  1. I have a few more questions:

    1. Are taxis easily accessible at the port?

    2. How much is the estimated taxi cost to West Quay?

    3. Is the train station within walking distance (less than 15 minutes?) from the West Quay mall?

    4. Are taxis easily accessible at the mall and/or train station?

    Thank you!

Sorry, besides the above mentioned questions, I still have two more questions. To make it easier, I will just combine all my questions:

    1. Are taxis easily accessible at the port?

    2. How much is the estimated taxi cost to West Quay?

    3. Is the train station within walking distance (less than 15 minutes?) from the West Quay mall?

    4. Are taxis easily accessible at the mall and/or train station?

    5. Is there any ATM in the West Quay mall?

    6. Is there any ATM in the train station?

I have 20 pounds left from my previous cruise, and I wonder if that is enough for the taxi to get me to the West Quay mall or wherever there is an ATM.

    Thank you.

  2. Southampton has a lovely shopping centre (Mall) called West Quay. You will see it from your ship (just look for the John Lewis sign). The port is a very short taxi trip away from West Quay (about 5 mins) but not really ideal for walking. You will also see the largest Ikea on the South Coast of England from your ship! There are representatives of all the main UK chain stores both in and around West Quay. The train station is also close by.

Places to visit by train ...

Winchester (very historical - Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table),

    Bournemouth (typical british seaside town),

Portsmouth (Naval Heritage with HMS Victory - Nelson's flagship)

Salisbury (pretty city with lovely cathedral)

Chichester (another pretty city with lovely cathedral and lots of shops)

Stonehenge is about an hour away but you will need to go by train to Salisbury then a bus to Stonehenge. There is no train station at Stonehenge!

London is about one hour 45 mins by non-stop train.

  3. Hi Arelis,

Do you know how long you have in port? It will have a significant bearing on your options.

Want to stay in Southampton city? It has some minor sights, OK for a lazy day. Or get out of town?

Happy to go to places out of town by train? (a number of interesting places by simple frequent direct trains, no changes.) Or stick to a private tour?

    Countryside? Cities? History?

    JB :)

    Hi JB,

Our port call in Southampton will be from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. on May 8 (Thursday). We are interested in DIY. Could you kindly suggest sights/shopping we can see/do in Southampton (please also suggest means of transportation from the port) and also some out of town places we can do by frequent direct trains?

    Thank you.

  4. Instead of taking the bus, I am thinking maybe we (four of us) can pick up a taxi at the LeHavre pier and have the driver drops us off at Honfleur's old port (Vieux Bassin). Then we can spend 4-6 hours on our own for sightseeing/shopping/eating... Then we can get a taxi and take us back to the LeHavre port.

Last year at the LeHavre port, I remember seeing a lot of taxis at the pier (we didn't use the taxi; we took Princess' shuttle to LeHavre town). So I don't see any problem getting a taxi to take us to Honfleur.

My concern is, will it be difficult to find a taxi at Honfleur's old port to take us back to LeHavre's port?

    Any input would be appreciated!!

  5. We took a bus to Honfleur from LeHarve. It was an easy transport and we had a wonderful day. Paris was too far to consider as a day trip. If you are a photographer you will love Honfleur, get your camera ready!

In May, one of our cruise ports will be LeHavre. We will be there on a Monday. We plan to go to Honfleur. Could you kindly answer the following questions?

    1. Where is the bus station?

    2. From the port, how do you get to the bus station?

    3. If you took the taxi to the bus station, how much was the taxi fare?

    4. If you walked to the bus station, how long was your walk?

    5. Where did you find the bus route timetable?

    6. How often do the buses run? How long was the ride?

    7. How much was the bus fare? Is exact change required?

    8. After you arrived at Honfleur's bus station, how far (by taxi/walk) to town?

    9. Did you take the return bus back to LeHavre port?

    10. For the going & returning buses, were there a lot of passengers? Were you able to find seats? Buses available at least once each hour?

I am sorry that I have so many questions :D; I just want to be clear (in order for me to decide if I should take the bus or a taxi).

Thank you in advance for your assistance. :)

  6. Anyone knows how much does it cost for a minivan taxi (for 6 persons) from the Livorno cruise port to Pisa's Leaning Tower? Also, how much time does the ride take?

From various threads, I know the taxi cost from the port to the Livorno train station is about 20 euro; train to Pisa Central station about 8 euro/person; and I estimated the cost of taxi from Pisa Central station to the Leaning Tower to be about 15 euro (we don't want to walk the 1.5 miles or wait an hour to transfer to the train station that is closer walk to the Leaning Tower). Which adds up to about 14 euro/person; so for the six of us, the total will be around 84 euro. I was just wondering maybe the cost of taking the minivan taxi directly from the port to the Leaning Tower might not be too much higher.

    Thank you.
