  1. U.S. dollars are accepted in all three islands. I did see a grocery store away from the main shopping area a few blocks where the prices were just in local currency. I think the last time we were there we bought something and received change in local coins. We did not buy anything this time.

There were independent tour operators near the pier in all three islands. They offered things such as city tours, island tours to various spots, snorkeling, beach tours, plus lots of taxis that will take you to popular places (or anywhere you want to go). Check out the boards for the specific islands here on Cruise Critic for some great tips or to ask specific questions.

The walk to downtown Curacao is about 10 minutes. It's flat and not much traffic. If the pontoon bridge is open for a boat to go through, you'll have to take the free water taxi, which adds a few minutes, or wait for the bridge to close.

Thank you so much for your valuable information.

  2. I have a few more questions:

    1. I read somewhere that Aruba's currency is Aruban Florin. Is USD acceptable in most shops or I need to get Aruban Florin?

    2. Curacao and Bonaire use USD?

    3. At all three ports, do you remembering seeing independent tour operators offering tours at the port?

    4. Walking to Curacao downtown (across the pontoon bridge) is a easy walk? On flat road? Not too much car traffic? Will the walk take over 30 minutes?

    Thank you for your time.:)

  3. We had a relaxing day in Aruba. We got off the ship after breakfast for a walk around the downtown area then headed back to the ship. It was very hot. A lot of folks on our roll call thread worried about the rainy forecast for this week. It did not rain yesterday in Curacao but there were some brief showers this afternoon in Aruba.

Thank you for the report. We will be on the 1/28 sailing.

How far is the walk from the ship to Aruba downtown? Is there enough to do or see at downtown for several hours?

May I ask what you did in Curacao? Is the walk to downtown from the ship a long distance?

    Thank you.

  4. We will be arriving MIA airport on 9/5 (Labor day) around 9 a.m. and need to get to Miami's Carnival cruise port around 11 a.m.

    Questions:

    1. How long is the drive from MIA airport to cruise port?

    2. Is taking taxi the best option for just the two of us?

    3. How much is the taxi fare?

    4. If I just tell the driver to take us to the Carnival port, will he/she knows the address? This is our first time taking a cruise departing from Florida.

    Thank you.

  5. We will be arriving on AA flight at the Narita airport on Saturday at 4 p.m. We will be staying at the:

    APA Hotel Shinagawa Sengakuji Eki-Mae

    108-0074 Tokyo Prefecture, Minato-ku, Takanawa 2-16-30, Japan

Besides taking the taxi, anyone have any information/suggestions how we can get from the Narita airport to our hotel?

Also, will I easily find ATMs at the Narita airport?

    Thank you.

  6. To add additional info to the above post. We booked EZair for our May 2017 trip to Rome. Selected flex air flights on UAL. After receiving confirmation from Princess, I went to the United Airlines web site and was able to select our seats. HOWEVER, the following week I again checked our UAL reservation to find that IT, THE RESERVATION was no longer listed on the UAL site. I called UAL and they told me that the reservation was removed as it was not yet paid. I checked with Princess to confirm that we still had our flights in their system. Unless we pay early we will not be able to select our seats until 45 days out etc.

So, those Folks who think you may have your seats on UAL via Princess (flex fare) may be surprised if you don't see your reservation & seats after a few days. Hopefully, next year we will be able to get two seats together for or TA flight.

The same thing happened to me. This morning I log in to my AA account and no longer see our "ticket pending" reservation for our May 2017 flights. I called AA and were told our reservation was removed as it was not yet paid. I called Princess and were told our flights are still in their system.

  7. Once we get the airline record locator, we go directly to the airline site, log in under our frequent traveler ID, and select the seats we want. It may take a couple of days for the airline to recognize the record locator (recent experience with JetBlue), but this process has worked great with American and United airlines.

It hasn't made a difference so far whether we've just booked or made final payment - the airline accepts their record locator for the reservation and allows us to make seat selections.

British Air doesn't enable advance seat selections without a charge.

So, go to the airline site and see what they support.

I go to AA site and log into account and entered the record locator for my May 2017 flight (EZAir which I booked 2 weeks ago). It does show my reservation, but it says ticket pending, so I was not able to reserve my seats. I called AA and was told Princess needs to pay for the air tickets and the status will be changed, then I can select my seats.

