  1. I am not a sun person. The infinity balconies fascinate me and I am excited to try it. However, I wonder how successful this concept will be. I think many people will miss not being out in the open. The way these cabins are designed... I think you will feel more indoors than outdoors. Now for someone like me ... who burns even when sitting in the shade on a ship... I believe it will allow me to enjoy the space more than I have on other cruises. But people who usually catch some sun while laying out on the balcony may find it more like sitting by an open window. It will be interesting to see how people feel once they have experienced it. Actually reminds me of Adventure of the Seas.. an older ship where the balcony cabins really are more of a veranda nestled inside the ships structure. I loved that personally.

  2. This might be one ship where I would like to do a pub crawl... just to see the different type of cabins. Most ships don't seem to have as much variety as this ship. At least that is my impression. I wonder if the lifeboats cause any obstruction. We are on deck 6. We have been in a 2D cabin on Silhouette and frankly it was not an issue.... but then again we had a very good deal on the price of that particular cruise. I hope that we will get some more updates. I wish the marketing team was putting out weekly... tiny updates ... just to keep things interesting.

  3. It looks from the rendering that the round openings are actually for veranda cabins 1A. If you look at deck plans and photos of the ship you will notice that the number of 1A cabins aft line up with the images showing a round opening. It appears that these are more traditional veranda cabins... not to be confused with infinite veranda cabins which have the window incorporated with the balcony railing... if you follow. It will be difficult to look to port without standing at the railing. As a separate note, I would have concerns with the S3 suites which are where the Magic Carpet runs. It appears to me that these cabins on deck 6 might have something of an obstructed view when the MC is placed on Deck 5. The roof supporting structure looks rather massive. It will be interesting to see. Also heaven for bid you are changing clothes while they are repositioning the MC... I assume no one is on it.. but who knows :)

  4. The shower in Allure doe not have a grab bar exactly, but it does have a vertical pipe as part of the shower fixture... which provides some support... be careful if grabbing the horizontal controls ... they can get hot. I the corner of the shower is another pipe like structure that you can rest you foot on. I assume it is there if you are trying to shave your legs. You might google images for Allure of the Seas bathroom... that will give you a good idea on what to expect. As a separate note, I had the same thing happen to me while in Amsterdam. They put me in a hard cast... which really complicated my life... heavy, hot and made showering very challenging... and dont get me started on the cobblestone streets... You should have a good time. One suggestion... if there is anyway to get a cabin near the rear elevators... that will help shorten your daily commute to dinner, the Schooner bar and the entrances to central park and Boardwalk... and even a straight shot down to Promenade

  5. I have an idea... if you google 'unfinished church st Georges Bermuda" you can see a map of the location. You can then see street view by dragging the little yellow stick figure onto the map. It will give you a good idea of what the roads look like. Now as I recall it is up a fairly steep hill, which is not clear on the map. You might try that island tour that Scooter girl 58 suggested... because I think it will be tricky taking the scooter there from the port. Steep and very narrow roads... more traffic than the map shows. So getting a ride there would be probably the best idea. I haven't been to Bermuda in over 10 years, but I recall challenges getting into shops in Hamilton. But using the street view... looks like things have improved... but a few shops look difficult to enter. I think Scooter girl had a great idea.

  6. I had planned on waiting before booking the Edge. Prices tend to come down once the newness wears off. But my husband talked me into booking the Dec 16 '18 cruise. Twice what I am normally willing to pay. But he does not get excited that often and he really wanted to see this ship and do a cruise around the holidays... they decorate so nicely. So we will see if the ship is worth the extra $

  7. We have never had a beverage package before... but for the next cruise..we got the classic package as one of the perks. Usually I am a regular coffee, iced tea and cocktail at CaptainsClub cocktail party. my question is... can you get frozen cocktails like margaritas or pina colada ... or is this a premium upgrade?

  8. Also expect thousands of diamond and above and hundreds of pinnacles. if you are diamond or above and like the lounge it will be very crowded. Even a coffee might be hard to get in the morning.

I am hoping that with the president on board, they will make another location essentially a diamond lounge for the duration of the cruise. How embarrassing would that be to have people turned away from the longe while he is on board. Celebrity has been using their sky lounge which is probably 3 or 4 times the size of the deck 11 diamond lounge. I can not even imagine how small the deck 4 lounge must be.

  9. We started sailing Celebrity Equinox, Silhouette ... this past year. Did it because of the long southern carribean itinerary. But I have to say... they allow Diamond members to have their Elite benefits. They have a cocktail hour in their sky lounge... which is huge... holds everyone comfortably and has fabulous view... reminds me of the Viking Lounge on the smaller Royal ships. Now Celebrity is owned by Royal... so they may follow suite... but if Royal doesn't have a solution for Diamond... we might just switch to Celebrity. Loved getting to know other cruisers... and frankly learning more about other ships and upcoming cruises. It benefits the company... and the cost is minimal in terms of real costs. If they make this change and the internet change... there is no real need for my loyalty. I had been afraid of change... but loved the Celebrity experience... and with this chipping away... I am thinking about trying MSC Seaside... why not...

  10. Deck - 6

    Cabin # - 6207

    Class – 2C

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Bed near?(balcony or bath) – bath

Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – Quiet. Cabin is over Sushi on 5, feared noise early in the morning, but we never hear a thing. Would take this cabin again

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – 2D is the class for obstructed view. I would estimate that the top of any lifeboat comes up about 2 ft or so from the floor.... so you can easily see over it. The davit... which holds the life boat does stick up a bit. Looking down, because you are part of the hump, you can see the promenade area of Deck 5.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - larger cabin... first cabin on hump

Was wind a problem? I did not notice wind at all. Thought it might be a problem because the way the cabin faces makes it more likely to catch the wind. It was not an issue for us

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? No

Any specific problems with this cabin?

