  1. We have done quite a Alaskan cruises.

May was cold and rainy. Same thing with end of August and September.

JMO -- but we enjoyed Alaska the best from about the 3rd week of June through the first week of August.

Agreed. That's my sentiment as well. I normally try to be there during summer solstice.

  2. In my opinion end of June to first part of July because it will be warmer and daylight longer. That's typically the more expensive dates to. If u want to save some money go early or late in the cruise season.

  3. Just off the ship u can walk to a few shops and stores. Make sure you travel in a group and don't go outside of tourist area. Jamaica has blue mountain coffee if you like coffee it some of the best anywhere and can be found right there

  4. Carnival has more energy than most cruise ship brands which i like. If want bands, dancing etc and lively guests having fun then Carnival is a fun choice. If you want great shows that's likely not gonna happen. Definitely good comedy shows. As far as food goes I think it's on par with other main stream lines. Some areas better and some areas worse. I think it's still a value, but that value is perceived. If you have concerns maybe try celebrity or princess. Both more upscale than carnival but with less energy on board IMO. Whichever you choose I hope it meets your expectations. I personally like the higher energy on a Carnival ship.

  5. As someone who lives in Alaska let me just say that road construction can be a factor when determining how long it will take to drive from point A to point B. I have no idea of any major construction projects are scheduled for next summer between the McKinley View Princess and Anchorage, but if the OP is using a Princess coach Princess will be very aware of the situation.

So true. There was plenty of road construction this past summer. With lots of the work being bridges over railroad crossings.

  6. The free cruise will be for a inside cabin. If that's acceptable it may be a good deal. Before u book look at the cruises you would be interested in first before using your cruise voucher. What you will still pay for is taxes, upgrades, gratuities etc. the caveat in addition to all of this is NCF which is non specific cruisefare that cruise lines take on these so called free cruises. This is discretionary to them and different on different cruises. That's why it's important for you to investigate a cruise your interested before calling them to see if the cruise is a good enough deal for you. Typically there are selected dates and cruise they give you so the cruise date you would prefer may not be available.

Just be a smart shopper and you will do fine. I have used the offer before and just sailed as an inside cabin and enjoyed myself. However it wasn't free just cheaper but I still went home with a smile!

  7. Now I was planning on doing it in May so it wouldn't be during hurricane season would that make a difference?

May would be a great month for predicable weather. Ship mechanical problem would be only worry or a ship of sick people. It all can happen. But it sounds like a safer time I would do it then.

  8. You can stop at guest services and put the $12.95 per person per day in cash (it all goes the same place though....), you don't have to wait till the last night. GS can certainly put the cash towards you account which is the same thing. Hope this helps....

If your going to use cash this is the best advice above on how to do it. You can pay cash against your stateroom bill at guest services etc.

Agreed. Guys Burgers are way better than Johnny Rockets. And I'm glad there isnt an upcharge. Five guys burgers are great too as some have mentioned but I personally like guys burgers better. If you are out in Vegas there is a guys burger restaurant near harrahs. It's a pricey burger out there! Approximately $20
