  1. Poke ( po Kay) originally from Hawaii. Base of rice then fresh raw fish with other things. Mainland chefs then began to experiment with it and added salmon,  other grains, noodles, vegetables, seasonings. Loaded with good fats and healthy and served in bowls. At  port side salad bar today.

  2. Currently on Nautica and new things are coming. Rollout of plant based food offerings suitably labeled. Some corporate chefs on board as they incorporate the items into daily offerings. Don't know if they are in MDR menu but some are in Terrace. Also for first time the end of cruise survey will be on line. All sorts of instructions in Currents on how to do it and hands on tutorials are to be offered. Firefox,Chrome, Safari required-not compatible with Internet explorer or on generation 1or2 iPads.    Been on since June and it is wonderful being on board. Shawn Carter is CD. Crew and officers are amazing.

  3. We found the thing we liked most about Terrace on a very long cruise is the ability to get some things from one area and then another, and perhaps a third and have something done to it....stir fried, or thrown on a bed of pasta, or rice with veggies, and pineapple --whatever your imagination and inclination for that night.

and the Terrace crew also can offer some suggestions as well.  Or as one friend did, head straight for the desserts and coffee!!

  4. palakika-

you can totally do Key West DIY.  It is a lovely town and hopefully the danger of hurricanes will be passed by then (although that isn't always the case.)

one of the cool things to do for about 10 minutes is to find the cemetery and see the US flag pole area.  Buried there are the men from the USS Maine (Spanish American war) as well as reading a few of the gravestones.

Truman White House, Old Town, & Sloppy Joes must be walked into as it is an institution but just walk around...it is a cool place!  Be sure and wear your sunscreen!!!

  5. off subject--forgive me!

Do you veterans of O ccritic remember when we had this long list of places we'd like  O to travel to?

I remember Stan&Jim participated, PaulChili wanted to go to western Africa, and Don Horner had all sorts of exotic places he wanted to see and so Mr. DelRio had a contest for O cruisers to create an itinerary(s) for corporate to review.  I thought that was such a great idea and some of those itineraries were used by O!!!

  6. for those wondering what port O might replace Havana with:

i posted this on the "New" thread re: Cuban cruises but I've received an update just now from O via TA that says Havana is out for ATW20 and will be replaced with a sea day, then Santa Marta, Colombia

  7. just received forwarded note from TA  along with new ATW20 port:  Havana deleted, at sea that day,  2 days later Santa Marta, Colombia added.  Off to research S. Marta.

"Dear Valued Guests and Travel Advisors,

As you may be aware, the U.S. government enacted new restrictions on travel to Cuba and as a result, we must adjust our itineraries to remove all Cuban ports of call. Your revised portion of the itinerary is provided below and is also available on our website.  We look forward to welcoming you onboard.   Sincerely, Carlos Ortega Vice President, Passenger Services

    Oceania Cruises"

  8. "an administration official is encouraging ships to substitute Puerto Rico instead of Havana.   “It’s a U.S. territory, they need the support; or go and support one of our democratic allies in the region.” "

"Cruise lines, the biggest of them based in Miami, scrambled to deal with the news Tuesday and figure out what it means for their passengers. One thing seemed clear: there will be no more cruises to Cuba after Tuesday if they originate or make a port stop in the U.S. "  https://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/world/americas/cuba/article231158183.html#storylink=mainstage_card6

  9. paul--i'm looking for further clarification but here is what i found just now--

i'm sure everybody involved in US tourism to Cuba is examining the new policies....but AP seems to think cruising there is over for Americans

also appears to have some indication that if you've already paid for the cruise BEFORE this was announced you can still go.....(maybe Wednesday is the deadline) Don't know about deposits made rather than full payment.

      see what you think.....

  10. Mura-

I'm surprised that she didn't take you up on your offer.  Our attendant always declines our offer as well, but we insist that we are serious and that we want to do this for him/her so in that spirit the attendant accepts.  Perhaps it is because you're in a suite.

  11. and if you're so inclined, please tell your room attendant that you won't need her/his services on that turn around day.

Your cabin would be one less cabin they would have to care for on a very long and work intensive day for them.

Tell him/her you can make your bed and you have plenty of towels--they will so appreciate it.
