  1. I am not a PEI expert but this is a scenic route. North Rustico is a pretty fishing port and Victoria by the sea is full of shops and restaurants.

At Borden Carleton you can see the Confederation Bridge which crosses to New Brunswick.

Stanley Bridge is a fishing spot and there is a nice restaurant there.

There are a couple decent restaurants in North Rustico. One does lobster with all you can eat mussels.

Near Brackley (great beach) is an interesting shop/restuarant called the Dunes.

New Glasgow is up on a hill with a lovely view (and a tourist shop/restaurant PEI Preserve Co..)

  2. I agree, Halifax is great for walking around on your own. Sydney is not.

For Charlottetown you should consider renting a car to drive to Cavendish, Green Gables and the scenic drive along the shore in the National Park.

  3. Choose your itinerary for the ports and the time spent in port. Prices are a good indication of when is the best time to go. Spring will be cool but much quieter. October is the peak time and the up to five ships in port (Halifax) in one day shows that. Mid summer is likely best if you don't care about the fall colours and the crowds, with June and September next.

  4. I hope things settle down in Turkey and more ships go there again. Our first ever cruise (Azamara) included five ports in Turkey: the usual overnight in Istanbul, a long day in Kusadasi (Ephesus), and then Bodrum, Fethiye and Antalya. All three were wonderful. Warm weather in November, ancient and medieval historical sites and great waterfronts with gulets to rent.

  5. My husband kayaked in Antarctica on another ship. They only went out on calm waters. It looked to be a magical experience. The company (G Adventures) said you should be experience but my husband found several had none at all. They were double kayaks and they had to juggle groups around a but.

You can get much more Antarctica information here: https://www.tripadvisor.ca/ShowForum-g1-i12337-Antarctic_Adventures.html

Look at the Top Questions on the right of the page (web browser needed.)

  6. One thing people often fail to do is check the dates ships will be in a particular port in terms of whether that is a holiday or a day that most museums are closed.

Some ships also have much shorter port times than others.

From what I have seen you get what you pay for in terms of port dates and times.

  7. I think a private operator could take you to the Fortress but they could not give you a tour there. The Fortress have their own tours in the shoulder season and they put on special tours for cruise ships (ships' tours) and in summer there is no need of a tour. If you want to go in summer and do not want to rent a car you could investigate a taxi and there may be some at the dock.
