  1. Hi,

Is there a web site that tells you where your specific cruise line/ship will dock on a given day; our date of arrival?

I am trying to find out what terminal we will arrive at.

    Thanks,

    Steve

On the Princess site, it shows:

Muelle Adosado - Terminal D - Island Princess (July 21)

I see you will be on the Emerald Princess in July. Maybe it will use the same terminal as Island Princess?

  2. ...and you can go back to all of the above places as many times as you want throughout the day/evening! Enjoy!

I am just curious - let's say you went to the Anytime dining room at 5:30 p.m. and had your dinner (I remember they will ask for your cabin #), at 8:30 p.m., can you go to the Anytime dining room again and have another dinner? :p

  3. It's all in what you feel comfortable with. We chose to spend our excursion money in Naples (Pompeii, Sorrento & Positano with RIL) and Florence (Pisa and Florence with RIL).

How was your experience with RIL for their Pisa and Florence excursion? We (27 people) will be going there in early August (port time from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.) and we are thinking of booking two 6-person minivans and two 8-person minivans with them. Thinking of doing the booking either today or tomorrow.

We are also considering RIL's Pompeii/Sorrento/Positano excursion. How was your experience with that excursion?

Thank you in advance for your assistance. :)

  4. We have 9 people and most likely need to take 3 taxis. Will we have problem finding 3 taxis (at the same time) around 10 a.m. on a Wednesday (end of April).

Hopefully all 3 taxis will arrive at the port at the same time. Just in case that is not the case, after the passengers get off from the taxi, can they tell the porter to not take their luggage yet and wait for the arrival of all 3 taxis?

I have considered booking a private shuttle (quoted $85 with gratuity included), but they requested credit card payment upon booking, and I don't really want to give out my credit card information. :D After reading this thread, it seems like it might be easier to just take taxis at the airport.

    Thank you.

  5. $80.00 per person is crazy.

The taxi/van drivers will be waiting at the port. They will drive you to the top of the rock, stop including the cave and a tunnel and the apes and either bring you back to the ship or leave you on Main Street. We planned on the walk to the cable cars our first visit but were talked into the taxi tour from the graveyard when we got that far. We've done it again because it is fun. Don't miss watching the planes landing.

They'll quote in Euros or sterling.

Do you remember how much you paid for the tour? We have 9 people, and if we all go, we might need 2 cars or even 3 cars.

    Thanks.

  6. JB and DSRDSRDSR,

Yes, I thought $80/person for the 3-hour tour is kind of high. The people on my roll call obviously do not think so. :D So far, 9 groups of 8 people in each group from our roll call booked the 3-hour Rock tour at $80/person.

Since 4 of us already took the cable car up to the Rock and saw the view and the apes, I am going to wait until we arrive at the port to see what taxi tours will be available and then the other 5 people can decide what they want to do.

Thanks to both of you for your suggestions/comments. :)

  7. Thank you JB.

Four of us visited Gibraltar in the past; it will be 1st visit for the other 5 people. On our last visit, four of us took the cable car up to the Rock and saw the view and the apes. The other 5 people said they don't really care to see cave/apes/tunnel. I did check the Rock tour, and the cost is $80/person for a 3 hour tour and their van can only take 8 people.

Maybe we will just stay around Main St. We will be there on a Sunday, so most of the shops will probably be closed.

  8. Thank you JB. :)

We visited Gibraltar in June 2010 (also a cruise stop). Back then, we took the taxi from port to Casemates Square. We then walked to the Cable car station and took the cable car up to the Rock. Afterward, we spent about 2 hours on Main St. I remember there was not much to see on Main St., and we ended up spending 2 hours at an internet café. Since this time we have 9 people, I am thinking of walking to the Casemates Square so the others know the route to walk back to the ship later (since we already visited, the two of us plan to go back to the ship around 1 p.m.; unless we find more places to explore).

Yesterday I found the map that I got from the Gibraltar tourist office, and on the map, it shows a lot of bus stops on Europa Road. We only stayed on Main Street last time, and wonder if there are many sites to see or things to do on Europa Road. Have you been on Europa Road before?

  9. Does anyone know how long it takes to walk to the town center from the Princess cruise terminal? Is it a easy walk? Anyone can give me the walking directions?

If taking a taxi, how long is the ride and the taxi fare? There are probably plenty of taxis at the cruise terminal, but will it be difficult to find a taxi (around 2 p.m.) from the town center back to the cruise terminal?

There will be 9 of us, and I am afraid it might be difficult finding several taxis to take us back; so walking would be our alternative.

Thank you in advance for any assistance/suggestions.:)

I think I found Madeira Happy Tours on Tripadvisor. I sent them a couple of emails before I booked with them and I was happy with the service and speed of their answers. Plus, we only paid at the end of the tour and no deposit.

I sent them an e-mail and they responded within 24 hours. Now they require a credit card to hold the booking. If I have a choice, I prefer not to give my credit card information. So I think I am going to use DanielMadeiraTaxi tour; they don't require credit card information. I can pay at the end of the tour.

We did a half day tour with Madeira Happy Tours, but it was a long half day. I can't remember the name of the guide, but he had lived in South Africa for years and so, had excellent English.

The reason we didn't do one of the full day tours is because my OH doesn't like mountain roads. I worked in Madeira many years ago and knew he would have a panic as the roads are very mountainous.

The whole island is extremely pretty, so whichever trip you choose I don't think you will be disappointed. I also recommended the tour company to my friend's parents and they went with them a year or so ago and were very pleased.

There is a thread about them somewhere on CC. They get good reviews both here and on Tripadvisor.

    Thank you for your information.

I see a lot of CC posts on DanielMadeira Taxi tour, but don't recall seeing posts on Madeira Happy Tour. I will do a search.
