  1. id independence of the seas (concierge)ryno strapp--(israel sanchez as of 8/25/12)

have just noticed your recent update about israel joining independence on 8/25/12. Has he been transferred over from voyager as permanent replacement for ken boodoo?

    Big, big, big grins!

  2. Wolf..........a belated Happy Birthday.

What has happened to Thore Thorolvsen? I know that he is on holiday and finished his turn on the Oasis, but do you have any clue as to what his next ship might be.......will he head off to oversee on of the Sunshine Class ships being constructed?

    Rick

Not Wolf, but last week on the Oasis we were told he was transferred to Freedom. Not sure how happy he will be about that, imho.....

  3. We decided to go for the upgrade.

The price of the Crown Loft Suites has dropped to a point for our August Eastern Caribbean Cruise on Oasis that we have decided to go for it.

My question is which cabin should we pick??

    Any help appreciated.

I have looked closely at available pictures online, and studied the deck plan.

I think we have ruled out the aft facing rooms, as we want more privacy and a view of the ocean.

Having said that would Port or Starboard be better?

Closer to the front? Or closer to the back?

The rooms look all the same size.

    But balconys/views might be better?

It looks like the railings curve cutting off a bit of the ones on either end?

    Would a middle be best?

Also 1704 and 1754 might have slightly larger balconys from the deck plan?

And does 1702 have an extra little bit of cabin?

Would love to hear from anyone with first hand information.

    At this point available cabins are: 1752, 1750, 1746, 1706, 1708, 1710, 1712.

    Help us pick one!

1702 does have an extra little bit of cabin because it has small foyer when you enter then have to turn left into the main cabin. I liked this layout better but beware, the balcony is tiny and so crowded with the 2 lounges. We hardly used it since not very comfortable, imho. My sisters 1754 had a much bigger balcony but still like the other suites balconies better;)

Amazing cabin though and you should enjoy.

  4. For his US License (I am a US Licensed Master myself) Capt. Wright will have to act as a captain for 90 days out of every 5 years and also 30 days in the year proceeding his license renewal also every 5 years. The ship he serves on must be over 1600 gross registered tons or 3000 international tonnage convention tons. All of the RCI ships are well over this tonnage requirement. His time from the Oasis would be more than enough to cover the 90 day / 5 year requirement but he will need the 30 days before the renewal year. Either way, I doubt that he is going back to sea for the license renewal as he has for the last few years with Oasis and Freedom. Once you have been a captain on the seas, it is very difficult to work ashore. Believe me, I know this to be the truth! I hope that this information helps and I am sure that his Norwegian and Bahamian licenses have very similar requirements with his US license. (I am sure that he holds all three)

Thank you so much for the explanation. Appreciate you taking the time to enlighten us.

  5. So, I'm not sure how a master is assigned a ship. There are rumors of some more captains to be moved to different ships this year, but then again, until he/she shows up on a new ship, we will never know for sure.

    Rick

I would definitely bet money on that, just saying;)

  6. Thanks,It is nice to hear that people loved this cabin. And I loved your description of the balcony .I can really see what you are talking about in the photo that pkexton had posted.:) It is cave like and does look very private. Really looking forward to sailing on her:).And if you ever get the chance to sail around Australia you would love it.

You're welcome! Spent almost a month touring around Australia and New Zealand in the late 80's so would love to return and cruise around it this time. Have a wonderful cruise, Voyager is a special lady....

  7. 1324 was our favorite GS on the Voyager. There is no noise and the location can not be better. You have to remember that on the Voyager the balcony is cave-like so there is a wall dividing it into sections but that does not diminish your view. Takes a little while to remember when all the ships had these 'caves' and not the openess of the glass balconies of newer ships. The width of the balcony is slightly less than newer ship's GS but it is so private and peaceful in your balcony you won't mind. Really going to miss the Voyager since won't be going to Asia or Austrailia anytime soon. Enjoy!

