  1. Hi, I believe I read somewhere on CC the other day about a new sale coming! Does anyone have any definite information about when it will start? what perks, etc.

We are booked for October 29, on Anthem, and was just wondering if I can expect something better than I have.

Glad to see DD is still in place, as we were looking to try the 4 different dining venues.

Any insight and information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks all in advance and safe travels always.

  2. Good day,

With so much back and forth, guessing, hear-say and the like, I'm getting so confused...We've been on over 25 cruises, and never do I recall such dining issues...

The long and short of this is: Have they official changed to ? If DD (Anytime). are we 'stuck" in only 2 out of the 4 dining rooms? Can we switch if need be once on board?

We have made our dining reservations for all 4 venues at our time, for our Oct. 29, 12 night Western Carib. cruise.

Is there somewhere we can look for official notification?

Thanks to all in advance for your help.

    Safe travels always :-)

  3. Hi, Dawn docks at the Dockyard, not in town!! I do not think any ships dock in Hamilton any more.........There's always the Ferry or bus........Nice. We prefer the Ferry!

Have a great cruise. We may be going Oct 16 or Oct 23rd, we'll see. Just trying to find out if the weather is warmer Oct 16 and maybe less rain?

  4. Hi, I think if they keep DD utilizing all 4 main DR's, everyone could choose their own time, venue to dine and have the best of all....

This is just MY opinion. No flaming..thanks!

Typical -- perhaps! Logical: definitely...5/1/ is supposed to be "the" day for whatever change will occur. Time will tell...............

Have a nice Sunday everyone :-)

  5. Hi, we are thinking of Bermuda (again) mid to late October, 2016 on the Breakaway. Do you remember how the weather was at that time....Any good information about the Breakaway, regarding dining, shows, etc. would be most appreciated.

    Glad you enjoyed....

  6. I book early, and when the 'deals' happen, I call my TA or Royal and they match it. You just have to watch and let them know, as they don't do it automatically. On my upcoming 5/29 cruise, I called twice since booking when the price dropped.

This sale isn't that great! Price on thus sale is about $800+ MORE than we paid to book!!! Yes, we only get an OBC and have to pay $324 in tips... Yes, you get the grats on this one, as OBC, but it CANNOT be combined with C&A. One or the other.

    We'll never win!!!

  7. Cruisers who just love to cruise might find you too fussy. But, destination cruisers like us agree RCI itineraries are too restrictive. Worse with the mega ships some small ports are inaccessible, such as Georgetown.

So we sail on other lines as well. Our goal is to visit all the Caribbean islands including some of the smaller ones that are only reached by ferries.

HI, There is a very nice 12 western Caribbean cruise Oct 29, '16 from Bayonne on the Anthem...If you have the time, you want to check it out.

Princess does a nice Partial or fun Panama Canal..we've done both. Lovely!!

  8. Just ask your friendly room steward to grab you an ash tray....or take one from the pool deck...always seems to be plenty out there! (Jk/src)

What ship now still allows smoking on the balcony? I only know of Holland. Princess lets you use an E-cig in the cabin? Pretty strange for that and not on the balcony. No odor at all.

  9. Help me understand. Why is it so important not to let RCCL or any cruise line "hold" you money for several months? I know personally, I do not "borrow" money to cruise, and the definition of "borrow" is the use of a credit card and finance it for the next 12 months. Rather I pay for it with current money. Once I pay tips, I really don't care how long they have it. I paid it, and it's a done deal. Forgotten about. Totally irrelevant in my mind.

I go on many trips that I paid for it completely as much as 6 months early. My next trip, I paid for it 8 months early.

On another note, tips, are way too low for them. I have never found a reason to remove them. Maybe I can't grasp why it such a big deal to be in control of it.

I personally wish, they would include the "tips" in the cruise fare, and eliminate all the drama, and in particular from many that come from other countries that are confused about USA's way. I know when I travel, I get sometimes confused with European's ways. So just simplify it and bury it in the cost.

Just to clarify. I don't finance. Put down deposit. When that bill is in, paid off in full. Same thing with final payment....Also, we pay the charge for whatever we do or buy while away. Again, no finance or no finance charge....it's all good.

If there comes a good promo and the tips are already paid, we may not get that back if grats are a new promo. I don't need to fight with my credit card to dispute the charges for3 months after I'm home. I'd never remove the daily grats. The employees work so hard.

  10. That is great and I hope you have a wonderful cruise, but why are you quoting me? Did I say something that you thought was directed at you? BTW.....my cruise on the Anthem is right before yours. I MIGHT return the ship and I MIGHT not. We'll see.

Sorry about 'quoting you"....Didn't really mean to do that. Just spaced out and grabbed the first post about tipping Hope you have a great time. Please return the ship for us :-) Thanks, and again, my apology!

  11. And he will bore you to death.

Just got our "official" notice from our T/A..going up to $13.50 p/p p/d for interior, balcony. Higher ups will be $16.50 p/d p/p. Therefore, instead of the tipping being $310 for 2 people for 12 nights, it wlll be $324. for 2,

Personally for the $14.00 more on a 12 night cruise, I don't need RCI to hold my money till the end of October.(7 months). So we'll have the daily charge. Who knows, there probably be another sale or two before we go and they'll free grats included. Not like the promo now running! It stinks. With all the hype about the deal, we are still $200 under the best deal...It's C&A OR Grats. Not both...

  13. They do not hold the cigarettes until the last night of the cruise to deliver to your cabin. Liquor purchases are held until the last night...not cigarettes.

You are correct and as of Nov 2015, on Princess, we brought the cartons of cigs directly to our room. Liquor was end till end of cruise.