Any other comments? We booked this cabin about 6 weeks prior to sailing. It was so much cheaper than other cabins we decided to give it a try. Our logic was that if it worked out, we knew that we could save again on future cabins. We have been on enough cruises that, not being able to look down to the water next to the ship... was not an issue. It was actually interesting being able to peek inside the lifeboats to see how they were set up. I am a more of a glass half full person any way. Could not edit the above post to include photos... so trying by repeating the post pix.sfly.com/NCChCVMi

  12. We were in 6207 on Silhouette last fall. It was over the sushi on 5 restaurant. I worried more about noise than view. But it was quiet. Frankly I did not find the view problematic at all. The top of the life boat is about 2ft above the floor of the balcony... you can easily look over the life boat. Now the davit... which holds the lifeboat in place might be near your cabin .... so that might impact the view some. To be honest... I dont need a perfect view... just dont want to have to stand on something to see the ocean... and it was not bad at all. Now I actually liked being able to see into the lifeboat... it was kind of interesting. Personally I would prefer something more midship.... but beyond that... other ships have truly obstructed views... this is more of a distraction than an obstruction.... but if the fair is good... worth it

  13. My husband has limited mobility due to torn quad muscle that never recovered properly from surgery. On the Celebrity Solstice class ships we have booked cabins near the rear elevator... which lines up with dining room. and main part of the ship... making it a bit easier. Believe it or not... the Oasis class ... which is huge... I found that again a cabin near the aft elevators was great... dining room, diamond lounge, bars generally line up. Also easy access to Boardwalk and Central Park. It is more midship elevator than some... There are a signifiant number of cabins further aft than the elevator. Now going to the theater on either type ship... is a distance... but if you can focus on the key activities... that aft elevator location was best for us. Also, we did not go to all shows

Having no midship elevators is a big drawback

  14. I like to book cabins near the elevators. My husband has mobility issues, so I try to help keep walking to a minimum. Frankly I think this is an excellent location. you are several decks from the pool so that will not be an issue at all. You are near the card room... which is as quiet as it gets. I think you did great. our last cruise was on Silhouette and we were in 6207... D2... obstructed view.. right above sushi on 5... I feared noise from the restaurant... It was quiet and the view was not bad at all. I actually liked being able to look down into the lifeboats and over to the bridge... was fun seeing out arrival back in port at the end of the cruise. Your cabin is in a great location... and beyond that they all look alike.

  15. Anyone who witnessed the passenger going overboard, might want to contact the cruise line. News reports say the woman was sitting on the rail trying for a selfie. If she did voluntarily go over the side and climb outside the ship from deck 16 to 15... she is clearly at fault. My concern is that friends and family are trying to rewrite history to imply that NCL is somehow at fault. So if the facts are different, important to get the correct info to those in authority. I was on Oasis when a passenger jumped off the ship and onto the lifeboat davit and ultimately fell into the water, never to be seen again. The odd thing was that his spouse video taped the whole encounter... from the time security arrived at their cabin, after reports of a fight and through the victim running out of the cabin towards the balcony. Who starts a video BEFORE anything happens.

  16. While researching for the weeks to stay away from for the Encore sailings in early 2020 this is what I found. Some of these are not set in the calendar for every school but a good reference.

NYC public schools winter recess February 17-21, 2020

Most colleges website spring break March 8-14, 2020

Passover 04/8-16, 2020 and Easter 04/12, 2020 overlap so I would stay away from at least 04/06 thru 04/17 to be on the safe side.

    Happy and peaceful planning!

I found this site, which I used to try to figure out the best time to go on a cruise with minimal college break folks. Now I wish I had one for high school and grammar schools. What I did was take an hour and count how many schools were off by week and then plan around it. Also, avoid shorter cruise lengths. College kids are trying to get the biggest bang for limited funds, so 3-4 day cruises likely to be the most problematic... best to go for 7 day or longer. We are going on a 14 day April 1... by then few colleges on break and few children or college kids likely to go on a long cruise like this. If you are stressed out imagine the crew. I can understand how they would be on their last nerve... and the season is not over for them... you can go home... they have to stay, smile and hope they actually do get gratuity.

  17. As a 29 year old party girl I would definitely say they overwhelmed the ship. They were university of Florida students. Most of them were wearing Greek letters. Individually many of them seemed like decent kids but they OVERWHELMED everything. I’ve been on the Dawn out of NOLA and a 6 day on the escape and it was a very different vibe. Extremely hard to get drinks at almost ANY bar. I was in a studio so I didn’t hear them in the halls. They were almost all 4 to a room. I’m curious what the capacity was. This has lead me to decide to cancel a future cruise and stick to land based vacations. I wouldn’t have minded some spring breakers but the sheer numbers of them was insane.

I am on a cruise April 1. Before selecting a cruise I did a search and spent an hour counting how many schools had spring break by week. Actually this year April is a slower month. Also I picked a longer cruise. Is this sailing a 7 day or one of the shorter cruises? Someone once told me that 7 day sailing don't tend to have as many kids... a money thing.... I wish I could recall the site I used to determine spring break schedule...but before giving up on cruises...consider longer ones and look for who is on break. Now I have not found one covering high schools and grammar schools... my next challenge
