  1. Yes, I've taken it numerous times to and from NYC over the past 30 years. Sometimes it's been reasonably on time, sometimes quite late. There's simply no way to predict what may happen in a trip of over 1200 miles in this country. What is it exactly you want to know? BTW, Blue Herons is quite correct about the neighborhood around the Miami station; the old Seaboard station on NW 7th was pretty desolate at night, but the present one is worse. Call a taxi to meet you when you're getting close, especially if you're arriving after dark.

Did you get a regular coach seat or a roomette?

I was thinking a roomette is the only way to go. Is there anyway to secure items when out of the area (locking closet?)

I see there is no check baggage, but where is it stored for the 26+ hours?

I guess I am just looking for an overall opinion of the trip. Since you have done it 30 times it must not be so bad!

    Thank you for your help.

  2. The information JDC gave you is based on nothing.

Call Amtrak, they will give you the stats.

Arrange before hand for a taxi or u.

You can also find On-Time Performance figures on the Amtrak website; go to the pull-down menu under Destinations. One of the problems is that, outside of the Northeast Corridor, Amtrak doesn't own the right of way, and their trains often get delayed by freight traffic.

Have either you of you taken the train from the NE to Miami or vice versa?

  3. I have never taken the train to Miami, but AMTRAK is consistently late, so plan on arriving into Miami at least one day early. Taxis or Uber from the station are reportedly available and there are countless threads on this board about choosing a hotel in Miami.

Ah.. So the trains being late hasn't changed in 8 years LOL

I have no choice but to arrive a day early as the trains arrive after all aboard times.

    Thanks for the info!

  4. I guess it's a matter of figuring out what's the most important thing - him going or not going. If you cancel him you'll get port charges/taxes back and depending on how late you cancel you get a percentage of the fare back.

I'm kind of assuming that if he's not going it'll be becasue of a tournament so you won't need to worry about someone to watch him. But what happens if he can go and you can't get him on, do you need to find someone for him to be with? I'm kind of assuming he's a bit younger and needs someone to be home with him, but if you don't need to worry about him if he can't go, then it's no harm no foul.

Ah you know allstar baseball too! :) It is my nephew so I am not the primary caregiver.

After talking it over with others going.. I think we decided to bite the bullet and just book a second cruise next summer... yea it was a painful decision to go on a cruise in July and then again in August. :D

(and for those that are wondering... can't just go in August b/c my niece has high school soccer so her cruise is in July!)

  5. Good idea. Another reason to add now is to fix the price.

Totally agree with this, call now to see If there's room and add him on. It's easier remove them then add the closer you get

I thought about adding now, but the problem is final payment is well before knowing if he would be able to go... this would have be a decision made a few days to a week before.

If I add him and he can't go, won't I lose the amount for him that late in the game? (pun intended)

  6. I would disagree... she may be one of the older ships, but she is in good shape. The CD was the worst in the fleet. I have nothing bad to say about the ship. She's great for what she is... If you are wanting R&R then Grandeur is of you, if you want activity, and on the go all the time, then Oasis class may be better.

If you check the signature for Biomedbob... you will see he said this is jest... (he doesn't want the secret of how grand she really is to get out!)

  7. Actually the Park Café has been there for quite a while (I won't go so far as to say since the beginning):D. When we were on GOS in 2006 (our first RCCL cruise) it was called the Solarium Cafe;).

The late night offerings were better when Park Cafe was the Solarium Cafe.

Nothing like greasy fries and a burger to calm a drunken stomach... so I hear! :D

  8. Great trip report, thank you! We leave later this month on the Grandeur. Did you happen to notice if drink cards were sold? We're not inclined to do the packages but the punch card is intriguing. If offered, how early in the cruise did it come out?

My understanding is that there's a Kids club onboard. Why were the kids you observed unhappy?

    Thank you again!

I was reading another review of Grandeur (YorkVillian's-AMAZING...if you want a good laugh, have a gander). But anyway.. He mentioned that he never saw the card advertised, but asked a bartender. The bartender asked an officer, but was able to get the card. $89.95+18% for 10 drinks.

    HTH!

  9. Only complaint I read on here about MDR dress that I agreed w/ was someone in a t-shirt w/ the "F" word.

As far as that ...little bit of rust

    ...Carpet was worn

    ...The air was salty

...It rained for 30 secs until the Captain changed course

If you are able to afford a vacation...life is good.

To all those battling disease.. Prayers and thoughts!

  10. Not familiar w/ Australia rules... but from my experience...Huge price drop after final payment...

I was able to go from an inside to balcony (price for balcony guarantee was currently cheaper than inside) for no additional money, BUT I was also able to receive $200 OBC.

    GOOD LUCK :)

  11.

I am sure you and some of the "95%" will not be happy!:D:p

    I couldn't care less.

You asked for help, suggestions, experience. Many have tried to offer help and suggestions, including myself. Your expectations are not realistic. We (the 95%) were trying to help you manage your expectations.

Like Leo said.. nothing they give you will be satisfactory.

    Best of luck.

  12. r o f l!

You are such a negative person.....tzzzz!

I think some on this forum ( is it 95%:D:p) just can't stand the thought others might get offered things that actually fit their needs and that RCI would actually listen to them and negotiate - what is best for both sides....

Can't wait to hear what your offer is and what your settlement ends up being!
