  1. My experience with Superbowl on elegant night is that they did change elegant night to another night. I have heard that sometimes they don't, and it is up to the individual cruise director. I would think Carnival would prefer to change. I bet they sell more pictures to people in elegant clothes than in team colors. ;)

  2. I have done both, and agree with other posters that there are good and bad aspects of B2B and of changing ships.

We did a B2B on the Carnival Fascination. It went to Nassau both times, but the other port was different. So we just did something different when we got to Nassau the second time. (Of course that was the first and second times we went to Nassau. We might feel differently now.) We didn't feel rushed or stressed about getting to shows or events, because we knew we could get it the next time. We took the Behind the Fun tour at the end of the first cruise, so enjoyed knowing what went on (fresh knowledge) behind the scenes on the second cruise. We lucked out and had different comedians for the second cruise. We had Any Time Dining, but when we went back to the same wait staff the first night of the second cruise, I got hugs. We had the same cabin, so we didn't have to pack after the first cruise. There were a lot of B2B'ers, so we didn't even have to get off; customs came to us.

For Halloween last year, we went on the Elation out of New Orleans. When it returned, we spent the night in New Orleans then boarded the Conquest the next day for its last voyage that returned to New Orleans. It was great to go to different places and enjoy 2 such different ships. This was the first time my husband had been on anything bigger than a Fantasy class ship, and it was kind of like being with a new cruiser. (Lots of, "Ooh wow! Look at that!") Since the Elation had not undergone 2.0 upgrades and the Conquest had, the shows were completely different. We made sure to get a cabin on the same side, but since the ships were so different, sometimes we were disoriented. Go down to the promenade, no, go up...

The only problem I would have with getting on another ship on the same day is...what if the first one didn't make it back on time? I don't want to put in an insurance claim, I want to go on the second cruise!

  3. I was there several years ago at the end of January. I thought the water was a little to cold to stay in, but if I was a kid out playing, I'm sure it would have been fine. I see that you are from Ontario, so you probably won't find the water too cold.

The air temperature was near 80 (F) and was wonderful!

    Enjoy!

  4. Hoping NJ gets two feet of snow that day to show them what a dumb idea this was.

I hope not -- only because we're sailing out of Baltimore that day and want to see the Superbowl on the ship. I would hate for it to be on Saturday. (Monday wouldn't be so bad.)

But yes, it was a dumb idea.

  5. I sailed on the Conquest out of New Orleans last January, and also a 6 day just before she left New Orleans.

In January, we watched the Towel Animal Theater. In November, I could have it was in the FunTimes, because my husband asked what it was and I told him. But I still have those FunTimes and can't find the theater on them. But that was not a usual 7 day cruise.

I would think that if it played in January, it will still be there. Mostly kids in attendance.

  6. Definitely pick an itinerary that includes Glacier Bay. It was the absolute highlight of our Alaska cruise. If you click on the link in my signature, it will take you to the my photo review.

As others mentioned, Princess and Holland are the top 2 cruise lines in Alaska, with the largest number of ships and itineraries, many which will include Glacier Bay. And surprisingly they can be cheaper than Carnival (sailing on Holland was $700 cheaper than Carnival and for a much better itinerary which included Sitka and Glacier Bay, sailing on a Saturday).

I just read your review, and have to say it was one of the best reviews I've ever read. Very informative.

  7. My son was a month and a half away from turning 15 when we went on a cruise on the Paradise when it was still in Los Angeles. He had already topped 6 feet, and was mature for that age. This was in mid May when there weren't tons of kids on board. Just after embarkation, he went to the O2 Club and asked the director there about the possibility of moving up. He was allowed to.

I think sometimes it depends on the number of kids scheduled in each age group. After he got into the O2 Club, there were less than 20 kids. I don't know how many were in Circle C. Also, he had a 16 year old brother with him. Don't know if that made any difference.

    It wouldn't hurt to ask.

  8. On our last cruise, my dh turned gold during the cruise. Since we were on a cruise the week before and the records weren't updated from that cruise yet, he went on with red. We went to guest services and they checked it out, and issued him a gold one and gave him the pin right there.

  9. I was on the Conquest Nov 3 thru Nov 9. Here's what was on:

11-4 The Bourne Legacy 11 pm

11-5 The Lucky One 8 pm

    Playing for Keeps 10 pm

    11-6 Lincoln 6:30 pm

    11-7 Iron Man 2 8 pm

    Iron Man 3 10:30 pm

No movies on sail-away day or last sea day. Lots of sports!

They may not be the same, but will probably be about as new as these.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your cruise!
