from airport to cruise port in Barcelona? Thanks.
  12. I am embarrassed to say that I read the original post incorrectly! Just assumed (never just assume!) that it was a question re an Alaska cruise. Pay no attention unless you are going on an Alaskan cruise! LOL!
  13. It depends on the ship. We sailed on one of the Holland America Line ships and it left Vancouver and sailed between the mainland and Vancouver Island. We sailed at 4 pm and since it was end of June, there was daylight for many hours. The scenery along there was stupendous! We were on the starboard side, facing the mainland and I would definitely recommend that side. If you are on one of the larger ships that sails on the west side of the island, it might be different. I highly recommend picking a ship that sails inside.
  14. Since you walked back to the port from Genoa, I am assuming that it is possible to walk into the city to sightsee on our own. Is that correct? Is there a shuttle service at all? Thanks for not only your reply to these questions, Ken, but most definitely for this wonderful Live Report. We are on the same itinerary - Barcelona to Rome in September so of much interest to us.
  15. Thanks for all the responses. Much appreciated. I am thinking Symphony.
  16. Just booked the Regal Princess and want to make dinner reservations. Which do you prefer and why - Symphony or Concerto dining room? Thanks.
  17. Looking at a cabin on Deck 9 aft. Any problem with crew smoking in this area? Thanks.
  18. Thanks for doing this. Very interested although we are actually not on the Sky Princess until November for a 14 day Caribbean trip. Hope you have a great first cruise!
  19. Hello Fellow River Cruisers. I can't find information or reviews on Cruise Critic for Crucevito. I did find some reviews on another couple of sites but since I use CC a lot for our ocean cruises, I prefer your feedback. Has anyone been on this ship, on this cruise line? The itinerary, Amsterdam to Basel sounds interesting and the price is right. We do not need luxury but do want clean, pleasant surroundings with good food nd nice staff. Anyone?
