  1. If you look at the Night 2 ('Gala night') menu in the link provided, it does show broiled lobster tail available with no up charge.
  2. No, but the 'Orange Booklet' provides guidance for both 'Dressy' and 'Formal' attire, which makes it even more confusing.
  3. My point was that he will be in uniform... in response to your question in a previous post to the effect of 'will the captain be in jeans and a t-shirt if he comes to the MDR'? The obvious answer to your question is that he wouldn't be, so it's a rhetorical question. Which uniform he might be wearing is really beside the point..
  4. As I mentioned... not at dinner, regardless of what you may have heard from someone on the telephone. From HAL's current FAQ on their website: "Q: Can I wear shorts in the main dining room? A: Not at dinner. The dining room is considered a fine dining restaurant and shorts are not permitted." Yes, you can choose to wear whatever you want, including shorts in the MDR at dinner, but you will be in direct violation of their published dress code.... your choice.
  5. Hmmmm, I'm not seeing any of that for our March '23 sailing... maybe too soon?
  6. No, he will be in the uniform of the day..
  7. Sure, as long as you don't wear it in the MDR for dinner, especially on Gala night.
  8. Are you able to see the full set of actual menus for your specific sailing, or just sample menus for the various dining venues?
  9. Curious as to which ship/sailing you're on. We're on NS departing FLL 3/18, returning 3/25, so you're right after us. We have a similar itinerary, FLL>HMC>Sea>Port>Port>Sea>Port>FLL. From our experience, our 1st Gala night will be on the first sea day, which is how we're planning our other onboard activities.
  10. I'm beginning to think that some folks on this thread derive some strange sense of enjoyment of the drama involved with the ongoing 'Cabana Capers'. It's kind of entertaining to read really..
  11. For us, when it comes down to cruise cabin selection, there is no 'sense of adventure', and we choose not to roll the dice. The first thing we do when getting ready to book a cruise is to pull up the deck plans for the ship, select the best possible cabin available within our budget, and book that cabin. Simple as that. Done deal, and then we move on to other important items in planning the cruise. No additional pearl clutching or hand wringing waiting for the cabin assignment, an 'upsale' or unlikely 'upgrade'.
  12. Which could have been paid for up front. Why not just book (and pay for) the cabin you want? This eliminates the consternation and stress associated with booking a cabin you're not necessarily happy with, and then hoping/praying for and 'up sell'..
  13. I guess my only comment here would be that you were assigned exactly what you booked and paid for. My personal mantra in booking cabins on cruises is to book one that I would be completely happy with, assuming no changes, 'upgrades', etc. This way I'm never disappointed..
  14. Actually there is a dress code, and you mentioned the minimum for men. One correction though, it's a collared shirt, not just any shirt. For example, 'wife beaters' do not qualify.. 😉
  15. That's fine, but some music simply HAS to be loud... like rock 'n roll!
  16. HA! If the folks in the picture (yes I know who they really are), had white hair, it would look exactly like the Rock Room or BB King's on any given night on HAL Pinnacle ships!
  17. Wait, they're showing 'The Sound Of Music' onboard HAL ships now too?
  18. Actually when sailing on any ship, it's important to have a cabin far away from ANY source of noise, whether it be the music venues, Lido deck dining/pool areas, etc., etc. Which is why we always book a cabin on a deck 'sandwiched' between passenger decks above and below ours.. nice and quiet during sleep time 🙂 Curious as to which cabin you had on Rotterdam..
  19. Not quite sure where you're seeing that, but I just did a 'mock' booking for the cruise I'm currently booked on, and the HIA package offered makes no mention of OBC or gratuities. HAL does tweak the HIA package from time to time, with regard to what's included and what's not at any given time. It's just a matter of selecting a particular cruise that includes HIA, and whatever is included in that version of it for that sailing is what you will get.
  20. While I'm all for folks dressing how they want, after all it's THEIR vacation, right? But this report just makes me a little sad..
  21. You see, bigger is not ALWAYS better.. 😁
