  1. "We were told that we had to pay $29.99 each for a visa stamp. This had to be cash."

I'm curious what this would be for since they left the country on a Carnival ship ? It's not like they were staying in the country and didn't have a visa. Have never heard of it, but good to know.

  2. Nothing to do with the cost of airfare for this flight... but - I'm always amazed, and very thankful for the time and effort that people put into answering questions from us in-frequent fliers on this forum. I've learned a lot over the years on how to do it myself, but you can't get past the knowledge of many of you. Thanks for all the efforts you put in to helping all of us.

  3. Does anyone know whether this will be extended to UK passengers?

    Kind regards.

    Tracy

Offer is available to residents of the 50 United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Bermuda and the District of Columbia

No idea if it will be extended to you, but I doubt it.

  4. I don't want uncorked bottles - may not use them for some reason the following night. We always have a cork screw with us so that isn't an issue.

Also - if my memory is correct, a bottle will not stand up in the small fridge so it would have to be laid on its side ?? Possibly you can take the shelf out - can't remember that either. :( Of course I'm thinking white wine. BTW - that fridge prob would not keep if very cold either.

  5. On a 7 day cruise they only give you a 150.00 OBC for a drink package selling at almost 400.00. Somehow doesn't seem quite right.

Basically - it's the cost of the booze. Very large profit margin on alcohol.

  6. If you don't want the Sip and Sail, can you ask for OBC instead, effectively, lowering the price of the cruise? You could use the OBC for tips.

    From the Princess site......

In the event that the guest does not want the beverage package, alternative OBC amounts have been designated: Guests booking sailings 6-9 days can receive $150 per person. Guests booking sailings 10-12 days can receive $200 per person. Guests booking sailings 13+ days can receive $250 per person.

  7. I honestly didn't know this (both occupants don't have to buy).. so, thanks for the info.

I noticed it states 40% off bottles of wine. Does anyone with experience know - should you order a bottle of wine in a DR... can you split it with friends? Or will they only bring you one glass? :(

2nd Q.. they have an offer for '5 for 4' beer (ie buckets), but it states "delivered to your cabin". Does that mean you can't go to a bar and get one to sit around the pool etc.

  8. We've always been able to make a reservation for ATD.. either through the phone "Dine Line", or at the door first day. But... have never been guaranteed the same table, or wait staff even for the Speciality restaurants. Wait staff are moved around from venue to venue depending on requirements other than in the Traditional Dining venues where you should get the same staff every night.

  9. Well, you didn't mention it was the same airline. In that case, it MIGHT not be an issue. I must say I have zero experience. If United is the certificate holder, and United served it, and you're on another United flight, it might be okay. But I don't know how to verify that.

I don't know how anyone could actually prove that they bought it on another flight by the same airline?? Plus - I believe that the intent of "being served" would mean the FA should open the bottle before giving it to you?? (I know..most don't).

  10. We were on Royal Princess last week.

We were in a balcony cabin that would sleep four people (but there were only 2 of us) .

The extra beds were completely recessed in the ceiling and you wouldn't know they were there except for the outline shape.

    Excellent.. Thanks.

  11. Are you going to be using these bunks, or just want to know where they are? EM

Not using them and surprised that 2 pax would be assigned such a room when there could be someone wanting a room for 3 or 4. Plus, it appears that if they're on the walls you loose a lot of walking space around the bed - and there's only a wall on one side of the bed in a balcony cabin.

    Just curious is all.

  12. I've just been assigned a balcony cabin and cruisedeckplans.com show it to have 2 pullman beds. I can only find pics of inside cabins with pullman beds and can't envision where there could be 2 in a balcony room. Anyone have any insite or pics of one. Specifically it's cabin D602. Thanks.

  13. how do you know what exchange rate is being used by Princess when purchasing OBC online? I have a hold on a February 2016 cruise. Yesterday, out of curiosity, I went into my booking and pretended to buy an OBC of $100. The price on the website is already in Canadian Funds so how can I tell what exchange rate they are using? Is it only when I enter my credit card information and complete the purchase that I can find out? I can't see any way to see how much US funds will actually be available to me with my $100 purchase.

I'd appreciate your help - as always!

    Camelia

I just tried it and the option was for CA $120. Since I booked the cruise at 20% I can only think that for the $120 I will get US $100.

  14. I would also give very strong consideration to Virgin America on that route.

Great suggestion...wish I could! Checked them first. They only have a 9am nonstop back out to FL - so won't work w/cruise schedule.

Have you looked at one-way fares on each airline? Maybe Virgin to SFO and either AA or JetBlue back?

  15. Exactly.

I'm on vacation. If I have to pay 3% more for the convenience of a credit card and not having to change money (at a bad rate) and maybe having some left over, I'm using the credit card every time.

But.... Just about every place in the Caribbean will accept US$ (cash) !

  16. Just remember to cross your fingers and pray nothing happens to you (sick or hurt) that requires medical attention and/or evacuation. Gonna be hard to explain to the authorities in the US how you got injured there when you weren't supposed to be going there.

Hmm...wonder if your insurance would pay if the claim occurred during that illegal activity? Certainly would be "out of network" :D

For Cdns, we have to provide proof of medical insurance when entering Cuba. I don't know how relevant this is, but here's a quote from GoCuba.ca that US residents might like to know....

"Residents in the United States traveling to Cuba on direct flights from United States will have to acquire their insurance policy at their country from Cuban insurance companies available through out agencies associated with Havanatur-Celimar Company. US insurance companies do not provide coverage in the Cuban national territory.

Travelers that upon the arrival are subject to control, shall present a policy, insurance certificate or travelling assistance card valid for the time span they will stay in Cuba."

I can only assume this would be the same for cruises.

  17. The concourses at DCA are small so there isn't a huge amount of distance on the actual concourse. Yes, you need to go to the lower level to catch the bus between concourse but there is an elevator. How long is your connection? Please note that there is a difference between a stopover and a connection.

I guess, in a round-about way, I was trying to find out how long, or how far the connection would be should I have to change concourses and also, what the procedure would be.

If you mean how long is the layover - it's 1+45 so probably quite doable.

I don't really think we would have to change concourses since for 3 days the flights from SYR and FLL all have left from the same one. (I know that can change at any time). Don't know what gate 35X means.... suspect it's a ground entry gate used by RJs but is the only gate used by flights from SYR on these 3 days.

    Thanks for the help.
