  1. $80.00 per person is crazy.

The taxi/van drivers will be waiting at the port. They will drive you to the top of the rock, stop including the cave and a tunnel and the apes and either bring you back to the ship or leave you on Main Street. We planned on the walk to the cable cars our first visit but were talked into the taxi tour from the graveyard when we got that far. We've done it again because it is fun. Don't miss watching the planes landing.

They'll quote in Euros or sterling.

Do you remember how much you paid for the tour? We have 9 people, and if we all go, we might need 2 cars or even 3 cars.

    Thanks.

  2. JB and DSRDSRDSR,

Yes, I thought $80/person for the 3-hour tour is kind of high. The people on my roll call obviously do not think so. :D So far, 9 groups of 8 people in each group from our roll call booked the 3-hour Rock tour at $80/person.

Since 4 of us already took the cable car up to the Rock and saw the view and the apes, I am going to wait until we arrive at the port to see what taxi tours will be available and then the other 5 people can decide what they want to do.

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions/comments. :)

  3. Thank you JB.

Four of us visited Gibraltar in the past; it will be 1st visit for the other 5 people. On our last visit, four of us took the cable car up to the Rock and saw the view and the apes. The other 5 people said they don't really care to see cave/apes/tunnel. I did check the Rock tour, and the cost is $80/person for a 3 hour tour and their van can only take 8 people.

Maybe we will just stay around Main St. We will be there on a Sunday, so most of the shops will probably be closed.

  4. Thank you JB. :)

We visited Gibraltar in June 2010 (also a cruise stop). Back then, we took the taxi from port to Casemates Square. We then walked to the Cable car station and took the cable car up to the Rock. Afterward, we spent about 2 hours on Main St. I remember there was not much to see on Main St., and we ended up spending 2 hours at an internet café. Since this time we have 9 people, I am thinking of walking to the Casemates Square so the others know the route to walk back to the ship later (since we already visited, the two of us plan to go back to the ship around 1 p.m.; unless we find more places to explore).

Yesterday I found the map that I got from the Gibraltar tourist office, and on the map, it shows a lot of bus stops on Europa Road. We only stayed on Main Street last time, and wonder if there are many sites to see or things to do on Europa Road. Have you been on Europa Road before?

  5. Does anyone know how long it takes to walk to the town center from the Princess cruise terminal? Is it a easy walk? Anyone can give me the walking directions?

If taking a taxi, how long is the ride and the taxi fare? There are probably plenty of taxis at the cruise terminal, but will it be difficult to find a taxi (around 2 p.m.) from the town center back to the cruise terminal?

There will be 9 of us, and I am afraid it might be difficult finding several taxis to take us back; so walking would be our alternative.

Thank you in advance for any assistance/suggestions.:)

I think I found Madeira Happy Tours on Tripadvisor. I sent them a couple of emails before I booked with them and I was happy with the service and speed of their answers. Plus, we only paid at the end of the tour and no deposit.

I sent them an e-mail and they responded within 24 hours. Now they require a credit card to hold the booking. If I have a choice, I prefer not to give my credit card information. So I think I am going to use DanielMadeiraTaxi tour; they don't require credit card information. I can pay at the end of the tour.

We did a half day tour with Madeira Happy Tours, but it was a long half day. I can't remember the name of the guide, but he had lived in South Africa for years and so, had excellent English.

The reason we didn't do one of the full day tours is because my OH doesn't like mountain roads. I worked in Madeira many years ago and knew he would have a panic as the roads are very mountainous.

The whole island is extremely pretty, so whichever trip you choose I don't think you will be disappointed. I also recommended the tour company to my friend's parents and they went with them a year or so ago and were very pleased.

There is a thread about them somewhere on CC. They get good reviews both here and on Tripadvisor.

    Thank you for your information.

I see a lot of CC posts on DanielMadeira Taxi tour, but don't recall seeing posts on Madeira Happy Tour. I will do a search.

  8. Yes if its your 50th birthday or 50th wedding anniversary there are "gifts". If you cruise during the month of your anniversary or birthday it is $50 OBC, if it is in 2015 you get a bottle of wine.

    Julie

I spent my birthday on a Princess cruise during the last 5 years, and I never received any $50 OBC. Can you please tell me what I need to do to get that OBC? This year, I will also be spending my birthday on a Princess cruise. Thank you.

  9. Croatian Kuna is our legal currency, it must be accepted by all vendors. Being part of the European Union does not automatically permit a country to change currency overnight. The exchange rate you will receive for Euros will be very poor. I strongly suggest that you obtain Kunas at any of our many ATM machines.

Libertas bus will only accept Kuna, fare is 15 Kuna per person. The city wall, Franciscan & Dominican Monasteries, Rectors Palace, Rupe Musuem only accept Kuna. Enjoy your time here.

    Thank you for the information.:)

  10. If you're a cheapskate like me, you'll be happy to know there are buses that go from the cruise/ferry port to outside the old town. See libertasdubrovnik.hr

Just as a heads up: You may need Croatian kunas for sightseeing in Dubrovnik. Not all places take euros. For example, to walk the wall, kunas or a credit card is needed.

Karen, those are some fantastic photos!

Do the buses take euros or must have exact change in Kunas? Do you remember how much was your bus fare?

    Thank you.

  11. We have used BCN Travel several times for transportation from port to Barcelona airport. Everytime they have been waiting right there where you exit the terminal building, with a sign with our name on it, even when we were out much earlier than the time reserved. As soon as you exit the building you will see people holding up signs from different companies with the names of the persons they are waiting for. From the time we got off the ship, picked up our luggage and found our driver and into the van it maybe took a total of 15 minutes.

Being a control freak I have always sent them a reconfirmation for the pick up a few days before.

Thank you for the information. There will be 9 of us, and I was told I need to book their 13 person mini bus; which is fine. Since payment is due at time of reservation, I will make my reservation about 3 weeks before my pick up day (which is just before we leave for our 17 day cruise). I will send them a reconfirmation while I am on the ship a few days before.

  12. I've booked them too for our group of 11. Wondering if we should all just get taxi's on the day of disembarkation just in case - I cant seek us all lugging our luggage to outside the terminal. Being a newbie in Barcelona, I am worried as our flight is at 10:30 - hoping everyone is capable of self disembark.

They finally replied. They sent me a walking map from the ship exit to the pick up point; it seems like it is quite close to the ship exit.

  13. Don't forget that you can sign up for your birthday on the princess personalizer. On the day you choose (presumably your birthday) you will have a sign and balloons on your door and there will be a voucher for a small cake.

If you take the voucher to dinner in the MDR, they will serve up the cake and get everyone at surrounding tables to sing Happy Birthday.

Just go to the bottom of the Guest checkin section you can put your name, the day you want to celebrate and type of event (birthday) and you will be good to go.

I couldn't find it in my Princess personalizer. Please advise.:)

  14. Anyone ever used Riviera Team Service for 1/2 day or full day tour? They do private tours from Monte Carlo to Antibes, St. Paul de Vence, Nice...

If you have been on any of their tours, were you satisfied with their tours/service?

    Thank you.
