  1. Ooh not me, I think they are nice but not the best suites on the ship, I am usually quite comfortable in a regular balcony. I enjoy being out and about around the ship, and would rather book 2 cruises in a balcony than one in a big suite, but thought it might effect others.

I doubt it will be very loud from inside your suite. Might get a cool Doppler effect as they zoom by, though.

Let me know if you'll be on the May 24, 2017 cruise, I'll try to keep it down.

  2. Err surely Upper tier members, as well as first time cruisers are the resources that provide the payments for all provisions within a cruise, be that food, drink, crew or even the ship itself. I would hate to be considered as a strain on something that would not exist if as cruisers we decided not to support a cruise line.

....................... I am not saying that upper tier members don't deserve the recognition, but it's definitely a strain on the resources at times!
  3. Many shops ( M&S etc ) do display the price in pounds and Euros on the price tag, but you are correct very few happily take Euros.

I always rely on using my bank card to pay for items in countries where I do not want to have left over money. However sometimes it is wise to have local money for taxis, and small purchases like coffee. In which case I use a local ATM to get the small amount needed.

Whereabouts in the UK are you travelling to? I live here and have never seen a shop displaying prices in Euros (apart from maybe the odd tourist place in London).

We have a retail business in a tourist town and certainly don't accept Euros or know anyone else who does.

OP you are correct, you need pounds in the UK:) If anyone will take Euros they will probably give you a rubbish exchange rate.

  4. You are right the Oasis TA embarkation was chaos, but that was more to do with the port not opening the check in hall, therefore everyone was outside without any organisation or queue system.

Recent embarkations at Southampton for The Ovation sailings have gone smoothly. One of the reasons for that is the issuing of embarkation times, if people stick with their allocated slot it spreads the load on the check in procedure, unfortunately many ignore their slots and do arrive early.

As some have stated there is little checking of arrival times, and that procedure only kicks in when there is a build up of people, if the procedure is running smoothly then they just move people along and get them on ship asap.

You can go at any time but just be prepared for chaos - look for threads from the westbound Oasis TA 2014 I think.
  5. I think the 1pm appointments are being offered as they may still be finalising preparations for first paying guests, and they want to ensure the ship is ready.

Also the invited guests on the previous 2 day sailing ( lucky us ) will have been partying hard the night before, and are therefore not early morning people.

I am sure that others who are not staying on for the 22nd sailing will be asked to leave the ship at the usual by 9.30 time, but there are bound to be some not wanting to rush.

I also think they will want to get new guests on board asap so that money can be spent across the bars, so I am sure the ship will open up earlier, but the 1pm is stated so anyone arriving earlier cannot complain if boarding is delayed.

I would risk arriving a little early, but understand that facilities in Southampton are not great although there is a large waiting area, if the port has opened the check-in hall, see you on the ship.

  6. John and his wife Katrina work very hard to ensure people have a great time, they are highly visual around the ship. Yes their style is unique and for some Europeans a little " All American, smiley smiley ". But once you understand that this is their way and it is well intended, it is easy to appreciate the effort they put into every task they undertake. We would be happy to have them on any ship we might sail on.

  7. Having just returned from 15 nights on The Ovation I wonder if I missed a big announcement, but cannot see it listed on these threads.

As I catch up on my reading of recent editions of Travel Weekly I read that Michael Bayley has been quoted as saying that "plans are being drawn up for a new Class of Ship following the Groundbreaking Quantum Class"

I am surprised that such a statement has not been met with the usual name suggestions or suggestions for new on board experiences and features.

Or did I miss the excitement.

  8. Do not Pass go, do not collect 200 Cruise Points, go straight to post 1493

So as we approach 1500  let me see if I am up to speed.

There has been NO breaking news.

Oasis and Quantum class now have different colored cards just to send C&A and CC members into ANOTHER frenzy of panic and speculation.

Concierge Lounge alive and well EXCEPT on ships that have SUITE Lounge and DIAMOND Lounge.

No Diamonds have been harmed in the process.

    Am I good?

  9. I think you are probably correct, but as we rarely book suites, and have not stayed in one since they introduced the new card colours ( in the last 2 weeks ) I am not sure what they will do. Time will tell, hope you are both keeping well, we need to sail on the same ship again soon, are you doing Harmony ? :D

I would assume, as it is being done now and in the past, that the higher benefit color level would prevail. Your card would be the relevant suite color with Pinnacle printed on the bottom.

But you already knew that, didn't you? :)

  10. Ohh I have stopped having theories or opinions, as I always get shot down in flames by others that consider theirs to have more validity than mine ::D eek:

We will soon find out what color that senecio gets because it is certainly happening onboard right now. Probably suite color.

Do you have another reason besides different perks for separating suites and pinnacle sea pass colors? I'd love to hear your theory

  11. Sauerkraut is fermented cabbage, so yes different in taste, but not source. No grief from this side.
