  1. I am intrigued about the alcohol package (rum and 4 cokes) delivered to your stateroom. While it isn't a deal at all, it would be so convenient to mix an evening drink and have on the balcony. My question is, do you think they would trade my Coke for Diet Coke? I wouldn't think it would be a problem but you never know.

  2. We were advised to book tickets for the AquaTheatre show the first night. That is when the water is the smoothest... and if they do cancel the show for rough water or weather, then you have several other times through the week to reschedule. It is a great show and it would be a shame to wait all week to see it and then it be cancelled for some other reason. Any show could get cancelled at anytime but the AquaTheatre show would be the most likely because of weather and diver safety during rough waters.

  3. For adults or couples... you're OK. We knew not to take our kids. After Freedom and Allure, they'd be pretty miserable.

We actually talked to a lot of "families" who were disappointed in the activities and things to do for kids. They even said Adventure ocean wasn't as good as it should be.

Like I said, for my wife and I... we accomplished what we wanted... a week of R&R with no schedules!

  4. I would encourage boarding as early as possible... as mentioned,d you are paying for it. Might as well enjoy it.

As far as things to take, it is so subjective. The must-haves are gonna be different for everyone. I have found myself searching for a notepad and pen before... every now and then we leave a note for each other about where were gonna be, etc. or need to leave the stateroom attendant a request.

My wife always takes a small first aid kit with the basics, antibiotic ointment, bandaids, etc.... and safety-pins. She has needed/used safety pins fairly often and has even given them to fellow cruisers who were in a mind for something.

Another tip I'd suggest... unless we have a busy day planned at a port, we typically tend to do the opposite of most people.... when they're in line busting to get off he ship, we like to stay on... usually have the pool, etc. to ourselves. Then, later in the morning/afternoon, we get off the ship while the others are coming back on. Of course, that all depends on your time, etc. in port.

  5. To each their own... but I would never think of watching a movie on a cruise.... maybe one out on the pool deck on the big screen but that would be stretching it. I can watch movies at home! I'd never be able to set for 2 hours and watch a movie, I'd be too worried about what I was missing around the ship. I guess it is just the way I am wired, but I have a hard time even wanting to sleep on a ship... I'd much rather be out and about seeing the sights and sounds for myself. Anything on a screen can wait 7 days for me to get back.

  6. We were on the Grandeur a couple months ago... the dress was very lax. We saw a bit of everything. There were shorts in the dining room, even on formal night.

We saw tank tops on other nights.

A pair of pants and a collared shirt would be appropriate. You will see some in a suit and tux also... but you will see plenty who aren't.

RCCL doesn't enforce the policy much, if at all, IMO

  7. We were on Grandeur last month... we left our 9 and 11 year old at home with grandparents. They went on their own vacation to a couple amusement parks. The Grandeur would not have been for them. They would have been bored beyond belief. They loved the Allure and Freedom and we are all going on Harmony next summer.

  8. My parents really enjoyed the all access tour on Allure... It was pricey but they really got to see a lot and learned just how fine-tuned things are on a ship.

I am planning on doing it on Harmony next summer just for the experience even though I have been on a galley tour and bridge tour on Freedom.

  9. Im the same way... i like to know what I am spending and not have surprises at the end.

I feel that I come out ahead on the drink packages on day 1-2 maybe even 3... but by day 4-5 i may break even, then on day 6-7 RCCL probably comes out ahead. LOL!

After my last cruise, I feel that the bar service is slower. They still are nice and friendly, it just feels slower and they may not be as anxious to serve you. In years past, I wouldn't see to many drink packages. This last cruise we took, almost everyone at bar had a package.

Im just venturing that tips are lower now with packages... people are less apt to tip an extra buck or two with a package than if they were paying for each drink.
