  1. We were on the cruise with Jamman, and are reliving it through his outstanding pictures and narration. I made an "album" of our pictures--mostly personal pix----not the same quality. If you'd like to see the few shots I took of the the midnight buffet, check out #298 through 298--O of the album. Just click on the link below, then on the one you select and keep clicking on the forward arrow.

Jamman, hope you don't mind my interruption--as I said earlier, it was a pleasure cruising with you and your lovely wife, hope to do it again.

    PANAMA CANAL CRUISE.

Loved your pictures! Nice to see the same ports and tours as Jamman with a different perspective!

  2. Really enjoying your review!

On the pool deck, are there any lounge chairs under the deck above? I see a few tables and chairs in a pic or two in that area.

Are any of the hot tubs covered?

One in my travel party needs the shade as much as possible (100% Irish) and I should be too, but I like the sun too much :)

This may be a long shot, but any idea of the cost of the bulk candy in the candy place?

    Thanks again!

  3. He is 9 and he will sleep in the king bed with his mother and I or in the pullman in our stateroom, whichever he prefers. I did find some other information and see that the gratuities for him, may be fair, even though if there are services for which we have paid gratuities that we do not utilize that we can have the gratuities changed onboard. I don't see this as much of a problem. Thanks

Do you deduct the cost of his food when calculating the tip for a server at a land based restaurant?

  4. Correct Laney, some very good advice, however, alot of dated and just plain wrong advice. No Candles, no open flames. cruise tip: read cruiselines FAQS. Tons of up to date info.

Of course. Just struck me as odd that it was mentioned as tips on here.

Still looking for redemption info for the gift cards... I (cautiously) assume the eGift cards are not a problem on board?!

Anyone use a TA but call Carnival directly to pay with the gift cards or do they have to go through the TA for payment too? (Booked w/ a TA for Carnival, but I usually book directly w/ RCI)

  5. What a great thread. Thank you all for the invaluable tips. Poppin' the Carnival cherry later this summer.

Couple questions have come up after reading this thread:

Casino.. Do you have to use to the S&S pass or can I still put cash on the table/into the slot machine?

One post mentioned matches in the bathroom...another a scented candle... Aren't these items on a banned list somewhere?

Carnival gift cards... From what I gather..these can be used to pay for your S&S account and cruise. Do the kiosks allow the gift cards to be applied or must you stand at GS? Anyone have experience with using the gift cards to pay for the cruise while using a TA? Can you call and have it applied or does the TA need to handle it?

    TIA!

  6. "Hey there neighbor! That's a good question. We haven't really decided yet. The way I see it, there are three options.

    1) We take Amtrak from DC/Baltimore to New York the day before, spend the night in Manhattan, then head over to the terminal the morning of the cruise, and Amtrak back. My rough estimation of cost for this including the fare, hotel & parking in DC is about $500, plus whatever we decide to do in Manhattan that evening.

    2) We drive up to New Jersey the day before, stay at a hotel, and drive to the pier. Cost estimate for this is about $400.

    3) We drive to New Jersey the day before, stay at a hotel, and have a shuttle take us to the pier, leaving our car at the hotel. Cost estimate is about $300.

I'm really 33/33/34 on these options, with 34 being option #3. We should decide soon, though, I suppose. "

    [Epic quote fail here!]

Not sure if you have done Amtrak w/ luggage, but I wasn't a fan (it has been a few years though). I would lean towards option 3. I am just surprised that the savings is only $100 over parking at the pier.

There is a online reservation company that has good rates for stay and park hotels. It is defined by Google as "a group of three people or things". Hope that helps :)

  7. Following along. Possibly sailing the same route in August. Need to finalize a few things.

Couple questions. I may have missed but does the pizza place in the buffet have breakfast pizza?

I know hmc is coming up, but do you know the price of adding a 5 or 6 person to a cabana?

ETA are you unable to make reservations for carnivals anytime dining?

    Thanks for an enjoyable review!
