  1. The mini suites on the Dolphin aft were awesome and fully covered. Just a few quick steps to the back deck for viewing.

We didn't have any problems with vibrations at all.

There is an awesome site (done by Tom O) that tells you all about the Coral balconies in case you haven't seen it.

    http://www.cruisedeckplans.com/Princess/odell/res76zxu/princessbalconies/index.html

Thanks! I have seen the website and have been studying it fiercely!

  2. No more or less than any other side balcony; it all depends on wind speed and direction and the direction and speed of the ship.

The balconies do not stick out that much. It's a foot or two, and that's not going to make much of a difference when you consider the size of the ship and the direction of the wind. I think maybe you are over-thinking the balcony issues. ;)

No..there is always wind when you stand at the rail....otherwise, not so much!

Thank you for your replies. I'm shouldered with the responsibility for this trip and I just don't want to make a mistake I could have avoided by asking more seasoned cruisers. Thanks again.

  3. Someone suggested just using umbrellas (sorry, couldn't find the post again to quote you) and that's what my Mom and I came up with last night.

Thanks for the fire warnings and the truth that it'd not likely be allowed. I was trying to desperately figure out a solution before I book the cruises.

Does anyone know if it is especially windy on the aft bump outs? I'd expect that you'd be more sheltered on the inner sections that aren't bump outs.

Would a bump out room at the aft be just a windy mess? I'm talking about the Coral specifically.

  4.

We bring the chairs in from the balcony and face them out towards the balcony so we are actually sitting inside but can still enjoy the view. If it's not raining we open the door so you are not looking through glass. (I know it messes with the temperature). We'd much rather be on the balcony but sometimes you just need to get creative.

    GREAT IDEA! [emoji4]

This post is a wind up isn't it ?

    I promise you it wasn't.

  5. Here is a link to the thread on cruise critic talking about aft vibrations.

    http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=340581

I'm just trying to be careful about it because I don't want it to ruin the cruise that will be very expensive for us.

I am a bit hurt that you think that by researching old threads is considered being "obsessed".

Why not just book one of the many fully covered mini-suite balconies?

As far as the vibration issue in the aft section, I still think that you are confusing the issues with the Island that had cabins added during its dry dock and the Coral that DID NOT have those changes made during its dry dock. You seem obsessed with the Island issues that are NOT the issues with the Coral.

From our experience, get a walker for your mom. We did for mine and it made a world of difference for her. Just sayin'.

P.S. If it is Alaska, take an umbrella, you will probably need it (sun or rain?)........:D

  6. I'm looking for ways to cover an uncovered mini suite balcony on Coral's Caribe deck.

Let's brain storm how you could do this.

I'm thinking of a light weight and waterproof material that can be stung from the part that is partially covered to each balcony divider with those temporary hangers meant for walls in your house that peel off when you're finished with them?

I'm trying to think of an idea for a Caribe deck mini suite situation on the Coral where it's only partially covered at best.

It's an Alaskan cruise so we'd expect it to rain.

[Previous options were other rooms at the front or aft of the ship that are covered. I expect wind and more pitch at the front and have read a few threads about vibrations in the back. Aft rooms may be too far of a walk for my Mom as well.

We're trying to solve this problem because we want the extra space the couch area provides as we often spent a lot of time in the cabin having cookies and hot chocolate and watched the scenery go by. We'd like to do that again.]

    Any help or suggestions?

  7. We really like the Coral too. I have read some negative posts regarding the new aft cabins on the Island experiencing high noise and vibration levels (post dry-dock), but others speak quite highly of the ship. I guess we will find out for ourselves, we are on board in November for the 19 day R/T Panama Canal itinerary in one of the new cabins L721.

I will be looking for your review. I want to book a mini suite that is fully covered and the only ones are at the front of the ship or the back that get that fully coverage. I too just came across the vibration issue which is making me feel like I shouldn't spend the extra money....so I'll be looking to see how others have fared before deciding.

  8. We did 1 cruise with a few friends. It was a pain. They wanted to do everything together. If we didn't want to join in with them they were like little kids and pouted. Be careful who you travel with make sure they are independent and are willing to do their own thing when your not interested in what they want to do some days. They had ever day planned without asking us what we were interested in.

This happened to us, too. It was a mother/daughter cruise for me and a friend. My friend and her mom wanted to stay together with us ALL THE TIME. It was really annoying.

I really like cruising with my mom. We travel the best together as we don't get tired of each other and rarely quarrel (usually only if we are super tired!). She has been on enough cruises to know her way around and can do things when she's up super early (like go get coffee on her own) which works well for us. We usually do most things together but can be separate, too.
