  1. Hi guys,

We are on an Oceania cruise in September that leaves out of Miami. United only flies direct into FLL from SFO. Is that workable or annoying?

    Thanks so much!

    Kim

Of course it's workable. You could also fly to Orlando, Tampa, West Palm, etc and still get to MIA. What you have to decide is... Is it worth the added problems of getting transportation from one of these airports to MIA (cost, time, worries) as opposed to getting a flight with a layover somewhere, that gets you to MIA. I'm sure UA can get you to MIA.

BTW - stopover flights can be less expensive than non-stops.

  2. Thank you everyone for your information and advice!

It is somewhat more expensive than the United flights connecting through EWR, but the Delta flights that I have booked through DTW ought to be less stressful and will be more easy for me to accomplish. Connection times, as booked, are very good.

Attention Delta: Don't mess with the schedule and change the connection times for these flights!!!!!!

Good for you!! DTW is a great airport and easy to navigate. Have fun.

  3. I did look for the nonstop SLC-MIA on American Airlines and it does appear to operate on Saturdays in March...but it is a redeye. It leaves Saturday morning at about 12:45am and gets in to Miami at about 7:45am. This might be the best option as it gets him closest to FLL.

(the search I did was for Saturday, March 12th)

Thanks Zach - didn't notice that. It still negates the 'can't leave Fri nite' idea. But I see it also leaves same time Sun am. So I guess the Q is - can the he leave late Fri night, or stay in SLC all day Sat to arrive MIA on Sun am?

I also noticed the price is somewhat more (to be expected for a non-stop), but the OP is from Cda, so we have to add 30-35% onto the cost. Personal decision for them to make.

  4. You may want to rethink the "can't leave Fri nite" idea. Most flights are red-eyes so they leave late at night. That means he would have to stay in SLC all day Sat for a late night flight and not get to FLL til Sun morning. Perhaps leaving late Fri night would work better getting into FLL Sat am instead? Also most of these flights are very long with long layovers somewhere - think 12 to 20 hours total time.

The best option (for me) is AA leaving SLC at midnight Friday, stop in CLT (nice airport) with a 1 hour layover, arriving FLL at 9:30 Sat morning.

Also, it appears most flights to anywhere in FL are red-eyes, so same scenario applies to them as well.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

  5. Now, let the complaints and whining begin! :D

That was my first thought as well - Why is PCL spending all this money on paint and at the same time cutting down on staff and food quality??

Personally, I think it looks good, and they have to repaint the ships over time anyway, so why not spice it up. Blue paint costs the same as white - small cost for a stencil and we're done.

  6. You may want to wait til Jet Blue puts out their sked for Oct. They have direct flights from BOS and JFK to SJU (or, at least used to). They also fly out of BTV and ALB, although the flights I found for Sept are a little on the expensive side - that's the downside for flying from regional airports. Good Luck. Let us know what you decide.

  7. Good info to have, we've never pre-cleared before so all info is helpful (and I guess if you miss the plane because you are waiting in pre-clearance you are SOL:o). Since we are driving across the border I am not sure that we will need to pre-clear at YUL on the return trip (at least we didn't the last time that we terminated in Montreal and drove home).

Coming back you would clear Canada customs at YUL, then US customs at the border back into the States.

  8. You will HAVE to pre-clear at YUL or you won't get on the plane. No option.

It would have to be a substantial savings for me to have to clear customs into Canada at the border, then pre-clear back into the US at Dorval then the same again in reverse coming back. You could simply drive to BTV and get a flight from there.

  9. Hard to give suggestions because... we don't know your originating city.

Plus - you seem to only want to use Cruise Air ?? Why not look outside the box and check all available flights on other airlines?

If you're stuck with Delta, I would choose DTW or MSP any day in the winter over ATL. Both airports are well equipped to deal with snow.

  10. Book a backup on Southwest. If you buy nonrefundable you have a year to use those funds with no change fees. Just be sure you cancel before Delta flight

That could work.. except - they have exactly one flight that morning to FLL that would get you in before the ship cruises and it has a stopover in BWI.... Think - Eye of the Storm!!. Certainly not my choice.

  11. Since DTW is a Delta hub I would doubt there would be any problem getting a spare plane if needed. If anything they will be parking extra planes at places like DTW and ATL to wait out the storm if it hits the east coast.

  12. With the weak Cdn$ right now, and IF?? you can handle Pearson (terrible airport), after a quick check on Matrix I find the prices similar. Trouble is AC return times suck (unless you want to take a stop over in YUL). You could possibly do one way on AC and a return on WestJet (both non stops). Price would be slightly higher, but maybe worth it in the long run. Good Luck.

  13. We know people who have done this exact thing. They hooked up with another couple on their roll call who had a room for the night. The left coasters took their bags over to the other couple's room and dropped them. Had bkfst, went shopping etc then went back and all of them went to the port around 11:30 ish.

Much more relaxing than just hanging out - check out your roll call and make friends!! :D

  14. You make me laugh Shogun.... If it wasn't for you, or the Mrs, or more importantly - the dogs (I know - not really) .. nothing would go just right for you.

As I'm reading this - Donna is well with the tooth Dr? So.. you're on your way now after dropping off your special friends?

As I said before... don't want to miss your "Live From" on the Emerald - my favourite ship.

    Take care

  15. It's relatively easy - but not simple. As others have said you have to upload your pics to a photo site - photobucket, smugmug, or many others. I upload to my ISP site who gives me free storage.

Once that's done you have to go to that site in a new browser window, pick the img you want to put on cc. Click on it and you should see a http://www.something code come up in your search browser. That's the www code. Copy that (right click and say copy).

Then you have to go to the msg you're trying to generate and click on (at the top) a little somewhat yellow pic that shows a mountain (or something) hover over it and it will say "Insert Img"). Click on that and you can copy the url that you have saved.

It works.. just try it a few times without actually up-loading the msg to CC. Just preview what you've done. Not happy... delete it and try again.

I know... this is intense.... but it really is quite easy once you get used to it.
