  1. We also just received our notice of the Hawaii Konsingdam trip in January being cancelled, but on the HAL website, it still shows the same trip in November as going. It shows January as all being 7 day Mexican cruises. I really don't understnad that. If thye can go in November, why not in January. Any one have an answer for that?

  2. We have done several penthouses on Holland but not the Konsingdam, however we are booked on the Konsingdam for the Hawaii trip in January. Who knows what it will be like now, but  in the  past as a penthouse passenger,  they escorted you to your room from the dock. You start out feeling very special. If there are any lines at any time for any event or to get your passport or anything like that, someone from the Neptune lounge will come get you and walk you to the front of the line. When asked your room number anytime, everyone seems to bend over even more than normal to grant your every wish. Dinner in your cabin is really nice. They will serve you and your guests and not bring every thing all at one time. If you choose to do an open house, they will provide- free of charge, a very nice spread of  food decoratively displayed and plenty of glasses, dishes and silver ware. No alcohol but  everything else. Breakfast is now in club orange on the Konsingdam, I believe, instead of the Pinnacle, but just a much nicer smaller venue with more personalized service. Again, if it is, as it was.  We are in a Neptune suite for the trip so perhaps we will meet in the Neptune lounge.. We also get the club orange restaurant and actually the Neptune lounge concierges will provide snacks for us if we give a party and we usually do. When we have had penthouses, we sometimes provide the wine, but often we suggest for our guests to bring a bottle and everyone is happy to, just to get to see a penthouse.  Enjoy it, it is fun . Hope to see you on board.

  3. We have booked the January 9th,2021 24 night Koningsdam from San Diego  and hoping My son and his wife will join us for the 17 day Hawaii portion.. I will be interested to hear yourthoughts on the November cruise Pete. You are always so thorough.

I am not quite sure how to post pictures on here, but i have recently learned how to send photos on email ( I just recently learned how to get emails on my phone)so I sent two to your email. I have very few pictures of me on my phone, mainly the grand kids, 🙂  but i did have some pictures of my husband and myself from the world cruise when we met your mom and I  realized i could take a picture of that and sent to you. I feel so almost "techy. "

  5. Thanks for your latest post kindergirl. I had been following this board with keen interest then when copper posted their picture from California and I realized I knew them for our 2018 world cruise with them, it all made even more sense. Your mom is a jewel. SO sweet and kind and soft spoken, but stubborn  and independent. I could so picture her not wanting to bother you yet being so grateful to you. We were down the hall from them and we played bride together. Please tell her Ruth from Texas is so glad they made it home and how fortunate i think they are to have you for such a loving and caring daughter.

  6. I just did this yesterday. You call ship services at HAL and you pay the gratuities with them. Real Simple. I had called in on the mainline and they transferred me but gave me the number so I could call again for another trip..

Ship Services number is 800-541-1576. You will probably be on hold for awhile but I always have things I can do while on hold. It saved my TA from having to do this and I received the email confirmation within 15 minutes and I had three different cruises.

  7. We just booked last week so we thought we were lucky to get two cabins. We would stay for the next leg but there are no cabins available at this time. I don't blame anyone but me.Our TA is trying but other people that booked sooner should certainly not be asked to move.

Deepwater are you suggesting maybe we should have a leak on the last morning????? :classic_biggrin::classic_cool:

oh no that was my thought.  !!!!!!!!:classic_biggrin:

  8. Thanks for that advice. I love to cruise and see new ports but I am also very happy staying on board when everyone else is gone... Of course on a turn around day it won't be quiet. 🙂.

It has taken awhile but my husband has finally gotten comfortable going by himself on a tour. When we did the world cruise last year, I had planned to get off and do a 4 day safari with him although it was not something I was especially looking forward to. I got sick a few days before and knew I would just be miserable so I stayed on the ship by myself... (well, with 300 or 400 hundred other people as most did get off for safaris). I was fine and didn't feel like I missed anything. I want to see Japan and I am very excited about going there, but I am not one that has to see everything and even if I do see a lot, I forget what I saw and where I saw it. 😉 My husband however, wants to see and do it all. One reason cruising works so well for us. So if I miss a port, as long as I get to see a lot of other Japan, I will be fine. I love being spoiled on the ship so if I stay on board after having to disembark, it will not be a hardship for me, but thank you so much for your input.

