No problem driving around Honolulu.  Traffic not too bad.  Easy to get wherever you want.  I would definately get over to Pearl Harbour and the Arizona memorial.

it wasn't easy 2 weeks ago....traffic is very heavy

We are on the Royal Princess for a January cruise to Hawai'i and it will overnight in Honolulu. I am considering renting a car for the day. Does anyone know how difficult it is to get around in the area? Is traffic OK or bad, etc.

challenging.   we wanted to get to Walmart really quick one night...there was a parade lol    it's challenging and a GPS is necessary...

one of the guides told us there is 1 million people along with the ones who live in the city. I believe it lol

So you arranged to get a Turo car after the ship docked in Kahului?

we arranged it ahead of time....not after docking no.  we had Turo on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island.....

Looking for feedback on “ first timers “ to Hawaii! getting overwhelmed with all the tours offered on NCL’s website. We like to wing it when we arrive at a port of call , is this even a option on this cruise? Thank you🥴

also, if you do wing any of this....the GyPSy app  is indispensible!!!

"Winging it" is a very bad idea on Kauai, on Maui and in Hilo.

You can wing it on Oahu and in Kona.

disagree.  we winged it in Maui with a Turo car.   did 1/2 way to Hana ourselves.  also went to the Maui Gold Plantation tour. the next day

we did a Turo car. he met us at the airport.   We drove to our accomodations.   We did the Hawaii Volcanoes Nationsl Park on our own.   Drove 1/2 way to Hana on our own.   we DiD do the Tour of Kauia and Luau which was 11 hours.  we were exhausted.   to do it over?  we would have dont the drive to Waimea canyon ourselves.  that's a long long time on a bus.    The Kalamaku Luau was good.  free Mai ti's 🙂     we also did Pearl Harbor on our own...drove Turo the whole trip other than the 2 excursions.  we got the Passport and it was worth it!   The Missouri is included as is a couple of museums.

Was on the Joy for the last trip to Bermuda this season. It was Okay.  The ship was clean., other travelers were great and friendly. Our room steward was lovely.

    What stunk:
entertainment was extremely lacking!  The ticketing system sucks.  We saw the same comedian 3x in 5 days because basically not much else on board to watch.  Footloose was cancelled with no reason given.  The new Elements show was Ok. Not our thing.

Guest services was kind of ridiculous, couldn't resolve an issue.  The cruise director was in hiding :).  Never saw her do anything. Casino slots were frustrating more than normal.

Food was boring!  Must do speciality dining.

    Spa was nice but overpriced!

    The good:
    Cagneys was amazing.
The pool decks  were really nice, loved Spice H2O to chill and beautiful aft view.  Watching USA I n the World Cup on the pool deck was just exciting -- alot of energy.

go-karts - OK, just dont go at night if chilly, as mask will fog up and can't see anything. 7D movie didnt work right, but clever. Alot of VR activities for extra $

Not sure we would travel it again. We have had better experiences on other ships & cruise lines.

so, it HAS the spa?  is there a spa pass?

  8. I have looked on NCL's website, and of course, can't figure out how to cancel someone on our reservation. I wish they would revamp their website. I can't ever find anything.  I will call today probably but till then....one of our people on the cruise can't go.  Does he have to be sick?  or can they just decide not to go?   I searched HERE on the boards, and still couldn't find an answer.  also looked on my reservation.

  9. when I booked originally, I did the excursion, and didn't want the Free at Sea unlimited bar....is it too late to change my mind?

I will be calling tomorrow, but was just wondering if anyone had ever changed their minds on this

  11. On the Bliss in May, i wish I would have rented a scooter...have an extremely bad knee, and that ahip is HUGE and i had to walk far.

fast forward to November....my next cruise to Hawaii....i keep hearing I'll be off the ship more than on.  should i get one this time?  we only have 3 in our cabin, would the thing even fit?  I'll probably rent one but I'm just undecided😝
