  1. Hi lais !

I have been on both ships (Veen and Westy) and for me I can assure you that the size of the vessel (# of decks, # of elevators, size of the publics/dining area, etc.) may influence your opinion about your next cruise ship choice.

I prefer the Westerdam but again it's my very personal choice.

Regarding the condition of ships, it is more a maintenance issue than a question of age. It's like an airplane. Rough & Tough thing…

    As a teacher, I prefer cruising without (or less) younger cruisers ( 0 - 30 y/o ).

  2. HAL does a King Neptune Ceremony, with certificate, when crossing the equator.

You get a certificate when crossing the International Dateline.

    I love these certificates.

I have framed and placed next to my university diplomas in my office !

  3. Hi !

Since the beginning off my cruiser carrer (!), I forgot/do not received some of the voyages pins.

On my last cruise, I correct the situation by asking the Cruise Director to receive those I dont have.

Plus : they give (to the winning team I know, but just ask) the pins after the Trivia session in the Crows Nest or the Piano Bar.

Dont be shy and collect all of them without any remorse..!

  4. Day 2 – 07/03/16; Quebec City, Quebec …

The city's famous landmarks include the Chateau Frontenac, a hotel which dominates the skyline, and La Citadelle, an intact fortress that forms the center piece of the ramparts surrounding the old city. The National Assembly of Quebec (provincial legislature), the Musee national des beaux-arts du Quebec (National Museum of Fine Arts of Quebec), and the Musee de la civilisation (Museum of Civilization) are found within or near Vieux Quebec…

Hello Copper and all of you fellow New England / Canada Cruisers,

Let me inform you of the opening of a new museum in Quebec City. He is fantastic !

Take the bus or taxi to get there. Three blocks from the Grande Allée. Not so far from Château Frontenac.

    Holacanada from Quebec City !

Had cruise twice from Boston < — > Quebec onboard the Veendam.

I agree that the Veendam needs some renovations. And I hate the close cut Aft with it's ugly «lazy river». Also from the time that I was there the Jumbotron doesn't work and always looping the same «Penguins from Antartica» movie..!

  5. Hi !

As a former certified guide on the St-Lawrence River (Catamaran Famille Dufour II / 250 PAX - Whale watching and Animation from Quebec city to Tadoussac-Saguenay fjord and back / Summer 2000… / Twelve hours a day (A ten hours tour) but a Terrific Experience !

More chances to see the whales near the Saguenay Fjord from mid of July to the end of August.

Actually, till mid july, they are coming from Dominican Republic, like Samana and probably swim back here right in front of Virginia or higher…

In summertime, we can observe about 3/4 Humpback wales, 1 Blue whales. 2 Fin whales, Long-finned pilot whale and a lots of (+ 30) white dolphins (do not remember exactly their names :) who are established in front of Tadoussac near «Le phare du Haut-Fond-Prince», enjoy and breach out !

  6. I thought the service on our HAL cruise was wonderful, and we became friendly with several of the staff. We are hoping we will see some or all of them when we take our Atlantic Coast cruise on the Veendam in April.

    Better about Guy's Burgers:

    Better about Dive In:

    Tied:

Both have great fries. Different styles but both are really good

But don't forget to try the fried thin shave onions rings they serve in Dive In !!! Delicious !

  9. HI !

About mussels and fries its a very very popular combination in Belgium !

They call it : Moules et Frites.

Dining with a couple of cans of beer as an accompaniment ..!

For residents of Belgium is also common to eat this dish as a North American that would take a hamburger with fries !!

  10. Hello all !

On the Veendam and on the Volendam, the «so call» Oasis was close and we can't access. Someone told me that area is now a resting place for the crew only…

I'd used it once back in 2011.

Fake grotto and green plants. Two hammocks and a round table. That's all.

    For the kids you know…