  9. For some reason, I have heard several horror stories about embarking and disembarking in Vancouver. We have done both and not had major problems. I guess it is like everything else. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. The Nieuw Amsterdam is one ship I had problems with too. It didn't make me want to try it again or any of the other large or large ships.  I am sure that it helped that  you knew enough to keep asking. I have found that a yes from the crew is quite often meaningless and I love the crew. They just always want to please so badly so they say yes and sometimes I am sure they are wondering  what we are even asking. I will definetly keep this in mind. It helps that the concierge in the Neptune are usually much better at understanding the English language and I can communicate my concerns with them.   Thanks so much for your input.

  10. Like everything, I think it must vary from ship to ship and crew to crew. Roz what ship were you on?

We will be on the Westerdam, and our turn around Port  is Tokyo.  We really want to see Tokyo but sounds like maybe I should let my husband go on a tour and I should hang around to see it all gets sorted properly   and that we can get back on easily.  What a pain this seems like it will be, but how fortunate we are to have this as a problem and not something more serious. Thanks everyone,,,

  11. Oh yes, I look at both segment each day as well as the long one, and my TA has not quite gotten on her knees to beg , but... MY TA is actually across the hall from HAL and they have a lot influence with AHL but couldn't get any magic so far. I will keep hoping. My husband is tall and he is never comfortable in the chairs in the cabins so he goes to the Neptune a  ot to read, so close to the Neptune is also a factor. I know, PICKY, PICKY. Right now it is what are the options we can live with.  🙂

  12. You are definitely  a better packer than me if you were able to do it in 20 minutes.

I hang a lot and the closets are great on the Westerdam, so that does help a lot. I was really hoping they would just move the drawers. I guess I was just dreaming...

Thanks everyone.  I am still going to hold my fingers for one cabin for both segments but.....

  13. so they did not take the drawers from one cabin to another? Loose stuff sitting on drainboards and the dressing table, I understand I have to repack. I am curious about the drawers?

Do you have to do this  by a certain time? I know a lot of ports everyone has to clear the ship before they can allow anyone on??

  14. We wanted to take one long voyage, but can't find the same cabin available so we are doing 13  days in SA 7067 on the Westerdam and then the following 13 days we have to change to  SC 7089. The cabins look identical except for the location. My question is, I know the room stewards will move the hanging things for us, but I thought I remembered someone saying they would take the drawers form one cabin and just put them in the new one. I very easily could have dreamt that. Anyone know.  Thanks for any help..

  15. Wow. I used it several times a day. I guess I am just spoiled. I don't like sharing a sink with my husband. I am Miss neat and he is Mr. Sloppy. It drives me crazy when he leaves water all around the sink and I drive myself nuts wiping it down all the time.  Did I also mention I am a little anal... 🙂   We have had several penthouse suites on Holland and on Celebrity and I love having the extra bath. The little extra sink on the old Amsterdam  Neptune Suite is so much a part of what I liked about Holland compared to the Royal suites on Celebrity that has the two sinks in the same room. I guess I am just going to have to adjust if I want to do another world on Holland. We did a South east Asia this winter for 14 days on the Westerdam and we had the two sinks no dressing room sink, and I did adjust to that, but at least we had separate sinks. But  I am also a cruiser that you could just take the ship out and drop anchor and I would be happy. I do get off in ports, but not all of them. It takes all kinds to make the world go round. My husband gets off in every port and will take 8 and 9 hour excursions.

  16. I know for a fact there was only one before the last drydock and all the picture I have seen of the 'new' bathroom only have one sink, the same bathtub, but new tile on the wall. I would love to be wrong. If anyone has been in the Amsterdam Neptune suites since then would love to know. Oh how I hope I am wrong.
