It depends on the port and the staff that day how strict they are. Went on Anthem twice, exactly a year apart. First time around they were short-staffed and sent folks to the end of the line if they showed up late and asked early arrivals to wait until their allotted time.

A year later, same ship, we had no wait time.

Cruised from Boston 2 months ago and arrived on time, but that didn't matter as they weren't properly trained or staffed so we ended up waiting almost an hour to board.

Usually the slots are in one-hour increments.

We also sailed from Boston in October.  We arrived early and found no lines to check in.  We walked right up to an agent.  Sat in chairs for all of 5 minutes and boarding started.  We were on the ship prior to our assigned check in time of 11am.  Same thing in Cape Liberty, they weren't checking times.  On our Oasis sailing last year, boarding started before 10am because no passengers were disembarking since the ship had deadheaded from Florida.  We were in our cabin at 10:10am!  This year, weren't on ship until just before 11am, also before our check in time.

Hey all! Sailing SOS Jan27/24 with hubby and sisters in law..one SIL wanted to do the comedy show....couldn't believe how fast it booked! All dates and times are booked!  Hubby and I have sailed before, but we usalyl don't do shows and this is our SIL's first cruise

If someone doesn't use their tickets, can we put our names on a list with the guest services?

    TY

Some reservations are held back for those that don't make reservations prior to boarding.  As soon as you board the ship, connect to Royal Wifi and try to see if you can get a reservation.  I would do this while standing in line at wherever the box office is set up to make reservations.  If they aren't able to get a reservation, there is a standby line for each show.  On a recent Oasis sailing, we saw around 50 get in as standbys.  Some had to stand the whole time, others found seats.

Whereas, I thought the question was, "How quickly can I expect to exit the ship?"

What port have you experienced that timeline?  You post that when people ask about disembarking and it is not accurate as ships arrive at different times and some ports are more efficient at getting people off the ship than others.

We just boarded Anthem today and went to the Windjammer for dinner, it never disappoints. As much as I love Oasis I really have an issue with their Windjammer (less food options, flow is awful).

We stopped eating in the MDR, not because of a bad experience but we just enjoy the flexibility of eating when we want.

We have sailed Anthem many times and feel it has the best WJ.  The flow is much better than Oasis class ships and the quality of the food has always been great.  We love the coffee bar there too.

We are Pinnacle and were in a JS on the Anthem TA. When I asked about making CK ressies for the whole cruise I was initially told "No, you need to do it every day" but then the host said "you're in a JS so you can make them for the whole cruise".

We have never had any issues getting reservations on Anthem when we have stayed in a JS.  They have always given priority to JS.  We have experienced the opposite on Oasis class, which is why we only book full suites on Oasis class.

With the talk of being banned from CC.  What stops anyone from signing back up under a different email/username etc?   It’s been so long since first signing up I don’t know what info they require at sign up in order to weed out all these “bad eggs”  lol  😂  the whole notion of being banned from a cruise website seems pretty dumb.

Many have signed under new names but their IP address gives them away.  Some know how to get around that and change their posting habits to try to hide.  Doesn't work as well as some think it does.

Lately it is so hard to not post but it is the Holidays and I don't want to play Monopoly.  Sigh.  Therefore, I am going to make a couple different cookies for the tractor party tomorrow and put together a white elephant gift for my yarn party Sunday.

Cookies are always a good choice!  🤐😇

    Thank you again.

    Amazingly simple, I can't believe I forgot.

There used to be a way to search on a particular poster within a thread, which was a lot easier, but we lost that when they changed platforms.  I used to like to be able to click on the list of posters within a thread and only see their posts listed.  I never found a way to only look at those posts as some are trying to figure out for reviews and I don't think this platform allows it.

Speaking of Live Reviews, has @singinalot posted her review to Spain/Portugal yet?

EDIT: Interesting, I tried "tagging" her but it didn't work. Not sure if I spelled it correctly? Usually the name comes right up after the first few letters.

I did notice a few weeks ago that she had posted right after Thanksgiving but her post was deleted. I only saw the quoted replies. Not sure why it was deleted. Maybe the mods didn't like her gown? 😀😉

Finger-crossed she is not on the permanently playing monopoly list.

Her account looks to be gone and many posts missing.  It could be renamed or removed.  I just hope she is safe and well and just needed to get away from here for her own reasons.  Sending love if she sees this. 🙂

Thank for everyone's thoughts and opinions. I saw my ortho doctor today and I'm in a boot that I can walk in immediately - so lucky on that front. Will have additional X-rays to two weeks to confirm everything is on track prior to leaving for cruise. So I will not need a special room or a scooter, but I do plan on renting a knee scooter from Scottaround or some other company.

I would also call the special needs department and request a shower stool for your cabin.  It will be much safer for you when you are taking a shower on the moving ship.

