  1. I saw outdoor glass-walled in areas on the pool deck for smokers, it was pretty big and they had lots of furniture. It was right outside the indoor pool area, at the outdoor pool deck. As for a cigar bar, sorry I don't know. Not sure what you mean about smoking on formal nights. Smoking areas would be the same all the time, right? Anyway the smoking area on the pool deck seemed nicely designed for the comfort and shelter of the smokers.

Thanks, sounds like that will be just fine! I meant smoking in the Casino on Formal Nights! I wonder if that area near the pool is near the Solarium area? Thanks again. I just don't know what deck is starboard side for smoking. Still trying to find out which 'bar' or club might have smoking?

  2. I don't know specifically about Anthem, but ever since Royal prohibited smoking on stateroom balconies, they no longer have smoke-free nights in the casino on formal nights.

Thanks! I thought casino still was 'smoke free' on formal nights! that's good. Can spend more money there, cause we'd stay longer LOL

  3. Thanks for your reply. I did read about the refurb. late April/May, but do not know the nature. We might consider Deck 9, as it is 'sandwiched between 2 decks.....We are also 'laid back' people. I do hate having to pay for water slides, rock climbing, bumper cars, etc., when we are not interested in any of that - ever :-) Give us a decent, smaller ship, skip the non-essential things, decent food and entertainment, nice cabin and we are happy!

Off the Regal Princess from our Oct. cruise. They can keep the big ships...Didn't enjoy and won't do very large ever again...

    Safe sails to you

  4. Hi cruisers,

We are thinking about a cruise Oct. 2016 on the Sun, (frm San Diego) 11 night Mexican Riveria. I keep reading all the older posts with nothing much new.

Anyone sailed on her recently who can give me some 'new' info of interest which could help us?

I do see she is due to be refurbished late April/May, 2016 in San Fran...Does anyone have a solid connection to the "grapevine" with actual information?

Also, if anyone had a BD Balcony, near rear elevators, any input about the cabin would be most appreciated.

    Thanks so much in advance.

Safe sails to all always. :-)

  5. I am from this Universe!! We've been on at least 15 Princess cruises, all different ships, so I know what I'm talking about....

All I can say is "different strokes for different folks".....

After 25 years of cruising many lines, and I did for the most part love Princess, I think I'm done with this line. They are not what they used to be. They are losing some of the loyals.

    Have good cruises.

  6. Thanks for your reply, Kim...If we go, we'll figure it out. Right now prices are high for balconies + air fare from NJ to SAN. Oct. '16 is a way off. Will follow the prices for several months and decide. We were on Regal Princess repo in Oct. BIG ship. very pretty...a bit of negatives over-weighed the positives, sorry to say. Think we'll stick to smaller, friendlier ships as in the past.

    Happy and safe Holidays!

  7. You are correct! We couldn't even find a porter so we had to drag 2 huge pieces of luggage, a pilot case and tote bag across the street. What a disaster!!! my poor daughter kept driving around until she saw us across the street...Horrible! Then we saw cars lining up to pick up the passengers. 1, 2 3 and NO running across the street! Live and learn and be safe!

  8. I thought I read that you no longer can adjust/remove daily service charge on NCL....Please correct me if I'm wrong! We need to bring back Kevin Sheehan..DelRio is so wrong...NCL will never be a Regent ship!!! They just need to improve some things and mot charge ala carte in specialty restaurants. They are certainly started to lose cruisers to other lines. JMHO.

    Safe sails everyone.

  9. Hi, love. love, love your reviews and pictures!!! thank you. We're thinking of the Sun October 2016. Any suggestions as to which side lets you see the port areas? We usually book portside for that reason. Also, any input, which you haven't already stated, with regard to good cabins portside? we're thinking of 8th or 9th deck, BD category, toward back elevator. How has the food been? hope not over salty :-) I'm 5'2",can I stand in the pool? I do not swim and my feet must touch the bottom LOL. Thanks so much in advance and do keep up the excellent reviews. Safe sails to you always :-)

  10. Hi we were on the Regal 10-24, 10 day repo. Hate to burst your bubble, but nothing much really. A balloon drop where everyone pops what they can..A fancy, little dessert from Norman Love one night and that was about it! Very disappointing. A big deal about the 50th...nothing special....Ship is huge! put on your walking shoes. Hope you don't have anytime dining! That was a disaster. They need to learn from RCI and NCL. I'm sure you'll have a good cruise anyway.

    Safe sails.