  8. I read on CC that you can exchange your elite mini bar setup for 2 coffee cards. If there is one Elite and one Platinum in the same cabin, and there is a mini bar setup, when you exchange the setup for coffee card, do you get 2 free coffee cards or just one coffee card? Thank you.

  9. I completed 149 cruise days, so only 1 day short to become an Elite member. My next cruise will be a 22-day cruise. Do I have to complete that cruise to become Elite member or after I completed the first day of that 22-day cruise, I can go to Captain Circle desk and request for my Elite card so I can enjoy the Elite benefits (I am mainly interested in the Free laundry benefit) starting on Day 2.

    Thank you.

  10. No. The EZair price when you booked is the price you will pay. You can go to to your personalizer for that cruise, click on the Payments & Credits and look under booking balance. The price of the airfare will be listed and that is what you will have to pay. They never change the price so it is good to watch the price in case it goes down. If it goes down you will have to take steps (either online or by calling) to get the new lower price.

I have been on several cruises where we were held at the prier waiting for the late arrival of EZair pax. Obviously they cannot wait over night but will wait a reasonable amount of time. We have waited as long as 4 hours so far.

    Thank you. :)

  11. They had Alaskan King Crab Legs in the main dining room on the Alaska Dinner night. Also, there is the Crab Shack option in the buffet, it was offered two nights for sure that I saw. It costs $29.95 per person and you buy the tickets earlier in the day before dinner (can't miss the gal walking around selling tickets, she wore a crab hat) or at the door if they don't sell out.

    Thank you.

  12. Last month, I booked our return flights for May 2017 using EZ Air. Today on my Roll Call for that cruise, quite a few mentioned the price of their EZ AIR flights dropped more than $200. So I checked my airfare, and I noticed it went up about $110/person. Since we have not paid Princess for the air tickets, will the airfare of our booked EZ Air flights be adjusted to the higher price?

    Thank you.

  13. May 31st 10 day Alaska from SFO: Just my thoughts.....

I-talian night out of Ketchikan. Went to Crown!!!!

Lobster on sea day to Victoria.

Surf and turf, and Alaskan King Crab legs out of Victoria.

    Baked Alaska on last night.

Horrible Prime Rib out of SFO

Barramundi on last night to SFO.

GREAT rib-eye on 2nd sea day

Alaskan Chowder and reindeer chili on lido deck in Glacier Bay.

Taste of Alaska( minus crab legs but GREAT venison stew ) in Lido lunch on last sea day.

Bullion station on lido deck= Salty flavored water.

MDR soups= Flour and water filler, with some hint of whatever.

Certain nights, pool grill has Bar-B-Q brisket, crab cakes, chicken wings.( no need napkin, as they make you sign out your mutts blanket so leaving your DNA on it will help in recovering it if stolen) Not a pig, just practical.

Good and Bad... But GREAT cruise.

The Alaskan King Crab legs were served in the MDR or Horizon Court buffet or Specialty Dining restaurant? Did you like it?

    Thank you.

  14. I know for certain crab legs were served in the dining room on the Coral Princess on the Wednesday night. My husband ordered them.

Also, two nights in Horizons (the buffet restaurant) they had a "Crab Shack". I'm not sure exactly what that is, but you had to pay $29 extra to eat there those nights, and I assume it was a lot of seafood.

    Thank you.

  15. Well, I never saw any, but maybe I just wasn't in the right place at the right time??? One night, they did offer the "Crab Shack" (a $29 upcharge) which did include king crab legs, but we did not go. We ate in the MDR each night except 2 nights when we paid to eat the Crown Grill (and they were not on the menu in there either).

We saved the king crab for the ports and headed over to Tracy's King Crab Shack in Juneau when we docked. Delicious!

    Thank you.

  16. We just did that cruise on the Grand Princess, ....

It is a bit off the topic of this thread, but since you just did the Alaska cruise, I have a question:

My friends will be going on the 10-day Princess Alaska cruise in July (RT San Francisco), and they asked me to post on CC to ask if Alaskan King Crabs were served on the cruise. If so, in the buffet or in the dining room?

    Thank you.
