  1. I think somehow they didn't get every thing done in the two weeks they had for the refurbish. If we do the 2021 world, I will miss the sink. Still wondering how the cabins in the back bathrooms are that just have a shower. Not sure I want to go to the back part of the ship because I do suffer from sea sickness, but I am curious. we are booked on a Rotterdam cruise in 2020 and I think they don't have the sinks, so I guess I will see how I like it.

  2. We have loved the Neptune Suites on the Amsterdam because I loved the little sink in the dressing area. As we left the ship after the 2018 World cruise they were ripping up the rugs and beginning the dry dock. We were told that they were replacing the bath tubs with walk in showers. We are now considering going on the 2021 HAL world cruise so I decided to look on line for pictures of the 'new' Neptune suite. All I can find show a bathtub still,  just a new shower head and new wall tile and it appears they replaced  the sink in the dressing room with a counter top and no sink. I am guessing this has been discussed on here before now, but this is the first time I looked for pictures. Is  this right?

  3. Crooz_N,

we are also booked on the 2020 world cruise and although we have done one world cruise and I have a major list of what we took :D I would be grateful for a copy of your list, also. This will be our first Regent cruise unless I can find sometime before then to take a week trip, so reading a lot of the cruise critic boards for hints regarding Regent. Many of our friends have sailed with Regent, so I fill very comfortable that we will enjoy the mariner.

I have started a roll call for the 20 20 world but there are very few posters. We would like to take an overnight perhaps in Sydney- we have been there often- to visit the Hunter Valley wine region.

My email is ruth at gopublic dot com thanks in advance for your list.

Mzcat369, we are in the Houston area, also. I am one of the few actual native Houstonians.

  4. Thanks Ksqueak. I think i will try that this trip. I will take one at each meal time. Rarely miss a meal. :-)

Dave_K8, yes i always have the ginger snap cookies handy, too. I buy them from World Market, Cost Plus, and they have a really pretty canister at Christmas.

Luvtwotrvl Oh yes i avoid high sodium products all the time and caffeine, too. I really miss the coffee and cappuccinos, but i don't miss passing out. I also avoid too much chocolate as chocolate has caffeine. I will eat a chocolate chip cookie occasionally but never chocolate candy, cake, pies , etc. You would think it would help me loose weight, but no.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions and info.

  5. I have ginger candy, too.;p Interesting the Gravol is the only one that mentions preventing motion sickness and it says to take 30 minutes before departing. Of course it is not a US product. More at liberty of what you can put on a label.

I also have Menier's disease so i am susceptible to dizziness at any time. But i can tell the difference in Menier's and motion sickness,. With Menier's the medicines i take to prevent it occuring, don't help prevent motion sickness, but the medicines when i am dizzy are the same.

  6. AS much as I love to cruise, I still have to take lots of precautions to avoid sea sickness. In the past I have taken 4 ginger root capsules every day. Two in the am after breakfast and two in the pm after dinner. Both times with lots of water. THOSE PILL BOTTLES DIRECTIONS WERE TO TAKE TWO PILLS , TWO TO 5 TIMES A DAY. The directions never said specifically to avoid sea sickness just that was the directions. The capsules were 550 mg each.

Yesterday I went to go buy the capsules for our upcoming world cruise in 2018. Now the same bottle, same brand, same mg per capsule, only says take two capsules daily. I looked at other brands and they also only say two capsules of 550 mg per day. My question is, does anyone know if the 'industry' has changed what amount of ginger they think helps? Has anyone else dropped the amount of ginger they take if they try the ginger route. Does anyone have any idea how much ginger you really need to help with sea sickness. From what i read online, there are two different thoughts as to whether ginger even helps. I usually have at least one day when i am in bed from sea sickness when we are in rough waters, but i really like to limit the days. I take one 25 mg of meclizine each evening also, and more if the waters are rough. I also, always have motion eaze with me. Don't like the patch and the wrist thing , i am always afraid i don't have it in the correct spot. Any ideas on how much ginger to take, would be greatly appreciated.

  7. I thought about doing that but hated to bother them.

If i don't get an answer here soon, I will. I could also ask Bill and Mary Ann if they have friends in a suite. I could always ask HAL home office, but we know that would not get a correct answer. Once we were going to be in the Pinnacle suite and they gave us a special number to call if we had any questions. I did call and the person said she would email the ship and get an answer. She waited a few days and sent me an answer. It was about where the extra bed was.I was going with a girlfriend on that trip. The answer i received was so totally wrong that i could only laugh when we got on the ship. No way did anyone really go down to the cabin and look where the bed was. But i like your suggestion. thanks

  8. thanks for everyone's reply , but I would still love to hear from someone that has been in a Neptune Suite on the Amsterdam, if possible, about whether those walls are magnetic. We have always sailed in either Neptune or what they now call Pinnacle, but i have never checked to see if the walls will hold a magnet.

  9. I have heard various people post that all cabin walls are metal and magnets will stay on, and I have heard others say no. As many times as we have sailed on Holland, I have never really checked. This next trip will be a world cruise so I really would like to know if the walls in a Neptune suite on the Amsterdam are metal. I seem to remember they sort of look like wall paper, but I know it wasn't wall paper. If anyone knows this answer for sure, I would really appreciate the information. Thanks in advance

  10. If you don't mind, would you tell Rich and Ginny that Mike and Ruth, also from Texas, asked you to tell them Hello. We met then on the Voyage of the Vikings cruise several years ago. We both had anytime dining and we ate together several times and so thoroughly enjoyed their company. They may not remember us, but we were the couple that was raising our grandchildren and the kids were cruising with us, although they never joined us for dinner. I know how much we enjoyed their company, and when you mentioned they had joined your table, it really made you blog 'come alive' as i could picture them so clearly. I believe they had just moved to Austin from Dallas when we met them. Also, if its not too much trouble, would you see if they plan on going on the 2018 World, we are booked on that one. Thanks so much, and sorry for interrupting your blog
