  1. If I redeem Visa points for a free cruise or a companion fare, I still get the C&A points for the cruise, correct?

I ask because I've seen where people were upgraded to a JS for free and didn't get double points, for example. I assume that doesn't apply to Visa points redemption.....

We'll be taking a 3 or 4 day next year (and may use Visa points for companion fare) to get us to Diamond by the time we go on our 11-day in November, so I need to make sure we get those 3 or 4 points!

  2. I usually pick cabins that also have cabins above, but my wife really wanted to be on the 14th floor. I think I called RCCL and the teen club is open until 2am, so I went ahead and switched us to the 12th floor aft. Thanks for the kind response.

You are welcome - have a wonderful cruise. We are so excited about our Allure cruise in September!

  3. Hi there,

We just booked a 7 night cruise on the Allure for December and my spouse picked Stateroom 14682. She wants to be on deck 14 because it's close to the kid's clubs and our kids are going to be spending a lot of time there. :D

However, I looked at the deck plan and noticed we're right below the Fuel Teen Disco and now I'm worried about thumping disco music being in our cabin. We have a toddler and I certainly don't want her sleep (and ours!) to be impacted by disco music.

Anyone stayed in this stateroom and can tell me if we should switch? Thanks!

We always choose decks with cabins above and cabins below. Can you get a cabin on 12 (there is no 13)? Then it's just a short flight of stairs up to 14.

  4. We just got off the Allure and did the All Access Tour. Our guide did enforce the long pants rule And closed shoe rule. She actually turned someone away because they had a skirt on and sandals. There was another guest with capris and she was allowed to tour.

I plan to bring ankle length leggings to wear with a couple of tops for casual dinners and a pair of little closed-toed flats. Would that work, or do you need real pants and sneakers? I don't want to pack extra clothes just for the tour.

  5. Twice on B2Bs my status changed after the first leg, and I was successful in getting the benefits of the new status on the second leg..

Just ask the LA, nicely of course!:D;) and s/he will be able to get you all set up.

I agree, since you're on 2 different ships (hence, not a true back to back) bringing your seapass will be a good thing....the LA will be able to access your prior history.

If you have time on the 3-nighter, MAYBE visit the LA on that ship and see if s/he can contact the next LA and maybe get it sorted out before you get to your second ship...

    Meg - That's a great idea! Thanks!

  6. I hope you know I was kidding in my earlier post (#14). I could tell you weren't expecting, more like wishful thinking. In my book there's nothing wrong with reaching for the stars. If we don't ask we might never know what we are missing.

Being newer diamonds I understand wanting to have the benefits of the diamond lounge. It has enhanced our last few cruises as we spent time chatting with others who enjoy cruising as mu h as we do. The free drinks are a nice perk too. :) Talking to the LA on your upcoming cruise would be a good idea. Hopefully she will say it will work out so can confidently enjoy your anticipation of diamond status on the Serenade.

    Mary

Thanks, Mary - I knew you were kidding!

  7. I wish I hadn't brought up the balcony discount. That was a real stretch and I really don't expect it.

We are MUCH more interested in the other Diamond benefits, especially the lounge. The main reason for taking the 3-day cruise is to be Diamond on the 11-day on Serenade, so we would be VERY disappointed if we were denied Diamond status.

Do you think we could get a reliable answer from the LA on our September Freedom cruise?

  8. WE just did a B2B with a few friends whose status changed during the first leg: two couples who went from "new" to Gold, and another couple who went from Emerald to Diamond.

In all cases, the LA took care of them, and gave them stickers to affix to their cards (for the next cruise), as the new status would not yet be printed on them.

After re-boarding on turnaround day, they went to Guest Services and got new cards printed on the spot, and in the case of the Diamond couple, they got the new benefits pre-loaded on the new Seapass card.

So all that can be done on the ship..........:)

    Thank you.

I have seen posts about this working B2Bs on the same ship - we would be on different ships for the two sailings. That makes it more complicated.

I guess hoping for a Diamond balcony discount on the Serenade would be too much to ask.....

  9. Because we just upgraded to a JS on our upcoming September 2014 Allure cruise, we will be 3 points from Diamond after that cruise. We are thinking of taking a 3-day on Majesty the weekend before our 11-day Serenade cruise in November 2015. If we do that, can we get Diamond status on the Serenade cruise? I know it takes time for C&A status to show after a cruise. Could we make arrangements on the Serenade with the loyalty ambassador?

  10. We are SO excited to book our first post-retirement cruise – 11 day Southern Caribbean on Serenade in November, 2015. I posted on the roll call – no hello, no welcome, no nothing. Everyone on the roll call seems to 1) making this the second half of a B2B, 2) be D+ or higher, or 3) already know each other. This is the longest cruise we have taken and are lowly Emerald. I just hope our roll call is not indicative of the folks on the cruise.

  11. Thanks for the advice, everyone. We stay up pretty late when we're cruising and we are not light sleepers, so if the noise calms down by 11:00 or midnight, we should be fine. I don't want to risk the same issues we had on our Mariner aft balcony.

Besides, I'd rather be 2 decks down from the pool than three - i love being able to run up and down the stairs from the pool to the room and back.

  12. I have booked an 11 day Southern Caribbean Cruise on Serenade. I chose 9078 (D1 Hump Balcony) for its location and large balcony. I have since read some negative reviews about late night noise from the Centrum.

There is an aft D1 cabin available (8172). I’ve also read reviews of people that loved their aft balconies on Radiance class ships. We sailed on Mariner several years ago in an aft cabin and my husband said “Never again!” because 1) the furniture on our balcony was very sooty and wet every morning, and 2) it was VERY hot – no shade or breeze. We were never able to enjoy our balcony the whole trip. (BTW, we didn’t mind the walk.)

Should I switch cabins? For those who have sailed on a Radiance class ship, what would you do?
