  1. Would you mind saying why you didn’t like the Azura. We’ve booked our first ever P&O cruise on the Azura for Christmas so it would be helpful to know what to expect. Are you comparing it with other ships?

Really liked the Azura - can't think of any fault to pick at all and we are on her again next Aug for 2 weeks, can't wait. Actually have been on a few P&O ships and enjoyed them all. And for comparison we have cruised with P&O, Princess, Celebrity and Carnival. Favourite would be Princess tied with P&O, then Carnival and then Celebrity.

  2. Thanks so much for the patter scan, lots going on which makes me excited for the cruise, thanks again.

    1. There was an Escape room. Someone we met told us they had signed up for it on the first day, but I don't know how - I'm looking at the Patter from embarkation day and I don't see sign ups for it mentioned. Maybe during the 11:15am-3:30pm "Entertainment Discovery" in the Piazza? I don't know what that means because we weren't on the ship then.

    2. I think there was at least a drink special in the dining room, like one of the after dinner drinks was $3 or $4.

    3. I was on the May 13 cruise and I didn't realize we had a "dress to impress" night the night before LeHavre except I see the Patter says it was - and I don't think I noticed people dressed up that night. My patter doesn't have a dress code like it does for the formal nights, but that might be because my patter is the disembarking-in-LeHavre version that provides disembarkation info.

    4. You get the tickets the morning you arrive at the port, at the door of the dining room, and then wait in the dining room for your number to be called. The tickets are for the two tender ports and for the ports where the cruise line provided a free shuttle, but I don't know what the process is if the shuttle needs to be purchased (for LeHavre at least they said it needed to be purchased at the latest the night before arrival). If you're not taking a shuttle at the docked ports (for instance, Dublin) then you don't need to get a ticket to get off.

    5. I see Crab Shack in the Patter only on the day we were at Cobh/Cork.

    6. Hopefully the Patter from the first sea day is attached here.

  3. I never said it was a fair comparison which is why I named the ships rather than just said I'd sailed both lines. But that said that was still my experience of both cruise lines and whilst I do believe that the newer Celebrity ships would be a step up from infinity I am still hesitant to give them another try due to my experience with the cruise line. I think that is understandable, if they don't want people to make those sort of comparisons then they need to raise the bar on the Infinity.

Comparing the Infinity (launched in 2001) with the Royal (launched in 2013) is not really a fair comparison. A better "match" would be the Celebrity Reflection (2012). I think the Infinity was near the end of its class in terms of launch date and a much different ship from the company's newer ones ("Solstice" class). Service and entertainment might be apt areas of comparison between the Infinity and Royal, but not much else. The newer ships of both lines are pretty spectacular compared to their predecessors. We've sailed on both lines quite a bit, including the Royal P several times and the Celebrity Eclipse (2010) once. Personally, I preferred the Royal although the Eclipse did have a few advantages: some functional, some more ornamental. For example the Eclipse has a two-story-high Oceanview Cafe with floor to ceiling windows (we saw whales below while eating breakfast). But it doesn't have a 3-deck spectacular Piazza--the similar space on the Eclipse is mainly the Guest Services desk with a lot of empty (useless) floor space, maybe some chairs, but not inviting. Eclipse theater is horseshoe-shaped with balcony seating in addition to the main floor and, at the time, had Cirque de Soleil perfoming some nites, which was great to watch on eye-level from the balcony. Princess has better cabin layout better. etc.

  4. A friend just got this upsell from Princess. They are booked in a ME mini-suite Royal Princess Aug 5/18

CHOOSE FROM THE FOLLOWING SUITES (rates are in addition to fare already paid): Full Suites (Cat S3) size from: 440 sq ft $999 US per person

And no, they are not taking it! If it gets dropped they may consider it. They are Elite

Ooh this is my cruise, we are in a deluxe balcony - 3 of us but are UK and don't seem to hear of UK passengers being offered any upsells.

  5. I have only been on Infinity with Celebrity and Royal with Princess - Princess won hands down, the food choice on Celebrity was awful and the ship wasn't in the best shape, Princess would also win on entertainment. But everyone has different likes and dislikes.