Also, in town in St. Thomas. they delivered "FREE" to the ship. They were held till the lat night. We asked our cabin steward to bring them to the cabin for us which he did. Worth the couple of $ not to drag down to get the 10 cartons...

  14. I was a Marlboro Menthol smoker, but after looking at the prices and smoking the alternatives I have become a convert.

Now it is Pall Mall Menthol 100's.

At the unheard of price of $20 a carton.

If you are on an Eastern Caribbean cruise you can buy 5 cartons legally.

FYI: Back in the 50's when I first started smoking Pall Mall's sold for 26 cents a pack.

Hi, we were on the Regal Princess Oct. 2015. In St. Thomas, my DH bought 5 cartons as did I. After the fact, we read it has now been changed to only FOUR (4) CARTONS, p/p. Luckily, through customs, we declared the 5th carton each, explaining we did not know the change or when it occurred....Been buying 5 each the last 20 years. He was very nice and let us go through because we told him the truth.

Just a heads up! The 4 carton rule is for St. Thomas or maybe on the ship?).

    Have fun :-)

PS Does anyone know the rule for purchasing cartons of cigs on the Western Carib. route? thanks very much!

  16. WOW, we really missed out one this one. I did say guest services was run by airheads in my review. Not only did two different people from guest services tell us the wrong time for the CC party and cause us to miss it, we were also told that adding text was $15 per day per device. That was the same as internet, we did not bring our laptops, so did not sign up. I did question her about the price for only text on the ship.

We really could have used this............darn!!! Not much communication or correct answers from guest services.

Hi, I have an old, flip Verizon cell. I don't use it often at all, so I'm not upgrading just yet. Will the service work on this phone? I don't mind paying the #7.95 for the 12 days we'll be gone to check in with family every few days. Also, would it pay to drag my laptop? is there an extra charge for that use? If so, how much per day or trip?

    Thanks for your help.

  17. I like this idea. It seems pragmatic.

    Tom

Just my personal thought. I they can figure out a way to utilize the 4 MDR for MTD, keeping it that cruisers can pic and choose their venue and time, it could work. Traditional diners could pick and time and specific restaurant(s) for their preference. If all other cruise lines have figured this out, why not RCI for Anthem! We're booked for 12 night upcoming Oct, picked times and venues for MTD. Sure hope it stays in place or very little minor adjustments.

Again, this is just MY personal thought and opinion. In respect all rights and hope others will do likewise.

    Thanks for reading.

  18. I have to give a big pat on the back to whoever designed the standard balcony cabins on Anthem Of The Seas. They did a REALLY nice job... incorporating some really smart design features in to the cabin to make some great improvements over the balcony cabins on other cruise ships I've been on.

One good example of the thoughtful design:

The curtains use a two-track system. In other words, the left half of the curtains are on one track and the right half of the curtains have their own track. The reason this is smart is that when you go to close the curtains, you can overlap them by a good 12 inches or so. This allows you to completely black out the cabin... great if you like to take naps mid-day, or if you like to sleep in past sunrise. Most cruise ship curtains just have one track. Where the left and right meet in the middle put can't overlap... so it's hard to completely black out the cabin, as there is always a little gap between the curtains.

    Another example:

There's a 110 volt AC outlet next to the bed. This is perfect for people who use a CPAP machine at night, or for anyone who wants their phone to charge at night but wants to keep it next to them as they sleep. (For example, to use it as a clock in the morning.) In addition to the power outlet at the bed, there are two at the desk, plus two USB charging ports. So, you could actually charge FOUR electronic items at the desk at the same time, without the need for bringing a power strip. Thank you Royal Caribbean, for recognizing that folks in 2016 bring multiple gadgets that all need to be charged at night! Also, the two AC outlets at the desk are far enough apart that when you plug a battery charger in to one, it does not block the other outlet. Very smart.

Those are just two small examples of the smart design they used in the cabins on Anthem Of The Seas. To see more, take a look at this cabin tour video that I put together:

Hi, what a great job with this video! Thank you so much. We will be sailing on her Oct. 29, 11th deck regular balcony cabin (D6).... So looking forward to this cruise. Hope they work out the dining issues way before then. We're already signed up for Dynamic at 7i:15, our choice of restaurants. Really hope we can keep this plan. Thanks again and if you have an info you'd like to share, we'll listening. We live in NJ so no flying required....almost the best part of the trip :-)

    Safe travels always.

  19. If we re-book, we would lose the pre-paid gratuities, right? Just want to make sure I completely understand how that would work so we don't lose out on anything. :)

RCI has NO free grats with this current promo. 30% off...not that big a deal. Also, if RCI gives an OBC and you rebook, you will probably lose the OBC...

Also waiting to see what next offer is on the Anthem for October...maybe a nice price drop would be great :-)

  20. Good day cruisers,

Just wondering if anyone out there has an "inside track" with regard to any new promo for the Anthem (RCI) after 4/3, when this promo expires?

Looking for possible price drops for Oct. 20 or Oct 29th sailing from NJ.

I'm not even asking about any new news with regard to dining in the MDR...too much already being discussed on these boards about that, but, if anyone knows anything for certain, without speculation, please feel free to share your info.

Looking forward to cruising on the Anthem....

    Safe travels to all.

  21. Most of what you post here are free. If you want bacon, eggs, pancakes, French toast, etc. that all costs money!!

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Thank you!! We save the 'good stuff' for MDR or WJ. That menu is more than fine!!

Now,if they just settle on the dining plans, that would be perfect :-)

  22. Yes, and the complimentary items were extremely sparse.. But the Continental breakfast worked for us on the mornings we just wanted to sleep in :)

do you know what items are free for room service cabin breakfast on the Anthem? thanks. we do not need much, i.e. cold cereal, bananas, juice, pastries, coffee. We do that some Port days.

    Thanks very much in advance.