She definitely should have gotten both flu and Covid shots , she normally gets them with yearly physical but that is for later this month. She eats very healthy and exercises which is two things I don’t do , even though she is sick she’s been on the computer working all day. Neither of us had Covid in the past.

Doctors around here aren't giving them, you have to get them at a pharmacy.

    Hope she feels better soon.

I've received my Covid vaccines.  I got the latest dose about a month ago along with my flu shot.   I figured with the holidays coming up and holiday shopping, I don't want to risk getting sick and missing our January 6 cruise. I've been waiting too long for it.   I did get Covid once last spring and got Paxlovid.  I think I was sick for maybe a day or two with cold like symptoms.

I hope your wife feels better soon.

We chose to get the latest Covid vaccine, as well as our flu shots, prior to our October cruise.  DH got them at the same time and I spaced the two out because I react to pretty much everything.😲🙄  Neither of us got sick on our cruise but many on our rollcall came back with Covid and some with the flu.  I have gotten sick on too many cruises in the past, even after being vaccinated, but we figure it lessens our symptoms if we do get sick, so we will continue to vaccinate.

I’m working on checking in our family and it looks like all of the document choices that include a birth certificate also require some kind of ID card. I have a 9 year old who doesn’t have an ID card. Does he need to have one in addition to the birth certificate?

Passengers 16 and up need a government issued picture ID.  Your 9 yr old does not need one.

I thought of you today mema, after reading @aussielozzie18 aussie's post with pictures of her boat ride with her dad where they deliver mail to the surrounding area.  Wasn't it you who did the mailboat trip while in Canada?

Yes, we did the mail run on our NE/Canada cruise but it was on our stop in Portland, Maine, not one of the Canadian ports.  It was on the Casco Bay Ferries and was $17pp with tickets only available the day you are going.  The boat goes 365 days a year and the Captain will narrate if there are more than 10 passengers.  It is BYO food and drink, not a nice lunch like @aussielozzie18 had on her boat ride.  I thinks hers was a wonderful trip to take with her Dad, great memories.  We would definitely do it again if we were in Portland and it was a nice day as it was nice to be our on the water.  It was interesting to see what the people who were going out to their island homes were bringing with them.  We saw many people with collapsible grocery carts taking anything from a step ladder to multiple gallons of window washer fluid to a Tiffany style lamp to their houses.  Some islands had golf carts all lined up at the docks waiting for people and others had shuttle vans.  They loaded and uploaded cargo at all islands but we never stayed for more than 5 or 10 minutes.  We have been to Portland a lot in the past as it is only an hour and a half drive from home, so this was something different for us to do.  🙂

Speaking of Advent calendars, since our grandkids were big into Harry Potter this summer, we got all of them these.

They are eagerly making their way through each day.

I got Advent Calendars too but I am buying for an older crowd. 😀 This year they have a hops forward box or a traditional box. I went for the new box and it has been very popular so far.

    Hi Everyone,

I have a question I hope someone can answer.  We are on the Anthem of the Seas holiday saling on 12/24/23, but are not yet able to reserve shows other than Spectra's Cabaret (which I was weirdly able to reserve for my family over a month ago). I understand that RC changed its policy from opening up the show reservations 30-45 days before the cruise to only allowing such reservations after the 1st of the month during the month you are scheduled to sail.  Well, it is now 12/3/23 and I still cannot reserve any other shows like We Will Rock You or the Ice Show.  I called RC over the weekend and the person on the phone had no idea what I was talking about.

Any insight as to why and when we can reserve?   Are we no longer able to reserve the shows in advance of the cruise?

We appreciate any, and all, help!  Thanks.

You used to have to make reservations for three shows but now it is only Spectra's Cabaret.

Am I the only one that didn't know what a "close" meant? My first thought was closet, with the t missing, which would have been even worse. ☺️

[ C ] UK uk. /kləʊs/ us. /kloʊs/ a road, usually with private houses, that vehicles can only enter from one end: He lives at 83 Barker Close.

I thought it was a typo at first too but when it was said in the next post, I figured it was something outside since he was talking about the yard. 🙂

Having my one and only experience on Royal Up, I am interested in this topic. Can they really win a bid that is a downgrade? Wouldn't the bid options always be better than the guarantee category? Or was it just an oversight on the bidder that they didn't modify their bid when they made changes to their booking?

I am interested because my experience may not be typical. Thanks.

We had booked a suite GTY which typically gets assigned a junior suite.  We received the email to bid through Royal Up prior to being assigned a cabin.  We bid on a grand suite and an owners suite.  I check daily to see if I am assigned a cabin when I book a GTY and found we had been assigned a two bedroom grand suite, which is definitely an upgrade from either a GS or OS.  I immediately went and cancelled our bids on GS and OS, they had not been automatically cancelled.  I never got an email to bid again on that reservation and I honestly never went looking to see if I could bid as I was very happy with what we were assigned through the GTY.
