  1. As of 2/10 Staggered Check In was still a suggestion in Long Beach. If this is no longer the case, check your bags and check out the Queen Mary. Show your boarding pass as Carnival pax get some consideration over there. We arrived around noon and had minimal wait.

SadieN - if we show our Carnival boarding pass at the Queen Mary in LB what might it get us? Is there some kind of discount for touring?

  2. Hi,

We are going to be on the Splendor from 3/31-4/7 and I am curious what is the earliest likely time that we can get off the ship using self-assist. It is my daughter’s birthday that day and we are meeting friends at Universal Studios the day we get off the ship so we want to get off as early as possible. What is the earliest time you have gotten off the Splendor in Long Beach?

Have you seen the Funtimes and debarkation info posted recently on this other thread? https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2604074 That will likely give you the answers about debarking times.

  3. I am hoping it is worth it for us. We are trying FTTF for the first time for our family group of 10 with 4 young children. We are cruising out of Long Beach and arrive at LAX that morning just before 0900. So we are hoping to get checked in and boarded as soon as possible since we will have had a very early start in the morning. No place for us to hang out after arrival at LAX, so might as well get on the ship and into our rooms to drop luggage/carry-ons and then start exploring the ship and eating! A little concerning to hear that Long Beach may not be enforcing staggered checkin or boarding times as otherwise the only advantage for us might be immediate room access to drop our things. Would prefer not to drag around our things along with the little people in tow!

  4. Too bad that the ship technology did not support your live report with pics etc. Must have been frustrating for you since you went to the trouble to take your equipment. Perhaps this was a blessing in disguise so you could spend more time enjoying your cruise. When you get time post cruise, it would be wonderful to see copies of the Funtimes or any pics that you want to share. I am curious to hear about the disembarkation today and if there were specific times for FTTF (how early could FTTF start disembarking and what was the latest option for disembarking). If they post disembarking times on a notice, it would be great to see a copy of that.

  5. For our upcoming March cruise, I booked 3 staterooms including 2 room of 4 for our children and grandchildren. In each case the 3rd person was higher than the first two and then the 4th person dropped below. I asked three different carnival cruise consultants and no one could explain it including a supervisor except to say it is all done by computer calculation formula dividing the total room rate over the 4 people even though it is not evenly divided. Absolutely makes no sense particularly given that the one grandchild who is a previous Carnival passenger had the highest rate!

  6. Spoke to some of the check in people in Long Beach. Staggered Check In is still just a suggestion.

Sadie, interesting that LB port staff are saying check in time is just a suggestion. Really unfortunate that Carnival is so inconsistent as that undermines their processes of check in, including for passengers with priority check in and FTTF purchased check in and boarding.

  7. We will be cruising on Splendor next month and I see they have the Clue Murder Mystery on the itinerary. I have read some past comments about this being largely a marketing mechanism to get people to attend events, bingo, sales talks etc. in order to get the clues and solve the mystery. Is this still the case?

  8. I have embarkation day from the current Splendor cruise. How do I upload it? When I click the pic icon asks for a url....?

You first have to upload your pictures to a site such as flickr and then:

How do I add an image to a post?

If you have uploaded an image as an attachment, you can click the arrow next to the 'Attachment Icon' and select it from the list. This will be inserted into your post and can be located where you want it displayed.

To include an image that is not uploaded as an attachment and is located on another website, you can do so by copying the full URL to the image, (not the page on which the image is located), and either pressing the 'Insert Image' icon or by typing before the URL and after it, ensuring that you do not have any spaces before or after the URL of the image. You can insert pictures from your albums in this way too.

  9. For those asking about how close the boats get for whale watching. We have done whale watching in Vancouver, Maui, Australia and Alaska. The boats try to stay a certain required distance away but keep in mind the whales are moving and often at high speed. Each time we have been whale watching, the whales have ended up being right beside our boats or even swimming under them, so we have had the opportunity to see them very close without any zoom. Amazing creatures!

  10. It never even occurred to me that we would need to suggest that someone bring a passport when going to a foreign country. I thought that was automatic and required. Most cruises we have been on someone has taken seriously ill or had a serious injury or a serious family matter back home that has resulted in not being able to carry on with the cruise, If that happens and you don't have a passport, how are you going to fly home from the foreign country?