  8. Ricardo is leaving Oasis after next weeks sailing to switch over to Mariner or Navigator...forget which one...he is being replaced by a women I don't know. Allan is the current concierge with him and will be staying.... until he goes out on break and Natalia will take his place.

    Hope it's Navigator, just saying...

  9. Just found this thread. Thank you ever so much for keeping it up-to-date!! Great job!

Hi Marianne! Hope you are doing well. It's one of the "Twins". I can not for the life of me find y'all's business card from the Liberty for the signs, etc... Could you please email it to me ? My email is - luvrccl at hot mail dot com

Thanks so much, I really do appreciate it. Would like to know where in the world y'all are going next, too. Hope we cross paths again soon. ttyl

  10. Capt Frank is finishing up his last rotation on Voyager and when he returns to work he's going to Monarch

this thread is going to be wrong for so many ships. What I got so far is

    1) a Legend capt (Knutsen?) coming to Voyager.

    2) Capt Frank doing 1 more contract on VY then going to MN

    3) Capt Bang starting on LB 12-10

    4) Capt Charles goes to VY (12-18?) and finally,

    5) don't know who Capt Frank is replacing on MN (Nordmo?) and where the displaced MN captain is going.

Just off the Voyager today and we were told Capt Frank is NOT going to the Monarch, for what it's worth. Also, makes sense the Legend Capt would be coming to Voyager to take her back to China. Suppose to be like a new ship when it gets there and crew being switched out weekly from Legend (waiters, assistant waiters, room stewards, etc) quite obvious, imho.

  11. What are you doing in Seville? We're there the same day - you're there from 8 to 5 - I don't get there until 11. It's a holiday that day (11/1 All Saints Day) and some venues will be closed and others will be mobbed.

We are taking a tour with Spain Day tours from Cadiz. They assured our tour leader that the main sites will be open as well as some local shops/restaurants, we shall see:confused:. Here's a short description of some of the tour. We were going to cancel after finding out it was a holiday but after the above info we decided to continue on with the plan, lol.

We will take you on a unique tour featuring Seville’s magnificent 15th century Gothic cathedral and its famous bell tower La Giralda, a symbol of the city. Across the square is the entrance to the impressive Real Alcazar palace completed after the Christian re-conquest in typical Múdejar style. With a maze of rooms, exquisitely decorated patios and exotic gardens, it is one of the oldest royal residences in Europe still in use today.

The adjacent 16th century Renaissance building of the Archivo de Indias houses a treasure of information on the discovery of the New World by Christopher Columbus. It has a tremendous monumental and artistic value and it is listed as a World Heritage Site by Unesco.

You will have some free time to do exploration on your own, take lunch in one of the local restaurants (extra), or do some shopping. In the afternoon, there will be a transfer back to the Cádiz port which will safely bring you back to the ship in time for departure.

Others have posted that Cadiz has a huge celebration and lots of parades and festivities. Wouldn't it be something if we ran into each other in Spain, lol. Will keep an eye out for you.

  12. Lisa,

As you know, he won't be on the crossing next month. Is that why you and Marcia decided not to take VY from Europe? You know there's a great group on my cruise!! We'll miss you.

Hi Beth, I think the main reason we aren't on the Voyager next month is because we are still on the Liberty TA, lol. New ports so we couldn't pass it up. We will be on the Voyager TA in the spring before it heads to the far east. I know you will have a wonderful time on the fall TA and hope we sail together again soon. :)

    Marcia

ps: Thanks TJ for the official work on Capt Bang;)

  13. Is there a way to find out who the captain will be besides the adding of 10 weeks to start date? We know the lines get blurred with the holidays and TA's at times so wonder where we can get a definite response???? Especially interested in knowing when

Captain Bang is on Voyager. Dates he will be on in December and will he come back early for TA to BCN or meet ship there? Inquiring minds would like to know. Would really like to sail with him on at least 1 of the 3 cruises we have booked from New Orleans, lol. Thanks in advance for any info.
