  1. Growing up - when I was a Boy Scout (initially) and a budding trumpet player around the 7th grade. The San Diego Chapter of the Submarine Veterans of WWII approached me and asked if I would play Taps at the conclusion of their Memorial Day service. Did that every year out at the Ballast Point sub base for about 5 years until I moved away. Joined the Navy myself a year later at 17 1/2. Still have the "Thank You" plaque the Vets gave me about 50 years ago.
  2. Will never understand peoples inability to practice common hygiene. 24 years in the Navy, (8) 6 month deployments and a lot more time onboard during workups, drills, exams, and mini cruises. All served onboard aircraft carriers with over 6000 crew-members and never a problem with norovirus.
  3. Miracle does not yet. My understanding is the wiring was run during the last Dry Dock but they didn't get any further than that.
  4. That music video kinda reminds me of my garbage disposal when I run it in the morning (apple core, strawberry tops, etc.). But hey - whatever floats your boat.
  5. Use a good cash back card (pay the balance off when the purchase posts) and you will save a little more. I used my Chase Double Cash Back Card to save another 2%. IMPORTANT TO NOTE. These WILL NOT be posted on your credit card as "travel related" so don't think you will get a return on Travel from your card. AARP will post these as Charitable Organization purchases.
  6. I bought some as recently as the beginning of April
  7. Thanks for the heads up on these. Had recently returned some battery powered (little) camping lights to Costco and was looking at another option. The camping lights from Costco were really nice but one of them had a defective fold out kickstand so they would not have worked as I intended them too. Probably going to go with the warm white models over the cool white ones. Just need enough light to walk in the dark to the bathroom. We have some plug-in models just like these (also from Auvon) that we use in our bathrooms at home so the quality is great from this company.
  8. Cruise ships pitch and roll constantly. Staying dead locked on to a specific satellite requires some very sophisticated and expensive antennas. Not to mention that first priority for the available bandwidth belongs to the ships bridge, engineering, and hotel director. Trying not to be too harsh - people need to disconnect from the electronic world, pick up a good book, watch the sunrise & sunset, gaze upon the stars at night, and have a fantastic time on vacation. Or just stay at home.
  9. A lot of times, Zoom meetings (and others) can be saved (or archived) for future use. It allows for students to watch a second or third time. It's kind of an advanced version of the old mini tape recorder (showing my age) like I used to take into the lecture halls/classrooms. That was a HUGE help in achieving a high GPA. I only took VERY BASIC notes during class and that allowed me to truly concentrate on the actual lecture. That SAME night, I would play back the recorded lecture and really develop detailed notes. Those detailed notes became my study guide for future exams/reports. Aced a lot of exams that way. So check with your professor and see what he/she can do to help you out.
  10. They don't HAVE TO build only the Mega class ships. If smaller port access issues are important to Carnival (or anyone else), they can easily build smaller ships in the 2500-3500 pax range for those ports like Tampa, etc. Save for the efficiencies of larger passenger counts, the smaller ships would still benefit from increased engineering plant efficiencies that have been developed over the last 20-30 years. Smaller ships also allow for more unique itineraries and that can be a huge selling point as well. Not all ports of call want a 6000 passenger behemoth (or even 2/3/4 of them at once).
  11. Great review! We will be on Pride next year in July for a 12 night Baltic Sea Cruise.
  12. They may have just had a closer connection to the engineering plant. While Sensation could have been prettier on the outside. Inside - the ship could have been living on borrowed time and pre-covid, Carnival could have just been trying to squeeze a few more sailings out of her. But covid arrived and it was time to say goodbye.
  13. The thing is - do you really want to be standing there at the cruise port on embarkation day with just a photo in your camera and find out it's unacceptable. Just put it with your passport (I use a very handy passport case that I got on Amazon (brand is Zoppen) and you are prepared for any issues. Don't travel with your Passport? That's an incredibly foolish way to travel (even domestically). Look at your Passport - how much personal information is on it. (hint - the answer is HARDLY ANY). Now look at your drivers license. It gives out almost everything a thief could want. Address, birth date, height, weight, eye color, etc. Your drivers license is good for one thing - driving.
  14. Looking at our sailing on the Miracle in June (June 20), there was 7 inside cabins, 1 ocean view, and 5 balcony cabins (3 are obstructed view) still available. So the ship seems pretty full to me. We paid just slightly less than $1800 for our bowling alley balcony during the "You Only Turn 50 Once" sale. Prices are WAY higher now for that sailing. Cheapest cabin now is an Interior and it is coming in at $2565 for 2 pax(wow!)
